Andrey Sharonov Leads EPT 13 Barcelona Main Event After Day 1b; Attendance Record Shattered

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Andrey Sharonov

Sun, sea, sand - and lots of poker! Barcelona delivered once again, as the EPT-attendance record from last year's stop was shattered. On Day 1b, 1,291 players put €5,300 on the line to take a shot at the biggest EPT Main Event in history. Combined with Day 1a's total of 468 players, the field already consists unofficially of 1,759 players. With late registration open until the start of Day 2, the new attendance record is expected to be pushed even higher.

Today saw eight levels of 75-minute play and at the end of the day, it was Andrey Sharonov from Russia finishing atop the leaderboard. Sharonov built his starting stack of 30,000 to a whopping 278,600, claiming the overall chiplead for both Day 1a and 1b in the process. Closely following him are, among others, Marco Caza (262,000), Mikhail Molchanov (210,300), Quentin Roussey (170,000), Alin Grasu (190,000) and Miroslav Forman (171,000).

While most players were still trickling in at the start of the day, Vanessa Selbst was already on her way out. The Team PokerStars Pro shoved her king-high into Gaelle Baumann's set of aces, ending her Main Event run within the first hour. Day 1b also didn't favor Daniel Negreanu, Antoine Saout, Johnny Lodden, Sofia Lövgren, Robin Ylitalo, Andre Akkari, Jason Wheeler, Naoya Kihara, and Ismael Bojang, as they all headed to the rail.

A lot of notable players are still in contention, including William Kassouf (79,500), Kitty Kuo (75,200), Janne "Savjz" Mikkonen (73,300), Team PokerStars Pro's George Danzer (71,000), Felipe Ramos (70,700), Jake Cody (62,000) and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (34,100), Gaelle Baumann (63,300), Kristen Bicknell (57,300), Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo (55,600), Cate Hall (35,100), Jennifer Shahade (33,600), Viktor Blom (23,300), Xuan Liu (20,000), and Dzmitry Urbanovich (16,000).

Day 2 gets underway on Wednesday at 12 p.m. local time . The PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to bring you all the action until our champion is crowned on Sunday.

Quentin Roussey Up Over 200,000

Nível 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Quentin Roussey
Quentin Roussey

A player in middle position opened to 1,400 and Quentin Roussey called from the next position.

Roussey's stack has been soaring over the past few levels, and his relentless aggression has seen his stack move over the 200,000 mark with just under two levels in the day left.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and his opponent checked to him, and Roussey bet 2,100. His opponent called.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and his opponent again check-called a bet from Roussey, this time for 3,900.

The river was the {k-Spades} and both players checked.

His opponent was apprehensive to show his cards, and in fact Roussey beat him to showdown with {a-Spades}{j-Spades} for a pair of jacks. Eventually his opponent did flash {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for busted straight and flush draws, as his cards headed to the muck, and the pot headed to Roussey.

A player opened to 700 from middle position and Arsh Grover three-bet from the next position to 2,200. It folded to Kiryl Radzivonau who four-bet to 6,500.

The initial raiser folded, and Grover then five-bet to 14,200. The action was back on Radzivonau who thought before stacking up his chips and six-betting all in for around 25,000. Grover called instantly and tabled {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} while his Belarussian opponent was behind and dominated with {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and Radzivonau won't be improving on his 6th place in 2014, as he headed to the exit.

Gaelle Baumann vs Vanessa Selbst

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

"You have to report this hand!" says Shyam Srinivasan, gesturing towards Gaelle Baumann's stack which had doubled from her starting stack of 30,000.

According to the table, Baumann had raised to 300 from early position, and Vanessa Selbst three-bet to 1,000 from the small blind. The big blind called before Baumann four-bet to 3,700. Selbst called and the big blind got out of the way.

The flop was {j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} and Selbst checked to Baumann who bet 2,700. Selbst then check-raised her opponent to 7,200 and Baumann called.

The turn was the {a-Spades} and Selbst checked. Baumann bet 6,500 and Selbst went into the tank. After roughly four minutes of tanking, Selbst announced all in and Baumann snap called.

Selbst turned over {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for king-high with a gutshot, but was crushed by Baumann who had turned top set with pocket aces. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Selbst was eliminated.
