Uri Reichenstein Leads Final Seven After Day 5 of the 2016 EPT Barcelona Main Event

Nível 31 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante
Uri Reichenstein

The penultimate day of the PokerStars.es EPT Season 13 Barcelona €5,300 Main Event saw 24 hopefuls return to the tables of the Casino Barcelona, all guaranteed at least €33,300 for their efforts. Sebastian Malec held a sizable lead over his opponents and the PokerStars qualifier also reached the final table as well, securing the biggest payday on his poker resume thus far.

After six levels of 90 minutes each, Uri Reichenstein (11,330,000) edged out Thomas De Rooij (11,180,000) by less than one big blind. Mixed game specialist Adam “Adamyid” Owen follows in third place with 9,800,000 and the Brit set up the unofficial nine-handed final table with players from nine different countries by eliminating Morten Mortensen in tenth place with ace-ten versus ace-king.

They are joined by start-of-the-day leader Malec (7,330,000), Zorlu Er (7,090,000), Andreas Chalkiadakis (5,015,000) and Harcharan Dogra Dogra (1,700,000). Dogra Dogra is the last Spaniard in the field, hoping to keep the title on home soil, but will return with the shortest stack when play resumes in level 32 at blinds 100,000 / 200,000 and a running ante of 25,000.

2016 November Niner Vojtech Ruzicka was among the biggest names left in contention, but the Czech exited in 24th place. He first lost a big pot to Andrea Cortellazzi and then got his stack in with middle pair and a straight draw only to see Dogra Dogra look him up with the flopped straight. Other early casualties included Day 2 chip leader Anthony Chimkovitch (20th, for €49,170) and Michael Addamo (18th, for €49,170), while the last two tables were set with the elimination of Nuno Capucho in 17th place.

Mikahil Molchanov's run in the Main Event came to an end in 14th place after a cruel beat saw his pocket kings being cracked by Pavel Plesuv's pocket nines, when the king-high board gave the Moldovian a runner runner four-card straight. Konstantin Puchkov, who holds the most EPT cashes with 82 scores, followed in 13th when his king-queen failed to improve against the ace-king of De Rooij.

Cortellazzi and Alexandru Baron fell in 12th respectively 11th place and Mortensen then fell short of the final table after getting three-outered. Owen started the nine-handed final table with a strong lead and stayed in the top spot until the last few hands of the night.

Stephen Malone chipped up right away when the field was combined to the last table only to see his hopes getting crushed when his pocket kings were met by Er's ace-king and a cruel ace on the river.

Only two hands later, Plesuv fell in a three-way pot with pocket jacks after his straight draw and overpair could not improve against Reichenstein's flopped set of eights.

No further players would join the rail until the end of the sixth level of Day 5 and the remaining seven finalists have €230,950 locked up. However, all eyes are set on the first-place payout of €1,122,800, and a spot in the history books of poker by taking down the record-breaking Main Event with impressive 1,785 entries.

Running Well?

Nível 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Thomas De Rooij
Thomas De Rooij

Thomas De Rooij has been playing great at the final table and currently finds himself second in chips behind Adam Owen after making a call that left the watching rail and EPT Live commentators in awe during the previous level. Just a few hands before the break, and on a scary-looking board, De Rooij called with just a pair of kings and eight kicker. He was shown the stone-cold bluff from Adam Owen and raked in a big pot.

"I figured a lot of the two-pair or combo hands he could have weren't there. I put him on other hands and that led me to the call. I'm pretty glad I made it!"

He's flown under the radar a little on the penultimate day of the 2016 PokerStars.es EPT Barcelona Main Event, and that's a very deliberate ploy from the Dutchman.

"I quite like the position I'm in. Hopefully some other players have more well-known ways of playing and I don't. I'd like that."

It's not the first time Thomas has had to run well this week, after an unfortunate incident in Barcelona left him with a large plaster on his arm, which has been quite visible on the stream.

"I was walking with my friend on Thursday and had Google Maps open on his smartphone because we didn't know where we were going. A guy on a bike crashed through us and took my friend's phone and knocked me over. I got up and chased after him in flip-flops, but he outran me on the bike! I look at it like destiny now, as I'm here in the final."

He can already afford a replacement phone, as he's guaranteed €230,950 even if he finishes in seventh place. But De Rooij will be hoping to run even better than he attempted on Thursday to make the final six... and shoot for the title. He may even run away with it.

Pavel Plesuv Eliminated in 8th Place (€165,950)

Nível 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Pavel Plesuv
Pavel Plesuv

Hand #7: Pavel Plesuv raised to 255,000 from the hijack and Reichenstein called on the button, as did Andreas Chalkiadakis in the big blind.

The flop came {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, and the action checked to Reichenstein. He bet 560,000 and Chalkiadakis asked "you have like three behind?" Reichenstein replied "I started the hand with 4.2". Chalkiadakis then folded and Plesuv check-raised all in for 2,375,000. Reichenstein called and Plesuv was the player at risk.

Plesuv: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Reichenstein: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

The {4-Diamonds} turn changed nothing, as neither player held a diamond. And the {2-Diamonds} river reduced the field to seven with less than a dozen hands played. Plesuv takes home €165,950 for his efforts and the action will stop for the day when there are just six participants remaining.

Stephen Malone Eliminated in 9th Place (€123, 450)

Nível 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Stephen Malone
Stephen Malone

Hand #5: Stephen Malone raised from under the gun for 255,000. Zorlu Er three-bet to 975,000 in the next seat. Folded round to Malone, the Irishman shoved all in for 3,800,000 and Er called it off!

Er: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Malone: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The flop of {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} kept Malone ahead, as did the {8-Diamonds} , but three-outer river of the {A-Clubs} skittled Ireland's Stephen Malone in brutal, brutal fashion.

Morten Mortensen Eliminated in 10th Place (€98,350)

Nível 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Morten Mortensen
Morten Mortensen

It happened again! Morten Mortensen is left mortified after a horrible bad beat has busted him in 10th place exactly four seasons after he busted in 10th place in the 2012 EPT Barcelona Main Event.

Adam Owen raised under the gun to 230,000 and Pavel Plesuv called in the cut off. Morten Mortensen raised to 775,000 from the small blind, and when Adam Owen shoved all-in for almost ten million chips, Mortensen quickly called it off.

Morten Mortensen: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Adam Owen: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop of {2-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} kept Mortensen ahead, improving on his 69% pre-flop chance percentage. But the {10-Hearts} turn was a nightmare for him, and despite having seven outs on the river, he could find neither a king or a jack as the {5-Clubs} ended his tournament in the worst possible way.

While Mortensen's rail are dejected, Adam Owen's fans have gone crazy. Their man has 15 million chips, a vast lead over the field and every chance of making the EPT Main Event final table as leader. Neither he - or Morten - can hardly believe what just happened.

Alexandru Baron Eliminated in 11th Place (€98,350)

Nível 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Alexandru Baron
Alexandru Baron

Thomas De Rooij raised to 225,000 from the cutoff and Alexandru Baron moved all in from one seat over. The action folded back to De Rooij, and he asked for a count.

Once it was determined to be 1,425,000, he tossed in the obligatory chip and a coin flip was about to unfold while the camera team gathered around the outer table.

Baron: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
De Rooij: {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}

While the {J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop changed nothing, the {A-Hearts} on the turn improved De Rooij to a pair of aces. A blank {6-Clubs} river sent Baron to the rail and one player will now be moved from the feature table to balance the last 10 players on two tables.

At nine, they will combine for the unofficial final table, and the goal of the day is to reach the final six.

Nível 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Andrea Cortellazzi
Andrea Cortellazzi

From under the gun, Andrea Cortellazzi moved all in for 10 big blind and Zorlu Er asked for a count. The shove of the Italian was for 1,005,000 and Er then called, the rest of the table folded.

Cortellazzi: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Er: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and there was no help for the Italian, his roller coaster ride throughout the day ended in 12th place for a payday of €81,700.

Konstantin Puchkov Eliminated in 13th Place (€81,700)

Nível 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Konstantin Puchkov
Konstantin Puchkov

Zorlu Er raised to 185,000 from early position and Konstantin Puchkov flat-called with a stack of less than one million in total. On the button, Thomas De Rooij three-bet to 600,000 and Er asked for the amount of the reraise and the stack behind of the Dutchman. Er then folded and Puchkov cut out his stack carefully before just calling.

On the {9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, Puchkov moved all in for around 260,000 and De Rooij snap-called.

Puchkov: {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
De Rooij: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The {3-Spades} turn and {5-Spades} river were both blanks and Puchkov was eliminated in 13th place for €81,700.

Mikhail Molchanov Eliminated in 14th Place (€69170)

Nível 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Mikhail Molchanov
Mikhail Molchanov

A huge hand has seen Mikahil Molchanov bust here in 14th place at the EPT Barcelona Main Event. He can consider himself horrendously unlucky to be out of the tournament.

Molchanov was all-in from the button for 2.15m and was up against Pavel Plesuv in the small blind.

Mikhail Molchanov: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Pavel Plesuv: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

The flop of {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} put Molchanov in control of the hand and likely to double up, a 95% shot in fact. But the turn {Q-Clubs} and river {J-Diamonds} gave Plesuv the unlikeliest of straights and sent Molchanov crashing out of the Main Event.

In twenty seconds, Mikhail Molchanov has gone from looking good to make the final table in an event where top prize is over €1.1m to out with €69,170 instead. Plesuv has 5.82m and an eye on the next deal.

Alisan Holozlu Eliminated in 15th Place (€69,170)

Nível 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Alisan Holozlu
Alisan Holozlu

Hand #1:

Alisan Holozlu called Harcharan Dogra Dogra's bet of 180,000 pre-flop from the big blind. Dogra Dogra was in mid position and both players checked the {7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop.

The turn of {Q-Spades} prompted a bet of 200,000 from Holozlu, but it was called by Dogra Dogra. And on the river {K-Clubs} , Holozlu's move all in was also called. Holozlu had been bluffing with a gut-shot from the flop that missed both streets that Dogra Dogra hit.

Hand #2

Holozlu was all in very soon afterwards with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} over Er's opening bet of 165k from the hijack position. Er called it off, and Holozlu in the small blind needed help, because Er had called with {A-Spades}{6-Spades}.

The board of {A-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} gave him only the briefest of hopes on the turn, but that was quickly extinguished, and so is he in terms of the EPT Barcelona Main Event this season.
