After a rollercoaster final day, Sebastian Malec has become the latest EPT Main Event champion in fine style in Barcelona, winning €1,122,800 after overcoming Uri Reichenstein heads-up in dramatic fashion.

The final day featured seven players instead of six, thanks to Harcharan Dogra Dogra's late, late fold last night, but the only remaining Spanish player in the final field was first to bust. After finding no spots to make a move, Dogra Dogra was in the big blind when Thomas de Rooij raised to 450,000 from the cutoff. Down to six big blinds, he defended from the big blind. After seeing the {9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop, Dogra Dogra immediately went all in for 750,000, and De Rooij snap-called.

Thomas de Rooij: {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Harcharan Dogra Dogra: {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

After a {K-Diamonds} on the turn, the {4-Diamonds} on the river gave De Rooij a higher pair. The friendly restauranteur and local hero Dogra Dogra was 'out out' for a massive €230,950 payday.

Very soon after Dogra Dogra's exit, Andreas Chalkiadakis was the next one to bust, earning €330,290. Chalkiadakis shoved all-in for 4,075,000 (20BB) with {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. Adam Owen held {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and reshoved all in. With no surprises on the board, Owen eliminated the Greek player in 6th place.

It wasn't long before Zorlu Er joined Chalkiadakis on the rail. The Turkish player defended his big blind with {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} after Uri Reichenstein raised to 400,000 on the button with {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. The flop of {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} saw Reichenstein flop the flush, and after check-calling the flop, Er did the same on the {10-Clubs} turn, then called all in for his tournament life on the {6-Hearts} river. Er banked a massive €431,550 for his fifth place finish.

The remaining players took a quick break to discuss a potential deal, but could not come to a satisfactory conclusion. After the busted dealbreaking, Thomas de Rooij was eliminated in fourth place. After a damaging hand against Adam Owen, De Rooij was down to just three big blinds when he shoved under the gun with {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Uri Reichenstein looked him up with {J-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and flopped a pair of threes to knock out De Rooij. The Dutchman got a massive check of €535,100 for his fourth place, easily the biggest finish of his career.

It was only a couple of minutes later before Adam Owen joined his rival on the rail. Sebastian Malec called with {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} from the button, Uri Reichenstein called in the small blind with {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and Adam Owen moved all in from the big blind with {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for 5.6m chips. Sebastian Malec moved all-in over the top to fold out Reichenstein, and Malec's ace-high held up to send Owen out of the door with €646,250.

Sebastian Malec went into the heads-up with 21.35 million against Uri Reichenstein's 32 million, but the lead swung back and forth multiple times during an intense five-hour battle. At times, Reichenstein looked to be in control, then Malec would move himself back in contention with a series of plays which stepped outside the lines of convention.

Twice, the Polish player hero-called on the river when ahead in chips, in a desperate attempt to end the duel with his name on the trophy. Each time, however, Reichenstein had the goods and got back into it. The stoic Reichenstein made a sharp contrast to the young and excited Malec, who stood up multiple times, calculating odds out loud and talking himself through every decision.

After the hour-long grueling battle and the stacks dead even, it suddenly ended in one dramatic hand that will find its place in EPT history. Reichenstein turned a straight as Malec turned the flush and the EPT 'Selfie Moment' was born, Malec sitting on the rail to watch his opponent hand him the victory by making that fateful call.

Sarah was table side after his win.

Congratulations to Sebastian Malec from Poland, who outlasted the field of 1,785 players to become the biggest ever EPT Main Event's champion here in the beautiful Catalan city of Barcelona, Spain. We hope you enjoyed the coverage of EPT Barcelona by the PokerNews live reporting team and can't wait to bring you the next thrilling moment in live poker. Until next time!

Hand #187: Malec limped with {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} on the button and Reichensterin checked with {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. The flop of {J-Spades}{6-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} had something for both players, and Reichenstein bet 800,000 into the 1.4 million pot. Malec, unconcerned, raised to 3 million, and Reichenstein called.

The {8-Hearts} on the turn was the absolute belly buster of all time. Reichenstein turned a straight, but Malec had the flush! It was an incredible card, and Malec danced from foot to foot in front of his opponent.

Sebastian Malec bet 5 million and Reichenstein, with his straight, called. The river of {8-Diamonds} saw Malec move all in within seconds. All he needed was the call and he would be the champion.

"I think I got you covered, right? You never have a strong hand. Just fold and I can go to the bathroom."

Malec was marching around, saying he wanted to go to the toilet...but he already had the flush!

Reichenstein was trying to process the decision. Malec walked to the rail and sat watching Reichenstein ponder the call. Amazingly, as the crowd couldn't quite believe their eyes, a member of the audience took a selfie with Malec...and it was at that moment that Reichenstein called!

Right at that moment, Sebastian Malec had won the EPT Main Event and Reichenstein, having turned the straight, made an agonising call to lose the tournament. In doing so, he gave the trophy to Poland's Sebastian Malec.

Just before his rail embraced him, Uri Reichenstein shook his opponent's hand and the two men exchanged a truly touching moment, smiling at each other as the tension was broken. Reichenstein walked disconsolately away to his rail, while Sebastian Malec was surrounded, engulfed by his friends as his emotions took the better of him.

What an incredible way to win any tournament and maybe the ultimate way to win the EPT Barcelona Main Event!

Hand #141: Sebastian Malec got a walk.

Hand #142: Malec limped the button with {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades} and Uri Reichenstein checked {A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. The flop {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} hit Malec hard, and he took it down with a 1,650,000 bet.

Hand #143: Reichenstein raised with {10-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Malec called with {A-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Malec check-called a bet of 1,000,000 on the {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop.

The turn was the {2-Hearts}. Malec checked, and Reichenstein now bet 2,400,000. Malec asked for a count of Reichenstein's stack, then called the turn.

The {J-Clubs} on the river was exactly what Reichenstein needed, as he filled his straight up. Malec laughed and joked, but when Reichenstein shoved 10,550,000 into the nine million pot, it was no laughing matter anymore.

"I want to call you so bad," Malec said, and he rose from his chair. For minutes on end, he named all the possible holdings Reichenstein could have in his range, desperately trying to find a holding he could beat.

"It's a very good spot for me to call," Malec said, having done two minutes of math out loud, while using words that would make many a recreational player's head spin.

"Ok, I call," Malec said ten seconds later, sliding a tower of 500,000-chips forward. Reichenstein quickly flipped over his straight, and a visibly gutted Malec had to ship ten million in chips to his opponent. Reichenstein scored a huge double up and reclaimed the chiplead.

Malec Takes The Chiplead With Quad Fours

Hand #133: Sebastian Malec raised to 900,000 with {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}. Reichenstein picked up a big hand with {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}. He three-bet to 2,000,000, and Malec snap-folded.

Hand #134: Reichenstein picked up another monster, {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}, and raised to 1,000,000. Malec defended with {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and got a piece of the {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop, and he check-called a 900,000 bet from Reichenstein.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and both players checked. The {2-Spades} river missed Reichenstein's outs, and both went to showdown. Malec's pair of tens took down the pot.

Hand #135; Malec limped the button with {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Reichenstein put in a big raise, making it 1,400,000 with the optional {Q-Spades}{6-Clubs}, and Malec called. The call paid off, as Malec flopped a set on {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop to take a commanding lead in the hand. Reichenstein continued with 1,400,000, Malec slowplayed his monster and just called.

The {10-Spades} turn left Reichenstein drawing dead, but the German kept fighting for the pot. He fired a hefty bet of 3,300,000. The trap still wasn't sprung by Malec, as he once again smooth-called in position.

The {4-Diamonds} only made things spicier, as Malec improved to quad fours! The pot already had grown to 12,300,000 and Reichenstein was in a world of trouble. He bet 6,200,000, chips he wouldn't be seeing again soon.

It was time for Malec to come out of the woodworks, but not before a little Hollywooding, After two minutes, Malec delivered the bad news and shoved for 17,900,000, leaving Reichenstein no option but to fold immediately. For the first time since the two started the heads-up match, Malec grabbed the chiplead.

Hand #54: No sooner had Thomas De Rooij been busted did we lose another!

Sebastian Malec made the call with {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} from the button. So too did Uri Reichenstein in the small blind with {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Adam Owen moved all in from the big blind with {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for 5,600,000 and when Sebastian Malec moved all-in over the top, Reichenstein folded.

The flop of {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} saw Malec move to 76% favourite to win the hand, and the {8-Clubs} on the turn changed nothing. The river of {6-Diamonds} didn't either, and that sent Adam Owen out of the EPT Barcelona Main Event in 3rd place for €646,250. A spectacular weekend for the Brit, but he just misses out on the heads-up fun.

Hand #53: Thomas de Rooij, down to his last three big blinds, shoved under the gun with {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Sebastian Malec called from the small blind with {K-Spades}{6-Hearts}, but Uri Reichenstein had different plans. With the optional {J-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, Reichenstein reraised to 3,300,000 and Malec quickly folded.

Due to Reichenstein's play, De Rooij was a 63% favourite to triple up. However, It wasn't meant to be for the Dutchman, as the board ran out {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Reichenstein made a pair of threes to knock out De Rooij, ending the Dutchman's run in fourth place. De Rooij banked an astonishing €535,100 for his deep run in the EPT 13 Barcelona Main Event.

Hand #42: Sebastian Malec limped in for 250,000 under the gun with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Uri Reichenstein raised to 800,000 on the button holding {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}. Adam Owen called out of the big blind with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, and Malec called as well.

The {Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop brought something for everyone to work with. Owen checked, Malec checked, and Reichenstein bet 1,500,000. Owen check-raised to 3,100,000, getting Malec to fold his second pair. Reichenstein smooth-called in position.

The turn was the {8-Spades}, which would have improved Malec's hand to two pair. Owen checked to Reichenstein, and the German shoved all in. It was a bet of 9,375,000 total, slightly bigger than the pot of 8,525,000.

The shove was for 75% of Owen's remaining stack, which sent the Brit deep in the tank. It took him nearly six minutes before he called, creating the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

Owen got the bad news when the cards went open, drawing to the two remaining queens to survive. Although the final table had it's fair share of bad beats, this time the best hand stayed ahead when the {A-Hearts} hit the river.

Reichenstein catapulted to a monster chiplead. Owen took a big hit to his stack and remained behind with just 12 big blinds.

The flop was gin for Reichenstein: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. With his flopped flush, Reichenstein bet 200,000 and Er check-called with lightning speed.

On the {10-Clubs} turn, Er checked and Reichenstein now bet 900,000. Once again, Er snap-called the bet. The river was the {6-Hearts} and Er checked a third time. Reichenstein quickly moved all in, overbetting 4,700,000 in a pot of 3,200,000. Even with the gigantic bet for his tournament life, Er called it off in three seconds!

Reichenstein quickly tabled his flush and Er was suddenly eliminated, taking home an incredible €431,550 for his accomplishment. The remaining players took a quick break to discuss a potential deal.

Adam Owen woke up with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} in the big blind and re-shoved all in for 6,160,000 total. De Rooij moved out of the way.

The flop of {J-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} kept Owen in the lead, but gave Chalkiadakis outs with one of the four tens needed to make a Broadway straight. Who Will Become The 2016 PokerStars.es EPT 13 Barcelona Main Event Champion?

Can Adam Owen Become EPT Champion?
Can Adam Owen Become EPT Champion?

Welcome to the final day of the 2016 PokerStars.es European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event! Of the record-breaking starting field of 1785 players, only seven hopefuls remain in the hunt for the EPT title and the incredible first price of €1,122,800. They're are already guaranteed a massive payday of €230,950, but today, life-changing money is on the line.

Germany's Uri Reichenstein holds the chiplead with 11,300,000 (57 bb), but it's just less than one big blind that's separating him and Holland's Thomas de Rooij, who bagged 11,180,000 after five days of play. The international final table is completed by England's Adam Owen (9,800,000 / 49 bb), Sebastian Malec from Poland (7,330,000 / 37 bb), Turkey's Zorlu Er (7,090,000 / 35 bb), Andreas Chalkiadakis, hailing from Greece (5,015,000 / 25 bb), and local hero Harcharan Dogra Dogra, who will start with 1,700,000 and holds the shortstack with 9 bb.

By now, the remaining seven are quite familiar with each other, as yesterday already saw plenty of final table play. It was Stephen Malone from Ireland being the first to go. In hand #5, Malone ran pocket kings into Er's ace-king, only to saw the dreaded ace appear on the river (9th - €123,450). Shortly after, Bulgarian Pavel Plesuv lost jacks versus Reichenstein's eights when the latter flopped a set, and finished 8th (€165,950). In total, 42 hands were played at the final table before play was halted for the night.

Action resumes at 1 p.m. local time, and the live stream with hole cards will be on a security delay of one hour. The blinds will start at 100,000 / 200,000 and a 25,000-chip ante, with levels of 90 minutes being played. The PokerNews live reporting team is in Casino Barcelona to cover the action hand-for-hand until the EPT 13 Barcelona Main Event champion has been crowned!
