Friedman Begins Quest for Four in a Row in $10,000 Dealer’s Choice

Three-Time $10,000 Dealers Choice Champion, Adam Friedman
Three-Time $10,000 Dealers Choice Champion, Adam Friedman

The first Championship event of the 53rd World Series of Poker begins Sunday, and it couldn’t be a higher profile tournament.

All eyes in poker's mixed-game community will be on Event #10: $10,000 Dealer's Choice 6-Handed Championship, also now affectionately known as the “Adam Friedman Classic”.

The highly-respected mixed game wizard has won each of the last three Dealer's Choice Championships, defeating a who’s who of the poker world along the way to earning over $850,000 with his victories.

Who Can Stop Friedman?

This event brings out the absolute best of poker’s mixed game players, and one who has returned to the WSOP in full force so far this year is Poker Hall of Famer, Phil Ivey. The 10-time bracelet winner could be among the stacked field looking to stop a Freidman four-peat.

Recent runners-up Phil Hellmuth and Shaun Deeb are certain to be in the field, as well as a host of other superstars and multi-time bracelet winners.

Four-time bracelet winner Brad Ruben won the $1,500 Dealer's Choice event earlier this week, in which Friedman finished 15th.

Jaswinder Lally was runner-up to Ruben and is the 2021 champion of the $1,500 event. Could we see him take a shot at making a run in today’s championship event?

What to Expect

The players will have a variety of 20 flop, stud, and draw games to choose from each orbit, with ten 60-minute levels scheduled for Day 1 and 15-minute breaks slotted in after every two levels.

The event is a freezeout, and the field will begin with 60,000 chips with late registration open until the beginning of Day 2, which will see seven 90-minute levels played.

Action kicks off at 3 p.m. local time in the Paris Ballroom and the PokerNews live reporting team will have all the action from this and every event from the WSOP’s new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.

First Smaller Pot to Buchanan

Nível 1

Pot-Limit Omaha

Maxx Coleman raised the pot to 700 and was called by Jesse Klein. On the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop, Coleman continued right away and Klein folded.

Shortly after, David Benyamine tangled with Shawn Buchanan to create a pot of around 3,500 to the {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop. Both players checked and did so again on the {j-Spades} turn and {5-Spades} river. Buchanan tabled the {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for trips jacks and that won the pot.

The Stack of Roberts Gets Halved Right Away

Nível 1

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

A small pot emerged until the third and final draw was completed but things then escalated between Christian Roberts and Fabian Reitz. It was the latter who bet 2,700 into a pot of 3,800 and Roberts opted for a raise to 11,000. Reitz then reraised to 25,000 and Roberts was shell-shock for a few seconds. He gulped and eventually called to risk half of his stack after only a few minutes of play.

"I think I have a number two," Reitz announced and Roberts replied back "you think?" to which Reitz nodded. "Last time I checked, I did," before revealing the {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. That won the large pot as the stack of Roberts was halved.

Buchalter Gets Lally to Fold

Nível 1

Badacey

Joining the action on the second draw, Jaswinder Lally and Yehuda Buchalter both drew two cards and Lally check-called a bet by Buchalter. He discarded one more card and Buchalter patted to then bet once more following a check by Lally. The Canadian opted to fold and Buchalter tabled the {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Clubs} Badugi, then added he had a nine to go with it.

"I had ace deuce four," Lally replied and admitted that he "should have called."

Negreanu Calls Pot-Limit Omaha, Immediately Ends up All in

Nível 1
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Pot-Limit Omaha

In the first hand of PLO, Daniel Negreanu limped in the cutoff and was raised to 2,000 by 2021 $1,500 Dealer's Choice champion (and 2022 runner-up) Jaswinder Lally, who raised to 2,000.

Negreanu came back with a re-raise to 5,600 which Lally called.

The duo saw a flop of {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and Lally led out for 15,000. Negreanu then moved all in for slightly more than Lally's approximately 51,000 chips and was quickly called.

Jaswinder Lally: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Daniel Negreanu: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}

Each player had aces, but Negreanu also had a flush draw to go with his.

The turn brought the {8-Diamonds}, giving each player a full house to chop the pot before the inconsequential {k-Hearts} fell on the river.
