Friedman Begins Quest for Four in a Row in $10,000 Dealer’s Choice

Three-Time $10,000 Dealers Choice Champion, Adam Friedman
Three-Time $10,000 Dealers Choice Champion, Adam Friedman

The first Championship event of the 53rd World Series of Poker begins Sunday, and it couldn’t be a higher profile tournament.

All eyes in poker's mixed-game community will be on Event #10: $10,000 Dealer's Choice 6-Handed Championship, also now affectionately known as the “Adam Friedman Classic”.

The highly-respected mixed game wizard has won each of the last three Dealer's Choice Championships, defeating a who’s who of the poker world along the way to earning over $850,000 with his victories.

Who Can Stop Friedman?

This event brings out the absolute best of poker’s mixed game players, and one who has returned to the WSOP in full force so far this year is Poker Hall of Famer, Phil Ivey. The 10-time bracelet winner could be among the stacked field looking to stop a Freidman four-peat.

Recent runners-up Phil Hellmuth and Shaun Deeb are certain to be in the field, as well as a host of other superstars and multi-time bracelet winners.

Four-time bracelet winner Brad Ruben won the $1,500 Dealer's Choice event earlier this week, in which Friedman finished 15th.

Jaswinder Lally was runner-up to Ruben and is the 2021 champion of the $1,500 event. Could we see him take a shot at making a run in today’s championship event?

What to Expect

The players will have a variety of 20 flop, stud, and draw games to choose from each orbit, with ten 60-minute levels scheduled for Day 1 and 15-minute breaks slotted in after every two levels.

The event is a freezeout, and the field will begin with 60,000 chips with late registration open until the beginning of Day 2, which will see seven 90-minute levels played.

Action kicks off at 3 p.m. local time in the Paris Ballroom and the PokerNews live reporting team will have all the action from this and every event from the WSOP’s new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.

Negreanu Calls Pot-Limit Omaha, Immediately Ends up All in

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Pot-Limit Omaha

In the first hand of PLO, Daniel Negreanu limped in the cutoff and was raised to 2,000 by 2021 $1,500 Dealer's Choice champion (and 2022 runner-up) Jaswinder Lally, who raised to 2,000.

Negreanu came back with a re-raise to 5,600 which Lally called.

The duo saw a flop of {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and Lally led out for 15,000. Negreanu then moved all in for slightly more than Lally's approximately 51,000 chips and was quickly called.

Jaswinder Lally: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Daniel Negreanu: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}

Each player had aces, but Negreanu also had a flush draw to go with his.

The turn brought the {8-Diamonds}, giving each player a full house to chop the pot before the inconsequential {k-Hearts} fell on the river.

Williams Eliminated by Chait

Craig Chait

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

After the first draw, David Williams bet 3,200 on the button and was called by Craig Chait in the small blind while Benny Glaser folded in the cutoff. Chait discarded one and Williams patted for Chait to check and Williams to then bet 10,000 with around 24,000 behind.

What followed was the check-raise by Chait to 40,000 and Williams tanked for a while before he called all-in. Chait declared early that he patted and Williams sighed to then say "guess I break my eighty-five then" as he tossed away the {8-Diamonds}.

Chait rolled over the {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a number two and Williams exposed {6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} as he broke up an eighty-six, needing a seven to tie. However, he peeled a {q-} and became the second casualty of the day.

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

"Good game guys," Jaswinder Lally said as he tapped the table in defeat and quickly headed to the rail with all cards already scooped up. Yuval Bronshtein was all smiles and raked in the pot, then provided the details as to what happened.

According to Bronshtein, he called a raise by Lally and discarded two while Lally took one. They then patted and Broshtein raised to 15,000 before calling the shove by Lally for around 25,000. Both patted once more and Lally revealed an eighty-six while Bronshtein won the pot with a {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} for a number three.

Fuchs Eliminates Baker

Nível 5
Carol Fuchs
Carol Fuchs

Pot-Limit Omaha

David "Bakes" Baker was just seen leaving the tournament floor, and his exectutioner, Carol Fuchs was kind enough to relay the details of his elimination.

Preflop, Fuchs raised to 1,100 and Baker called in the big blind.

On a flop of {k-}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, Baker check-raised Fuchs, then called off for the rest of his roughly 40,000 chip stack after Fuchs shoved on him.

David "Bakes" Baker: {k-}{5-}{x-}{x-}
Carol Fuchs: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}

Baker had top two pair, but was facing a world of outs for Fuchs who had a wrap and a flush draw.

The {9-Spades} brought no help to Fuchs, but the {a-Hearts} on the river certainly did, giving the 2015 $1,500 WSOP Dealer's Choice champ a winning straight, and vaulting her stack over 100,000.

Meanwhile at neighboring hands, Frank Kassella and Christian Roberts are among recent elminations.

Ladines Runs Hot; Busts Negreanu

Nível 6
Daniel Negreanu

Pot-Limit Omaha High

On a completed board of {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, Joshua Ladines bet 18,000 and that sent Carol Fuchs into the tank. Fuchs ended up folding and Ladines flashed three cards to her including the {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a straight flush.

One hand later, Daniel Negreanu raised and called a three-bet by Ladines to then get his chips in after the {k-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop with Ladines making the call.

Daniel Negreanu: {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Joshua Ladines: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{2-Spades}

The {k-Diamonds} turn and the {k-Clubs} river improved Ladines to quads and knocked out Negreanu.

Elezra and Moncek Cap It

Nível 6
Eli Elezra

Badeucey

Picking action up on the first draw, Michael Moncek and Eli Elezra each drew three cards.

After both players checked, they each drew two. Moncek then check-called a bet from Elezra, and each of them drew one.

On the final round of betting, Moncek check-raised Elezra, who then raised right back. Moncek raised once more and Elezra called.

The players then rolled over their monsters.

Moncek had {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, for number four. with a six-five-four Badugi.

Elezra showed {8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} for a strong but losing 2-7 hand, but a six-five-three Badugi to claim half of the pot.

Elezra Wins a Large Three-Way Pot

Stud Hi-Lo

Michael Moncek: {x-}{x-} / {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Spades} / {x-}

Eli Elezra: {x-}{x-} / {k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{k-Clubs} / {x-}

A large three-way pot emerged in which Eli Elezra bet sixth street to get called by Michael Moncek and Jason Su. Elezra checked seventh and Moncek bet for almost his entire remaining short stack. Su called and Elezra also called as well.

Moncek revealed two pair and a missed low draw while Su had aces up. However, it was Elezra who dragged in the large pot with {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} for a set of kings. Moncek had fumes left, chopped the next hand to double before he was knocked out right after that.

Elezra then thanked newly arrived Ryan Miller for picking this particular game. "You are welcome, I gotta help you out," Miller replied.

Friedman Put in the Tank

Picking action up on the first draw with three bets in each, Scott Clements drew one in the small blind and Adam Friedman drew two on the button.

Clements bet and Friedman called, then each player drew one.

Again Clements bet and Friedman called.

On the final draw, Clements stood pat and Friedman drew one. Clements bet once more and the three-time defending champion went deep into the tank.

"This sucks", said Friedman at one point before picking up his chips and placing them in front of Clements then mucking his hand.

Friedman hasn't been able to pick up any consistent momentum today as his stack hasn't ventured too high or low from its 60,000 chip starting point.
