Shot Clocks and Time Banks in Play

Short Deck Shot Clock
Short Deck Shot Clock

The Short Deck tournament not only features the three bullet system with stacks of 20,000 each for all participants but the event also utilises a 30-second shot clock during all hands. On each street, the players have 30 seconds to act and they have six 30-second time bank extensions available. Once they have run out of time and cannot use a time bank anymore, the hand will be declared dead.

At the end of Day 1, all unused add-on chips will be redeemed since the late registration for this tournament ends prior to the first hand dealt on Day 2.

According to the tournament clock, there are 20 players registered and most of them have already shown up. They are scattered across the tables in the Amazon Tan section and the field size is certain to grow in the hours to come.

Welcome to Day 1 of Event #29: $10,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em

Another high-stakes contest of the 2021 World Series of Poker is slated to kick off at 3pm local time on Thursday, October 14, 2021. While several mixed games have already taken place during the first two weeks, one particular game type has not been featured yet but this will change as of today. Event #29: $10,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em will certainly feature some of the biggest names in the world of poker, all taking their shot at the coveted gold bracelet.

Two years ago during the 2019 WSOP, a Short Deck gold bracelet was awarded for the first time. Back then, an 114-entry strong field emerged and it was Alex Epstein who claimed his maiden gold bracelet after defeating Thai Ha in heads-up. Notable finalists were Anson Tsang, Chance Kornuth, and Andrew Robl but it was Epstein who walked away with the top prize of $296,227.

Epstein cashed in two events of the domestic WSOP Bracelet Events back in July and finished in 22nd place just a few days ago in Event #20: $1,000 FLIP & GO No-Limit Hold'em, making it very likely that he will be back in action at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino to try and defend his title.

Short Deck Hold'em plays with a deck of 36 cards as all deuces to fives are removed. The ace plays as high and low card, thus making a wheel from ace to nine possible. Another significant difference to regular Hold'em is the rank of hand combinations, as a flush beats a full house. All players pay an ante every hand and the player on the button pays two times of the ante.

The three-day tournament will feature levels of 60 minutes each and Day 1 is slated for eight levels with a scheduled 15-minute break every two levels. All tables are running six-handed and the final table will be set once seven players remain. One re-entry is allowed and players can join the action until the start of Day 2 on Friday, October 14, 2021, at 2pm local time.

The tournament uses the commonly accepted three bullet system, giving players three stacks of 20,000 each that they can redeem at any time during the registration period. All remaining bullets will be put in play once the registration period has closed.

Follow all the action right here on PokerNews as the live reporting team will be on the floor throughout the entire duration of the latest WSOP gold bracelet event in Las Vegas.
