The Race to the Money and Beyond on Day of Event #18: $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball

Julien Martini is second in chips for Day 2
Julien Martini is second in chips for Day 2

Out of a field of 253 entries, only 104 players will return to the seats in the Amazon Room to showcase their skills in the latest mixed game tournament of the 2021 World Series of Poker. As of 2 p.m. local time, Event #18: $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball will recommence and all those still in contention will aim to secure a portion of the $562,925 prize pool. More than half of them will leave empty-handed as just the top 38 finishers will earn at least $4,097 for their efforts.

Three WSOP bracelet winners are at the top of the leaderboard and Robert Mizrachi leads the pack with 201,000. He is followed by Julien Martini (180,000) and Scott Seiver (177,000) while several other contenders are just a few big blinds behind. Philip Sternheimer can also be found in the overnight top ten while Joao Vieira and Randy Ohel are just outside.

Defending champion Dan Zack is also in the mix with a stack of 127,500, which is well above the average when Day 2 kicks off at limits of 2,500/5,000. All levels will last 60 minutes each until a winner has been crowned and a total of ten levels are scheduled for the penultimate tournament day. There will be a 15-minute break every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level.

The money bubble is certain to burst today and the field will likely be whittled down to the last few tables. Stay tuned right here on PokerNews to find out who makes the cut in this mixed game competition, which includes 2-7 Triple Draw, A-5 Triple Draw, and Badugi.

Tayi Soars to Big Stack

Steve Zolotow
Steve Zolotow

A-5 Triple Draw

There were two open seats and Venkata Tayi stormed into a big stack after having knocked out Steve Zolotow and Colin Maneval. Nicholas Julia was also involved in the hand but the six-five of Tayi won it all as the cards were all but mashed together.

Tayi then won a pot off Frank Kassela to leave the latter with a single T-5,000 chip. Mike Gorodinsky arrived and raised, Kassela called all-in and Tayi called as well. Gorodinsky discard two cards, Kasella three and Tayi patted.

"That means there are a lot of good cards in the deck," Kasella joked. One more bet each went in between Gorodinsky and Tayi but the former then folded. Tayi patted once more and Kasella took one more card to reveal {a-}{6-}{5-}{3-} first. "Am I live?" he asked and peeled the {2-} to get there, as Tayi briefly exposed the {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}{a-}.

The previous hand was described as a blood bath by Julia, by the way.

Negreanu Survived All-in Versus Baker and Milkey

Nível 12 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

2-7 Triple Draw

Daniel Negreanu and Scott Milkey were both all-in with the final draw remaining versus David Baker. Negreau stood pat, and Baker and Milkey each drew one card.

With the action completed, Negreanu tabled {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} eight-six low, slightly notching the {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for an eight-seven low of Milkey's. That sent Baker's cards into the muck.

With that hand, Negreanu survived his all-in and tripled up, and now sits at 32,500 chips.

2-7 Triple Draw

Dan Zack was already all-in prior to the first draw and Mike Gorodinsky drew three new cards while Zack only needed one fresh card. On the second draw, both players took one new card and Gorodinsky then patted while Zack discarded one for the third draw in a row.

Gorodinsky rolled over the {9-}{8-}{7-}{5-}{2-} and Zack flashed {7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} for his sweat. "No paint please," he said in table chat but peeled the {j-} to hit the rail.

Badugi

Julien Martini raised and Johannes Becker defended out of the blinds. Becker discarded two cards and Martini took one new card. Becker check-called to then have both players discard one each. A raising war broke out during which Martini ended up at risk. They both patted and Becker revealed the {6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for a Five-Dugi.

Martini tossed his cards into the muck and headed to the rail.

The second draw Daly drew one and Becker stood pat and fired once again. He was called by Daly.

The third and final draw saw Daly take one card and Becker stood pat. This time, however, it was Daly who fired out a bet and Becker called. Becker was shown the bad news as Daly tabled {5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}{a-} for a nut wheel and was awarded the pot.

With 38 players now remaining, each player will receive a minimum cash of $4,097 when they bust out of the tournament.
