Antonius One of the Bigger Stacks Coming into Day 2 of the Triton Super High Roller Montenegro Main Event

Patrik Antonius is returning as one of the larger stacks
Patrik Antonius is returning as one of the larger stacks

The penultimate day of the HK$1,000,000 Triton Super High Roller Series 2018 Montenegro Main Event is set to start at 1pm CET. So far 27 of the 39 Day 1 entrants are still in action at the dawn of Day 2, but with registration open until the end of level 11, at 5pm local time this figure could well increase.

The list of returning players reads like the who's who of the international High Roller poker scene. Big stacks and notables returning in the top 10 include Patrik Antonius (576,000), Mikita Badziakouski (569,000), Stephen Chidwick, ( 526,500), Julian Thomas (505,000), Dietrich Fast (451,500), Rui Cao (420,000) and Steffen Sontheimer (387,000).

However, the man returning with the chip lead is Malaysia's Wai Leong Chan who enjoyed a great day at the tables on the opening flight, winning the majority of his chips from Koray Aldermir to return with a stack of 778,500.

Aldemir is still in the running however, after re-entering and will be coming back with a stack of 336,000. Defending champion Manig Loeser will be returning with a stack of 264,000. Bryn Kenney is coming back with 247,000, while Phil Ivey made it through to Day 2 with 186,500.

Among those to bust and not re-enter just yet are 6-Max champion Richard Yong, Romain Arnaud, Gabe Patgorski, Mikhail Smirnov and Dan "Jungleman" Cates.

Both Yong and Cates are expected to re-enter the competition on Day 2. Since Day 1 was shortened by two levels, the registration period upon restart remains open for the first four levels and break.

The penultimate tournament day is scheduled to play down to the final table and the action recommences at level eight with blinds of 2,500/5,000 and a running ante of 500, giving all new additions to the field 50 big blinds when the cards get back in the air.

As usual, the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to bring you all the action as it happens so watch this space as we see who’s got what it takes to successfully traverse the road to the final table.

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Day 2 is now underway and the cards are in motion. This can be found via the 'Live Stream' tab at the top of the page.

Phua Busts to Christner

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

On the heads-up turn of {9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, Paul Phua check-raised all in out of the big blind and initial raiser Christian Christner called in the cutoff after having bet 31,000 into a pot of 40,000.

Paul Phua: {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Christian Christner: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

The {7-Spades} on the river was a blank and Phua said he was going to re-enter soon. "If I raise the flop, do you call?" he asked Christner on the way out and the German shook his head.

A New Entry and a Re-Entry

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

As predicted it didn't take long for Paul Phua to jump back in and just prior to that, Lim Chin Wei had also taken a seat for the first time in the event to make it 41 entries in total. Richard Yong and Tom Dwan were spotted in the tournament area, but haven't registered yet.

Loeser Busts Kaplan

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jaime Kaplan
Jaime Kaplan

Wai Kin Yong opened the action with a raise to 12,000 and was called by Manig Loeser in the cutoff and Jamie Kaplan in the big blind. On the {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop, Kaplan checked and Yong continued for 22,000. Loeser called and Kaplan then check-raised all in.

While Yong just stared at the 30 second shot clock and elected to fold without asking for a count, Loeser did so and the shove was determined to be for 132,000. Loeser called and the cards were turned over.

Jamie Kaplan: {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Manig Loeser: {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}

The {A-Diamonds} turn improved Loeser to a straight and he needed to dodge hearts in order to avoid a setback for more than half of his stack. The {9-Diamonds} on the river was indeed a blank and Kaplan was eliminated for now.

Second Bullet for Nitsche

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Dominik Nitsche was sent to the rail by Manig Loeser when his ace-jack could not get there to beat the pocket jacks of the defending Triton Super High Roller Series Montenegro Main Event and headed straight to the cashier to re-enter for bullet number two.

Devan Tang avoided that necessity for now after doubling through Marius Torbergsen. Tang had shoved on the button for his last 72,000 with the {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Torbergsen called in the big blind with {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The board came {Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Tang remained in contention.

Kenney Jams Into Yong

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Koray Aldemir raised to 11,000 and was called by Paul Phua in the big blind. On the {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, Phua check-raised from 8,000 to 21,000 and Aldemir called. Phua then bet the {A-Clubs} turn for 40,000 to receive a call before making it 105,000 to go on the {8-Spades} river. Aldemir folded with a "flush draw?" and Phua grinned back "you had a flush draw, I had a six."

On the same table, Christian Christner has enjoyed a decent start into the day and bumped up his stack nicely.

One table over, Wai Kin Yong made it 12,000 to go from the cutoff and Bryn Kenney three-bet to 40,000 in the big blind. Yong called and did so for 46,500 on the {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Spades} flop before Kenney emptied the clip by moving all in for 165,000 on the {7-Diamonds} turn. YOng let his shot clock run down to two seconds before folding.

Kisacikoglu Doubles Through Fast

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

The {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} of Dietrich Fast were all but mucked while the stack of Orpen Kisacikoglu was counted, after the High Roller regular from Turkey had doubled with {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for the nut flush on a board of {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The double was for 216,500 and that essentially halved the stack of Fast.

One hand later, Kisacikoglu raised to 12,000 and Koray Aldemir moved all in from the button. Mikita Badziakouski asked for a count and let go when it was deemed to be for 135,500, Kisacikoglu folded as well.
