Farrell Falls

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Niall Farrell has just been eliminated and the man who did the deed, Mohammed Zahour, delighted in the retelling. Although some details appeared to be a bit fuzzy we’ll take his word as helped by the corrections from other players.

Zahour raised from under the gun and called a shove from Farrell.

Zahour had {q-}{q-} while Farrell had {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

The flop was good for Farrell as {7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} brought a flush draw but the {q-} on the turn had him drawing dead as a {4-} completed the board.

Protect Your Cards

Nível 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

The floor was called as some cards had got mixed up during the deal when one player assumed incorrectly that one of the dealt cards was meant for him. Consequently one player in the small blind only had one card. The players assumed that it was a misdeal but the dealer called the floor.

The floor explained that it was not a misdeal. The players who didn’t have legitimate hands were mucked but the valid hands could play out the hand. It wasn’t arguably directly the fault of the player in the small blind but he had to surrender his cards and the chips.

The golden rule is to protect your hand. Even as it is being dealt to you, pay attention and secure your cards and speak up if you see something wrong. Most of the time nothing untoward happens, but it does happen from time to time and it was explained it is the player’s responsibility.

The players accepted the ruling but the debate rumbled on for a while.

Dinner Plans

Nível 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

You spend your dinner break going over different spots you’ve faced in the previous six levels, mulling over what you did right or wrong. But now you have a shoving stack and all you want is a decent spot to get it in, double up and get back on track.

Darren Nelson shoved over a raise and a call. Behind him Mihaita Croitoru, a PokerStars qualifier from Romania, moved all in too and the other players folded.

Nelson had {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Croitoru {j-Spades}{j-Spades}.

Nelson remained in his seat until the final card had been dealt. Whether in hope or resignation it was hard to tell. The cards fell {3-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Close but no good as Nelson was eliminated.

Mojave Doesn’t Like River

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Felipe ‘Mojave’ Ramos was staring at a board of {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

His opponent, Tony Blanchandin, had bet 10,000 which was close to pot sized. The dilemma for Ramos seemed to be that he had a good hand but only 22,000 left in his stack.

Ramos tried to get a read off his opponent but Blanchandin was calmly riffling his chips. About 5 minutes went by before chuckled to himself as he folded his cards to fight on another hand.
