The player under the gun raised and Igor Kurganov on the button three-bet to 3,900. Daniel Koop in the small blind cold called, the big blind folded and the initial raiser called.
Both Koop and the initial raiser checked on before Kurganov bet 4,400. Koop check-raised to 13,000 with 19,200 behind. The initial raiser tanked for some time but eventually folded. Kurganov moved in and Koop needed about four minutes before deciding to fold.

Christoph Vogelsang, Claudia Woslki and Thomas Taylor managed to get all of their chips in the middle before the flop.
Vogelsang had both of his opponents covered, while Taylor had 17,000 and Wolski had 22,000.
The flop came , giving Woslki top set and leaving Vogelsang with a gutshot, while Taylor was drawing very slim with backdoor outs to stay alive. Vogelsang exclaimed, "How does the queen come?!"
The turn was the , and the river was the , giving Vogelsang the card he needed to make a straight, sending Taylor and Wolski home.
As Vogelsang raked in the chips he had a big smile on his face and said, "Never in my life have I hit such a hand."

Morris Dadoun was moved to Daniel Negreanu's table and all of the players seem to be having a blast. Negreanu even gave him a shout out on Twitter:
Playing with an 84 year old who won a charity tourney in Toronto to qualify for #PCSBahamas.… https://t.co/t2oxgou5SC
— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker)
On a board reading , with about 5,000 in the pot, Negreanu led out for 3,000.
Bradley Snider was in middle position and called. Dadoun was in the cutoff and raised it up to 7,000. Negreanu called, as did Snider.
The river was the . Negreanu and Snider both checked to Dadoun who also checked back. He immediately tabled for a straight to the nine and his opponents both mucked their hands.
As Dadoun raked in the pot Negreanu asked Snider, "Did you have big diamonds? I had diamonds." Snider responded, "That makes sense."

We've lost some big names late on here, and there aren't too many bigger than Dan Shak. The master of several High Roller tournaments, who often gravitates towards the bigger buy-in, will have another chance at a big win tomorrow but won't be going any further in the $5,300 Main Event.
Elsewhere on Day 1a, Charlie Carrel has been up and down since finishing second in the $100,000 Super High Roller tournament, but he is currently a little down from his starting stack on around 25,000.
Finally, Finland's Jorma Nuutinen got the better of Corey Hochman in a three-bet pot where the Finn was the preflop aggressor. Hochman called from 1500 to 4,600 to see a flop of but couldn't continue when Nuutinen c-bet 3600. With 45,0000, Nuutinen looks to be building momentum ahead of the final level of the night.

Nick Petrangelo raised to 1,500 from middle position and Kazakhstan's Ayan Kuchukov three-bet all in for just 5,100 from the hijack. Action folded back to Petraneglo, and he wasted little time in making the call.
Petrangelo:
Kuchukov:
Kuchukov was ahead, but not after the flop came down to pair Petrangelo. Fortunately for Kuchukov, the spiked on the turn to give him back the lead. The river was safe for Kuchukov, and he shipped the double.
Despite losing that pot, Petrangelo is up considerably from the last time we check in on him.

Canada's James Martyn raised to 1,400 from the cutoff only to have Andrey Zaichenko three-bet to 4,500 from the button. The blinds both folded and Martyn pushed back with a four-bet to 13,500. Not to be outdone, Zaichenko five-bet all in. He soon regretted it as Martyn snap-called off for 46,500 total.
Zaichenko:
Martyn:
The flop paired Zaichenko, but he needed either another ten or a king to eliminate his opponent. That didn't happen though as instead the blanked on the turn followed by the on the river.

David Peters may be the Global Poker Index number one from 2016, but it is a brand new year and his number one spot is there to be taken by anyone. Cristian-Andrei Folescu and Peters were already at the turn of what was clearly a big pot by the time we arrived to see the board showing .
When the 28,000 in the pot was added to by a sensational all-in to the tune of 75,200 by Folescu, Peters was put to the ultimate test - his entire remaining stack of 55,000. What would be a chip-leading pot if Peters called turned out not to be, as the American let the hand go, but that gives Folescu around 100,000 going into the final level of the day.

Charlie Carrel, who just a couple hours ago finished runner-up in the $100K Super High Roller, was eliminated from the Main Event in unknown action. While Carrel was lost, he was replaced by the man who beat him earlier, Jason Koon. Also joining the field in the last level of the night is Isaac Haxton.
