Sam Greenwood Leads the Final 12 in the partypoker MILLIONS Main Event

Nível 29 : 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante

The action has come to an end on Day 4 of the $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event at the 2017 Caribbean Poker Party Festival. Canadian poker pro, Sam Greenwood will lead the final 12 players into the fifth and final day with a commanding chip lead of 193,900,000.

Greenwood played a monster pot on the last hand of the night against previous chip leader, Preben Stokkan. He made the nut flush on the turn with {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and the board reading {10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Greenwood was all in for 64.5 million on the river and Stokkan paid him off, setting Greenwood up for another final table.

This is the third event Greenwood has played here at the Melia Caribe Tropical resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and it's setting up to be his third final table. Greenwood finished third place in the $10,300 High Roller event for $124,100 and improved with a second-place finish in the $25,500 Super High Roller for $242,750. Improving one more spot is Greenwood's only goal, as he could cap off an excellent series with a $1,000,000 payday.

Following in Greenwood's footsteps is Jonas Gjelstad (117,700,000) from Norway who found himself all in with his tournament life on the line holding ace-king against Damian Lomza's pocket kings. Gjelstad not only hit one, but two aces to score a massive double up and sit in second place. It won't all be smooth sailing for the chip leaders though, as Stokkan (99,000,000) and partypoker's Jason Koon (93,800,000) are sitting within striking distance and will be looking to close the gap when the day begins.

Today started with 43 players returning to the felt and it was Michael Zhang holding the chip lead. Unfortunately for him, nothing could go his way and he quickly spiralled out of contention, finishing in 23rd place for $34,000. Other notables that hit the rail throughout the day include Charlie Godwin (19th place - $34,000), partypoker Chairman, Mike Sexton (24th place - $34,000), Maria Ho (25th place - $34,000), and Ismael Bojang (39th place - $27,500).

The final ten players will reconvene inside the convention centre tomorrow at 12:00 P.M. local time. They will play down to the final table of eight, which will restart around 4:00 P.M. The final table will be live-streamed with a 30-minute delay and the PokerNews coverage will coincide with the stream. The blinds will continue at 1,200,000/2,400,000 with a button ante of 2,400,000 and the levels will be increased to 90-minutes in length.

After Pavel Gonchakov lost a big flip with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} versus Sam Greenwood's {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, he found himself with just 3,000,000 chips. They all went in the very next hand with {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} but, unfortunately for Gonchakov, he ran into Andrey Shatilov with {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

The {9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades} runout offered no salvation, with Gonchakov leaving the feature table to collect his 13th place prize money.

After action folded around to Josafat Cruz in the hijack, he moved all in for his last 21,000,000, and was called by Jiri Horak on the button. Both blinds folded and the cards were on their backs.

Cruz's {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} had three out versus Horak's {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} but found no help on the {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{3-Spades} runout, and left the tournament area in 14th.

Preben Stokkan raised to 3.4 million from under the gun with {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and was called by Pavel Gonchakov in the hijack with {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Graham Ivany was in the big blind and shoved all in for 31 million with {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. Stokkan shoved all in over the top and Gonchakov got out of the way.

The board ran out {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} and Stokkan's pocket queens held up to eliminate Ivany in 15th place.

On the feature table, Preben Stokkan raised pre-flop to 3,000,000 before Shyngis Satubayev 3-bet shoved for his remaining 32,000,000. After confirming the total amount with the dealer, Stokkan made the call and the cards were on their backs.

Satubayev needed help, with his {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} trailing behind Stokkan's {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Said help failed to arrive on the {2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} runout, and Satubayev left the tournament area in 16th place.

Charlie Godwin shipped all in for her last 11.3 million in middle position and was called by Graham Ivany in the cutoff. Godwin turned over {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} but was dominated by Ivany's {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}.

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Spades} and Gowin was unable to come from behind. She put up a strong fight and was the last lady standing, but her tournament life has come to an end in 19th place.

Quenneville Falls Short of Another Repeat Performance

Nível 27 : 600,000/1,200,000, 1,200,000 ante
Troy Quenneville
Troy Quenneville

The action folded around to Jason Koon on the button who raised to 2.8 million. Troy Quenneville was in the small blind and three-bet to 8.8 million. The big blind folded and Koon stuck in a pile of T5,000,000 chips, enough to Quenneville's stack. Quenneville took a look at the tournament clock and then called.

Jason Koon: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Troy Quenneville: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Koon's pocket fives held on to eliminate Quenneville. Last year at this same event, Quenneville made a deep run all the way to second place, along with winning the $2,500 side event as well. He has had plenty of deep runs in Punta Cana, but this one fell a little bit short.

Action in the feature table folded around to short-stacked Maria Ho in the cutoff, who shoved for her last 8,900,000. She ran into partypoker sponsored pro Jason Koon, who re-shoved from the small blind. With the big blind quickly folding, the cards were on their backs.

Ho had live cards with {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} versus Koon's {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}, but needed a lot of help after the dealer spread a {k-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Spades} flop. It was all over on the {2-Spades} turn, with the {6-Hearts} river completing the runout as Ho left the tournament and headed to the payout desk.

Mike Sexton Eliminated

Mike Sexton had been sitting on one of the shorter stacks for much of the day and finally found a spot to get all of his 14.6 million chips in the middle. Unfortunately for him, he was called by Damian Lomza with one of the hands he didn't want to see. Sexton showed {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} but was dominated by Lomza's {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

The flop came {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Sexton was left drawing slim after Lomza hit a pair of queens. The turn was the {6-Hearts} and Sexton was left drawing dead to the {5-Clubs} on the river.

Maria Ho Saved by a King

Nível 24 : 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Maria Ho
Maria Ho

Maria Ho shipped all in for 6.75 million from the hijack and Josef Snejberg called from the big blind. Ho tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and was dominating Snejberg's {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. The dealer fanned the flop with the {8-Spades} in the window but was quickly followed by the {k-Diamonds} and the {3-Hearts}.

The {6-Clubs} on the turn and the {q-Clubs} on the river changed nothing, and Ho's pair of kings secured her a double up through Snejberg.
