Aussie Millions Champion Ami Barer Leads Final 21 Into Day 3

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Ami Barer

Day 2 of the massive European Poker Tour Barcelona €10,300 High Roller has come to a close. Just 21 players remain in the event, which means play could take quite some time on Day 3 to crown a winner. No matter how long it takes, though, tomorrow will see someone walk away a champion and €747,200 richer.

Leading the survivors at the end of the night was Ami Barer, winner of the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event back in January. Barer just outdid Ismail Erkenov at the end of the night thanks to an added boost from busting Benny Spindler in the final hand. He'll take 1.953 million into Day 3, while Erkenov bagged up 1.92 million.

Plenty of other notables are remaining in the field, including one Team PokerStars Pro and one PokerStars Team Online member. Jason Mercier is that of the former, and he finished with 888,000. Marc-Andre Ladouceur is that of the latter, and while he may be predominantly an online player, he was able to bag up 909,000 in this major live event.

Then there's Stephen Chidwick (1.491 million), Dario Sammartino (1.031 million), Alexander Roumeliotis (790,000), Vladimir Troyanovskiy (554,000), Nicolas Chouity (545,000), Juha Helppi (472,000), Dylan Linde (400,000), and Angel Guillen (269,000). Needless to say, the final day won't be lacking any firepower.

Day 3 will commence at 12 p.m. local time, and you can find the starting seat draw below:

Spindler Won't Be Getting Another High Roller Title Just Yet

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Benny Spindler
Benny Spindler

Benny Spindler, winner of European Poker Tour high roller events in Sanremo and Tallinn, won't be getting a third high roller title in this event as he was just eliminated short of making Day 3, falling in 22nd place.

After Ami Barer raised to 40,000 from under the gun, Spindler three-bet shoved for approximately 180,000 from the cutoff seat. Play folded back to Barer, and he quickly called after getting an eyeball of Spindler's stack.

Barer had the {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, and Spindler the {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

The flop hit Barer better than it did Spindler when the {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} fell. The turn was the {K-Clubs}, and that left Spindler down to just one final card to hit either an ace or a nine. When the {J-Spades} was put out on fifth street, Spindler knew he was done for and made his way to the exit. Barer stacked up the new chips and just might be the end-of-day chip leader because of it.

Chidwick Surges Into the Lead; Behbehani Eliminated

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Stephen Chidwick just won two big pots back to back that saw him surge into the chip lead with 1.15 million in chips. In the process, Salman Behbehani was eliminated and Nicolas Chouity lost a big chunk of chips. Here's how it all happened:

First, Behbehani opened from the button and then four-bet jammed for a little over 400,000 against Chidwick, who had three-bet from the big blind. Chidwick had a big one, though, and called off his stack with the {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Behbehani had the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

"Good luck," said Behbehani to Chidwick, who said thanks with a straight face.

"You're going to need it!" Behbehani added, which caused Chidwick to crack a smile.

The board ran out {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, and Behbehani was crushed, knocked all the way down to just 12,000 in chips while Chidwick soared to nearly 900,000.

Then on the next hand, Behbehani was all in from the cutoff seat for his last 10,000 after posting the ante. Chidwick called from the small blind, and Chouity checked his option in the big blind.

The flop came {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, and Chidwick bet 16,000. Chouity called, and the turn was the {7-Spades}. Chidwick bet again and made it 33,000 to go. Chouity put in a raise to 76,000, and Chidwick called. It was at this point that Behbehani looked over to Jason Mercier and acknowledged that he was about to be eliminated.

Mercier stood up from his table and wandered over just in time to see the {3-Spades} land on the river as Chidwick and Chouity still had action pending. Behbehani shook the hand of his neighbor at the table, Benjamin Pollak, and then stood up from his seat just as Chidwick checked and the action fell on Chouity.

"Give me my money!" he joked with the tournament staff watching the action. Behbehani then began to wander around the rest of the tournament area, but the staff retrieved him to let him know he had to wait by the table so he didn't give off any information and to turn his hand over. Needless to say, it was clear Behbehani wasn't winning this pot.

Chouity bet 125,000 on the river, and Chidwick tank-called. Chouity shrugged and tabled the {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for just a pair of sevens, and Chidwick showed the winner with the {A-Spades}{7-Hearts}.

"This would be an epic slow roll," said Dylan Linde from across the table, but alas Behbehani's {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts} wasn't going to win anything in this pot.

In the end, Behbehani was eliminated, Chouity was knocked down to 400,000 in chips, and Chidwick climbed all the way up to the chip lead.

Mickey Petersen Eliminated

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Mickey Petersen
Mickey Petersen

Mickey Petersen was crippled ever since that big flush versus full house hand, and it was Ismail Erkenov who would finish the job as well.

Petersen open shoved for his last 90,000, and Erkenov in the big blind had to do nothing more than say call from the big blind.

Petersen: {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Erkenov: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

"Never easy" is what people sometimes say, but this time around, things didn't turn out to be all that hard for Erkenov: {9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}.

Those Broken Records In Full

Nível 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

As you may have heard a few times this week, it has been a record-breaking time in Barcelona. In fact, it's probably the case that the event has broken the record for the most number of times that it was mentioned that a record has been broken.

Broken record?

Change the record, is more like.

PokerStars Blog drags it out for one last post.

Bubble Bursts: Dong Kim Eliminated

Dong Kim bubbles the PokerStars EPT Barcelona High Roller 2014
Dong Kim bubbles the PokerStars EPT Barcelona High Roller 2014

After three players doubled on the bubble, amongst them Dan Smith and Jacob Ohlund, Dong Kim wasn't going to get so lucky.

Ami Barer opened to 20,000, and Vladimir Troyanovskiy made the call. Dong Kim squeezed all in from the blinds for 73,000, and Barer made the call. Troyanovskiy folded and the cards would soon go on their backs.

Ami Barer: {K-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Dong Kim: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The {3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop was still pretty save, but the {K-Diamonds} on the turn was anything but that for Kim. The {5-Hearts} fell on the turn and the tournament lost its 56th place finisher with Dong Kim.

The remaining 55 players are guaranteed €18,900.

Helppi and Holz Get Into It

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Action folded to Fedor Holz on the button, and he raised to 20,000. Juha Helppi called from the big blind, and the flop came down {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Both players checked, and then they also checked the {6-Hearts} that paired the board on the turn.

The {5-Hearts} completed the board on the river, and Helppi led with a bet of 20,000. Holz put in a raise to 66,000, but Helppi fired right back with a reraise to 120,000. Holz went into the tank and looked a bit confused by the reraise from Helppi. He eventually began mumbling hands out loud that Helppi could possibly have.

"Three-four suited? Ace-six? Six-seven?" he said quietly while thinking.

Eventually, Holz made the call.

Helppi did hold one of the hands Holz had thought about — {7-Spades}{6-Spades} — and he was going to win the pot. Holz showed just the {6-Clubs} from his hand, then mucked the other card.

Big Bluff Fails; Vieira Doubles Sowa in Monster Pot

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Gereon Sowa - Joao Vieira
Gereon Sowa - Joao Vieira

Most of the action was missed, as we arrived to the table on the river, but Dylan Linde was kind enough to walk us through the action.

Joao Vieira had opened under the gun to 16,000, and Gereon Sowa was the sole caller in the big blind.

On the {8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop, it was Sowa who checked to Vieira, and the Portuguese man made a continuation bet worth 21,000. Sowa check-raised to 60,000, and Vieira made the call.

The {7-Hearts} on the turn made both players check, and then came the river.

The {6-Clubs} fell, and Sowa bet 105,000, and Vieira took his time to decide what to do. Eventually, Vieira grabbed 240,000 in chips, put that on a 100,000 stack worth of 5,000 chips, and slid the entire tower worth 340,000 forward.

Sowa wasn't really happy, but you could tell he wasn't really ready to let go of his hand either. After some thinking, he made the call, and it was clear Vieira was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Vieira showed the {A-Clubs}{8-Spades}, but that was no match for Sowa's {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.
