Birnbaum's First-Ever EPT Main Event Comes to an End

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Nancy Birnbaum
Nancy Birnbaum

Yesterday we told you the story of American poker pro Nancy Birnbaum, who was playing in her first-ever EPT Main Event.

Birnbaum did well on Day 1b, but her journey took a turn for the worst on Day 2 as she only seemed to dwindle over the course of the last three levels.

We missed her elimination, but she was kind enough to fill us in on the details. According to her, she was down to just six big blinds when she got it in holding {3-}{3-} against the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} of an opponent. It was a flip, but the coin did not come down in Birnbaum's favor as the flop contained a king.

No three would appear, and Birnbaum was left no recourse but to go enjoy the city.

Banicevic Four-Bets De Meulder

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder has lost a little ground, but still has more than 100,000 chips.

Vlado Banicevic raised to 3,500 and the cutoff called. Matthias De Meulder squeezed to 9,300 from the button, only to face a four-bet to 18,700 from Banicevic. The cutoff folded, as did De Meulder.

De Meulder's fellow Team Pro, Johnny Lodden, is also at the table and has 51,000 chips.

George Danzer Eliminated In Interesting Hand

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
George Danzer
George Danzer

George Danzer opened for 3,400 from under the gun plus one and Boghean Andrei Lucian on the button made the call. The big blind came along for the ride and the three of them took a flop of {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}. The big blind checked and Danzer checked as well. Lucian made a bet of 6,100 which made the big blind fold almost instantly. Danzer wasn't so willing to let go of his hand and even raised, making it 14,000. Lucian called in position.

The {K-Hearts} fell on the turn and Danzer shoved all in for 26,100. The camera's, who seconds ago were trying to catch Vanessa Selbst's bust out (post to follow), swooped one table over and closed in on the action. Focus on Danzer moving in, switch to Lucian who now had the decision. The camera's were buzzing, all attention was on Lucian.

The man from Romania eventually tossed in a chip to call. Danzer showed top set with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Lucian tabled {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a turned flush draw on top of his flopped gutshot.

The dealer didn't waste any time burning a card and placing the {8-Spades} on the river. With hanging shoulders Danzer made his exit. Boghean Andrei Lucian started stacking, he's up to almost 120,000 now.

Bartos' Day is Done

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Martin Bartos shoved all in for 11,300 from early position and picked up a caller in Frans Claesson in the cutoff. The button and blinds all folded and the cards were turned on their back.

Claesson: {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Bartos: {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Bartos was behind, but at least he was drawing to two live cards. The {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop was dry, and the {2-Hearts} turn meant Bartos needed to find either a queen or a jack on the river to stay alive. That didn't happen though as the {2-Spades} paired the board.

Former PCA Champ Picks the Wrong Spot to Shove

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Action folded to 2013 PCA champ Dimitar Danchev, who sits in the top spot on the all-time Bulgaria money list, and he shoved all in from the small blind for 17,500. Zoltan Szabo, who didn't have much more than that, looked down at his cards in the big and must have liked what he saw as he made the call.

Danchev: {7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Szabo: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Danchev seemed upset with himself for shoving with such a weak hand and to find himself dominated. He paid the price for it too after the board ran out an unhelpful {8-Spades}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

"Good luck guys," Danchev offered before heading for the door.

Chartier Continues to Climb

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Sam Chartier is rapidly approaching 400,000 chips and looks to be the tournament's chip leader.

Chartier raised to 3,600 from late position and everyone who was left to act folded. The next hand, Chartier raised the same amount, but this time Andreas Berggren called from the big blind. Berggren then check-folded to a 3,200 bet on the {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop.

At the opposite side of the room, Gleb Tremzin has been busy adding to his stack and is now armed with 320,000 chips.

Moneymaker Wins Some Off Reard

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Alexander Reard made it 3,500 from the hijack and action folded to Chris Moneymaker in the big blind. The man, who according to Google was responsible for some sort of boom a couple of years ago, three bet to 10,500. Reard made the call in position.

The flop came {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and Moneymaker bet 9,000. Reard called and the two of them saw a turn: {2-Diamonds}. Moneymaker checked, and called Reard's 17,700 bet. The river came the {8-Hearts} with both players having big stacks behind.

Moneymaker checked again. Reard thought about it for a bit, but decided to check behind eventually.

Moneymaker showed {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}, Reard mucked quietly.

High Rollers Mateos and Hajiyev Are Looking Good

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Ramin Hajiyev

It was late last night when Jean-Noel Thorel and Rainer Kempe battled it out heads up in the €25,500 Single-Day High Roller, but it wasn't much earlier for the third and fourth place finishers, Adrian Mateos and Ramin Hajiyev. The two high rollers however are having a good day so far, with stacks far above the current average.

"I couldn't sleep last night," Hajiyev told us when we went to check up on him, "I just had so much adrenaline from the final table."

Hajiyev finished third for €250,900, and today he came back to the Main Event with 55,000 chips.

"I got some presents today," Hajiyev said with a smile, "Christmas presents."

The man from Azerbaijan said, as he's currently sitting on 162,000 chips.

A few tables over we caught Mateos enjoying a massage, and the fourth-place finisher from last night's quietly building a stack as well, having 182,000 out in front of him.
