Ali Imsirovic Busts WSOP $250K Super High Roller on Brutal Cooler

Cheating allegations haven't kept Ali Imsirovic away from the 2022 World Series of Poker, but an unfortunate river card on Thursday night sent him packing in Event #50: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em.

Imsirovic wasn't the only accused cheater to compete in the six-figure buy-in tournament. Jake Schindler and Bryn Kenney also came ready to compete for a shot at winning millions of dollars and a gold bracelet.

An early position player opened and a middle position player three-bet to 5,300. The hijack called, the button called, and Ben Palmer jammed for 46,300 in the small blind. Only the middle position player called for their stack of approximately 30,000.

Speiser Nails River

A player opened to 1,600 from under the gun and action folded to Hannes Speiser in the cutoff who called.

The flop came and the preflop raiser continued for 2,200. Speiser called to send the two players to the turn.

On the turn the under the gun player continued their aggression with a bet of 4,400. Speiser, undeterred, made the call.

The under the gun player slowed down on the river, checking to Speiser who fired off 12,500. His opponent responded by raising enough to put Speiser all in. After thinking for a short period of time, Speiser called. The under the gun player turned over for top pair but it was not good enough as Speiser revealed he held for the rivered set.

It's not a matter if, but when will Phil Ivey become just the second player ever to win that elusive 11th World Series of Poker gold bracelet. Perhaps, he's just a day away, especially if he continues to dominate Event #50: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em.

Ivey's been stuck on 10 since 2014, tied for second with Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson. He still has his work cut out for him to catch Phil Hellmuth, who holds the record with 16 WSOP titles. But it's clear now that he's as focused now to win bracelets as was in the 2000s.

With roughly 40,000 in the pot on a board, Bin Weng checked the big blind, Daniel Rezaei bet 4,500 on the button, and Weng called.

"Quads," Rezaei announced as he flipped over for a piece of almost all of the board, and he added the chips to his stack.

Obara Picks Off Bluff

Jun Obara opened to 1,800 from late position and was called by Jeff Platt in the small blind as well as the player in the big blind.

All three players checked through the flop to the turn at which point Platt led out for 2,000. That got the big blind player to fold but Obara, unconvinced, called.

Platt fired off a second barrel, this time pushing a meatier 11,000 into the middle, on the river. Obara clearly did not believe his opponent and made a quick call. "Jack and an eight, probably not great," rhymed Platt as he showed down for the missed flush draw. Great or not, it was not good enough to win the pot as Obara held for top pair.

On his second bullet — $500,000 invested in the tournament — he entered Day 2 with less than half his starting stack. But he quickly built it back up and appeared on track to make a run. And then he ran into one of his toughest hands in what has been a frustrating summer for the poker legend.

Vlada Stojanović opened to 2,000 from middle position and received a single caller in the form of Hannes Speiser out of the big blind.

Speiser check-called a continuation of 1,500 from Stojanović on a flop of .

Action then checked through the turn to the river where Speiser took over the betting lead by leading out for 1,500. Stojanović quickly called and was shown by Speiser for a pair of kings. Stojanović too held a king but his holding gave him the superior kicker and the pot.
