Gorodinsky Leads at the End of Day 1

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Mike Gorodinsky
Mike Gorodinsky

Day 1 of Event #9: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship attracted a starting field of 154 entries, creating a staggering prize pool of $1,447,600. After 10 levels of play, only 64 players remain in hopes of capturing the first-place prize of $388,795 and a prestigious World Series of Poker bracelet.

Leading the way with 304,000 in chips is none other than 2015 WSOP Player of the Year Mike Gorodinsky. Gorodinsky is a professional poker player from San Diego, California. He has two World Series of Poker bracelets in his career. His first bracelet came in 2013 with the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low event and the second came in 2015 when he won the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

Nipping at Gorodinsky's heals is Kyle Miaso with 302,000 in chips — the only other player over the 300,000 chip mark. Not far behind Miaso are Ilya Dyment with 240,000, Dan Shak with 233,000, Iraj Parvizi with 230,000, and the biggest name in poker, Daniel Negreanu with 224,500.

Throughout the day some of the most talented poker players on the planet took a shot at this title and didn't make it through. Todd Brunson, Erik Seidel, David Benyamine, Phil Hellmuth, Nick Schulman, Jason Mercier, Allen Kessler, Shaun Deeb, Phil Galfond, Ben Yu, Ismael Bojang, Jon Turner, Brandon Shack-Harris, Bart Hanson and Valentin Vornicu all fell by the wayside.

Monday is sure to be action-packed with other big names still in contention, including Marco Johnson, David "ODB" Baker, Esther Taylor, Fabric Soulier, Randy Ohel, Anthony Zinno, Mike Matusow, Jeff Lisandro and defending champion Benny Glaser.

Play will begin at 2 p.m. Monday with another 10 levels, and the finale will be reached on Tuesday with the remaining competitors playing down to a winner.

All-Time WSOP Bracelet Leader Joins the Stacked Field

Nível 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth needs no real introduction. The fourteen-time bracelet winner — who has over 100 cashes in WSOP events, over $13 million dollars in WSOP earnings, and is highly regarded as one of the best no-limit hold'em tournament players of his time — jumps into the action.

Hellmuth sat down right at the end of late registration, fresh off his 10th-place finish in the High Roller for One Drop tournament where he netted $312,006 for his efforts. He's anything but dull, known for his antics at times, but regardless, he is a legend and an ambassador of the game.

Hellmuth joins a table with some stiff opposition in the form of Nick Schulman, Christopher George, and Ilya Dymet, among others. Stay tuned to see how he progresses through the last two levels of the night.

Kate Hoang Makes her Presence Known

Nível 2 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Kate Hoang (as seen in previous event)
Kate Hoang (as seen in previous event)

Kate Hoang was in the cutoff and raised to 1,200. Erik Seidel was on the button and three-bet to 1,800. The small blind called, as did Hoang.

The flop was {j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and action checked to Seidel. He bet 600 and was called by both opponents.

The turn was the {q-Clubs} and again action checked to Seidel. He bet 1,200 and got two calls.

The river was the {10-Clubs} and action checked around.

Seat 2 showed {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and Hoang tabled {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Seidel's hand went into the muck and Hoang won the pot with two pairs.

Kate Hoang was the runner-up in last year's $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Split 8 or Better (Event #64) at the WSOP for a cash of $182,281. Watch for her throughout the day.

Event #9: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship Starts at 3 p.m.!

Benny Glaser
Benny Glaser

The first Omaha championship of the 2017 World Series of Poker will be underway in just a few short hours! This afternoon at 3 p.m., many of the most fearsome Omaha players in the world will take their seats in pursuit of WSOP gold in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship.

In this event, players will begin with 50,000 chips at 500/1,000 limits. Levels are 60 minutes each and there will be a 15-minute break every two levels. Players are scheduled to play 10 levels today, 10 more tomorrow, and will play down to a winner on Tuesday.

Last year, Benny Glaser won a historic victory in this event, taking home $407,194 and his third career bracelet. The victory earned him the distinction of "Brit with the most bracelets," and he became the first player ever to be presented with two bracelets in a single ceremony. Glaser shipped the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better event just days prior to winning this tournament, so there was no time for the first bracelet ceremony to be held before he took this one down, and the ceremonies were combined.
