Event #59: $2,500 Big Bet Mix

Dia 1 Começado

Players Ready for Inaugural $2,500 Big Bet Mix Bracelet Event

Chips & Cards
Chips & Cards

Ever since the 2017 World Series of Poker schedule was released, there has been one event that several of the top names have been eyeing. Mixed games regulars Naoya Kihara and Brian Rast immediately took to Twitter praising its inclusion, and six months later the wait is nearly over.

If you've been keeping an eye on Twitter over the course of the WSOP so far, you will have seen Dan Smith, 2017 bracelet winner Bryce Yockey, Brian Rast and Andrew Robl (to name a few) chiming in about the Big Bet Mix being spread at the cash tables here in Vegas, and now it is time for the tournament version to get underway.

We will have to wait and see whether these players can pull themselves away from the cash tables to play, but Brian Rast has already made it clear how excited he is to play this event, tweeting "The @WSOP is having the inaugural Big Bet Mix tournament tomorrow. This is awesome. I can't wait!"

As a brand new event, there is no defending champion, therefore it presents a unique opportunity for mixed games players to write their name into the history books as the inaugural Big Bet Mix champion.

Play gets underway at 3 p.m. local time, with the following games in the rotation, which changes every six hands: Big O, No-Limit Hold’em, No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw, Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, No-Limit 5-Card Draw High, Pot-Limit Omaha and Pot-Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw.

How Many Runners?

Nível 1 : 50/75, 25 ante

Jason Mercier has just entered the field.

"Jason Mercier," Daniel Negreanu said. "Good to see you."

"Yeah, I busted the 5K," Mercier said. "I had 110 bigs."

"How many runners do you think this will get?" Negreanu asked. "I set the line at 168."

"I hope they close registration now," Mercier said, to which Negreanu and James Chen at the next table over both laughed. "No, I think it'll get more than that."

Little Pot For Benny Glaser

Nível 1 : 50/75, 25 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

Benny Glaser has just taken his seat. In one of his first hands, he opened to 175 from the cutoff. Tuan Le defended from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and both players checked to see the {5-Diamonds} on the turn. Both players checked once more and the {K-Diamonds} came on the river.

Le checked a third time over to Glaser. Glaser fired 275 and Le called quickly. Glaser showed {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flush and he took down the pot when Le mucked.

Rules Clarification

Nível 1 : 50/75, 25 ante

Tournament officials have just announced a couple of rule clarifications:

  • In the pot-limit games, the antes will not count toward the size of the pot preflop. After the flop, the games are true pot-limit.
  • In single draw games, players must come in for a raise. This includes the small blind.

Bad Call for a Good Player

Nível 1 : 50/75, 25 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo

With a board of {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and bets of 550 from each player out in front from earlier streets, Daniel Negreanu was facing off against Ian O'Hara

On the river, Negreanu had made a bet of 300 and O'Hara made a big raise to 2,150.

"Boom or bust," Negreanu said. "If I thought you were a bad poker player I would throw this hand away. But I think you're a good poker player so I'm going to pay you off."

Eventually, Negreanu called.

"Boom," O'Hara said, showing {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a straight. It was good as Negreanu mucked and dropped the decently sized pot.

Vitch Finds a Third Ace

Nível 1 : 50/75, 25 ante

No-Limit 5 Card Draw

Action folded around to Chris Vitch in the small blind. He made it 250 and Daniel James called from the big blind. Vitch took three as did James.

Vitch then put out a bet of 550. James decided to call the bet but mucked when Vitch showed {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{8-Clubs} for trip aces.

"I think I needed a little bit better than just aces," Vitch said after the hand.
