Event #48: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

Dia 1 Começado

Welcome to Event #48: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship

2016 Champion George Danzer
2016 Champion George Danzer

Today marks the start of what is expected to be one of the most star-studded fields at this year's World Series of Poker, the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship.

That is if last year's final table is to go by! In 2016, George Danzer took down the title and $338,646 in prize money to achieve his fourth WSOP gold bracelet.

Such was the level of skill within the field, that eight of the final 10 players held prior WSOP titles. Danzer saw off the likes of David Benyamine, Justin Bonomo, David Grey, Eli Elezra, Scott Clements, Randy Ohel, and Todd Brunson to secure his fourth title.

"It was the craziest final table I’ve been to, that’s for sure,” Danzer said at the time.

Today, players will start with 50,000 in chips and will play 10 levels. Late registration will be open for eight levels (about 12 a.m.) with 15-minute breaks every two levels.

Early Pot for Mike Sexton

Nível 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Sexton: {x-}{x-} / {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades} / {x-}
Kessler: {x-}{x-} / {q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades} / {x-}
Belianin: {x-}{x-} / {2-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{a-Clubs} / {x-}

With action on sixth street, both Allen Kessler and Georgii Belianin checked to Mike Sexton who bet and got two callers. Both Kessler and Belianin checked on seventh street and Sexton bet again.

"Pretty certain that he has kings in the hole," said Kessler before calling. Belianin folded.

Sexton showed more than just kings in the hole, but trip kings {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} for kings full of eights. Kessler mucked.

Esther Taylor brought in and Jameson Painter completed. Taylor called. Painter check-called a bet on fourth street before Taylor took the lead and bet fifth street.

Taylor check-called on both sixth and seventh street and Painter showed {2-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs} for a flush and a seven-six low. Taylor mucked and Painter took down the pot.

Adam Friedman and Frank Kassela Chop it Up

Nível 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Suchanek: {x-}{x-} / {5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts} / {x-}
Kassela: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} / {x-}
Friedman: {x-}{x-} / {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts} / {x-}

Jan Suchanek checked on sixth street and Frank Kassela bet. Both Adam Friedman and Suchanek called. Suchanek checked again on sixth street and Kassela bet. Friedman called and Suchanek folded.

Kassela showed {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{a-Hearts} for a pair of threes and an eight-six low.

There was a slight pause before Friedman flipped {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades} over for a pair of queens.

"That was a slowroll, in my opinion," said Suchanek from the other end of the table.

"Not when it's for half the pot," replied Friedman, collecting in his bets.

"Yeah, I don't mind," said Kassela. "I mean, it's not like I thought my f***ing threes were good!"

Don't Poke The Bear

Nível 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Brandon Shack-Harris
Brandon Shack-Harris

Brandon Shack-Harris has shown up today with a hoodie that is styled to look like a real bear, but this is not something that's new for him. Last year, when Shack-Harris made the final table of Event #60: $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better, he wore a similar-looking outfit. Last year, though, he wore a polar bear, and the same costume has made appearances earlier in this series. Today, he's gone for a black bear.

It seems like it might be something that's lucky for him, though, as he just took a pot off Marcel Luske.

Shack-Harris: {x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs} / {x-}
Luske: {x-}{x-} / {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} / {x-}

Shack-Harris was the bring-in and Luske just called. On fourth, Shack-Harris checked to Luske. Luske bet and Shack-Harris raised. Luske called. Luske called another bet on fifth street, then both players checked down sixth and seventh.

"Two pair," Luske said.

Shack-Harris turned up his down cards of {A-}{3-}{5-} for a better two pairs, and that was good for him to take down the early pot.
