O'Connor Leads Stacked Field Entering Day 3 of Event #90: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship

AJ Kelsall
AJ Kelsall

Welcome to Day 3 of Event #90: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker. Jamie O'Connor enters as the current chip leader after amassing 2,545,000 in chips last night. Hot on his tail is AJ Kelsall (2,325,000), who was the only other person to bag over two million in chips.

Kelsall has nearly $1.8 million in World Series of Poker tournament earnings alone, including one bracelet and two circuit rings. Kelsall finished runner-up in Event #5: $1,500 Dealer's Choice (6-Handed) earlier this series and will surely be hungry to get another shot at the gold.

While O'Connor and Kelsall are the front-runners to make a serious run at the bracelet and $1,057,663 first-place prize, they will have plenty of poker talent to contend with. Among the 30 still left in the field are Eric Baldwin (380,000), Taylor Paur (695,000), Justin Liberto (1,355,000), Stephen Chidwick (1,615,000), and Phil Hellmuth (860,000), who will be playing for his unprecedented 18th gold bracelet.

Volkmann Puts Schwecht to the Test

Nível 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Bruno Volkmann opened to 70,000 on the button and was called by Tobias Schwecht in the big blind.

Schwecht checked following the 2J3 flop and then raised to 85,000 after Volkmann continued for 35,000. Volkmann made the call to send the action to the turn.

Both players checked through the J turn to the 5 river at which point Schwecht checked again. Volkmann responded by moving all in and was met by a snap-fold from Schwecht, who was left as the tournament short stack.

O'Connor Sends Obara to the Rail

Nível 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Jun Obara
Jun Obara

Jamie O'Connor opened to 50,000 on the button before Jun Obara moved the majority of his stack into the middle from the small blind, leaving himself just 40,000 behind. The big blind got out of the way to send the action back to O'Connor who raised all in. Obara quickly called off for his remaining chips.

Jun Obara: Q10
Jamie O'Connor: AJ

Obara was behind but not so much so that a comeback would constitute an especially bad beat for O'Connor. No help came for the at risk player, however, on the 25728 runout to send Obara to the rail early in the day.
