Day 1 of Event #52: $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball at the 2023 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas is set to start today, June 22nd, at 2 p.m.
In last year's edition of this event, Dominick Sarle overcame a 309-strong field to capture the $164,525 top prize and his first WSOP gold bracelet, denying Jerry Wong in heads-up play. Many of the mixed game fields this year have been significantly larger than their 2022 counterparts, so it is likely that it will also be the case with this event.
Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Dominick Sarle | USA | $164,243 |
2 | Jerry Wong | USA | $101,514 |
3 | Daniel Strelitz | USA | $67,820 |
4 | John Monnette | USA | $46,294 |
5 | Matthew Schreiber | USA | $32,033 |
6 | Alex Epstein | USA | $23,052 |
7 | Philip Eisman | USA | $16,833 |
The mixed triple draw lowball tournament features a rotation between three triple draw variants; 2-7 Triple Draw, A-5 Triple Draw and Badugi. All three games are played in limit betting format. While 2-7 and Badugi both have separate events dedicated entirely to those games, A-5 does not, meaning this is the primary opportunity for any skilled A-5 players to demonstrate their talent.
Day 1 begins at 2 p.m. and will continue for ten 60-minute levels. Players will get a 15-minute break every two levels and late registration will remain open until the end of Level 8 at around 11 p.m. local time. Anyone who ponies up the $2,500 buy-in receives 35,000 in tournament chips with blinds starting at 200/300 with limits of 300/600.

Jon Turner opened from under the gun and was called by Yufei Zhong in the big blind.
Zhong took three cards on the first draw while Turner drew two. Action then went check-check.
The second draw saw Zhong take one card to Tuner's two after which Zhong bet and was called.
Both players took one more card on the final draw. Zhong then bet and called after Turner raised. "Wheel" announced Turner as he tabled 5x4x3x2xAx for the nuts.

Badugi
Shortly after losing an A-5 pot to John Ma, Marcel Vonk clashed with Ma again in badugi.
Ma opened on the button with Vonk calling in the big blind.
Vonk took two on the first draw to Ma's one before check-raising a bet from his opponent. Ma responded with a reraise and Vonk called.
Both players took one on the second draw. Vonk then check-called a bet from Ma.
The final draw saw the same drawing pattern repeated with action going check-check. Ma turned over 10♣3♠2♥A♣ (three-card perfect Badugi) for a winner to take some more of Vonk's stack.

Badugi
Action was picked on the second draw with 3,000 in the center between George Wolff in the big blind and another player in the small blind.
The small blind drew one while Wolff stayed pat.
Wolff bet when the small blind checked to him and the small blind called while drawing one for the final draw, with Wolff staying pat.
The small blind checked to Wolff who bet and after some thought, the small blind let his hand go, ceding the pot to Wolff.
