Two in a Row for Seif

Nível 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Mark Seif
Mark Seif

After raking in a pot and showing 10x10x for a flopped set, Mark Seif wasted no time jumping back in the action.

Seif, in the big blind, called a raise to 5,000 from a player in late position. The flop came 6K2.

Seif checked, and the hijack fired again, for 10,000. Again, he called. A 4 on the turn was checked by both players.

The river fell a 3. Seif bet 45,000 and after a short think, the hijack folded.

The smell of cigar was in the air and sure enough Steven "Cuz" Buckner was in a hand.

The player in middle position raised to 1,500 and the small blind Steven Buckner and the big blind both called.

The flop came the 36K and everyone checked.

The turn was the 4 and Buckner bet 3,300 and the middle position player called.

The river was the 2 and Buckner pushed his stack in and was quickly called.

Middle Position Player: 55 for the straight.
Steven Buckner: K3 for the flush.

Buckner stated, "I just told this guy beside me that I was going to take that short stacked player out".

Elsewhere, Todd Hatch has been racking up some chips with 130,000 and at the same table Ricky Barraza is also sitting with a healthy stack of 72,000.

Quarto Having a Good Start

Nível 3 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante
Roslyn Quarto

The player under the gun limped and an early position player raised to 600. The hijack, Roslyn Quarto and the button came along for the ride.

The flop was 4Q7 and the early position player bet 2,000 and everyone called.

The turn was the 10 and, once checked to, Quarto bet out 13,000. The button player contemplated for a minute and it looked like he was about to go all-in but then just called and everyone else folded.

The river was the K and Quarto shoved her stack in, which was superior to the button's stack, and he called and attempted to muck once Quarto turned over her hand and showed the set. The button was forced to show his cards.

Button player: KJ
Roslyn Quarto: 44

An Early Plus For Nuss

Nível 3 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante
Bill Nuss
Bill Nuss

As reported from the table, shortly after returning from the break Bill Nuss was dealt pocket aces. Unfortunately he could get no takers.

But it didn't matter much as the very next hand, he was dealt AxAx again. He bet 1,200 and this time he found some callers. When the flop came AXX, he bet again and took down the hand.

It wasn't a huge pot but at least he got something for his rockets the second time around.

Eric Smidinger
Eric Smidinger

Welcome to Day 1a of Event #48: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship. A longtime fixture on the WSOP calendar, the Seniors Championship has grown in popularity and prestige over the years, so a large and competitive field is expected, as the minimum age requirement is only 50.

Last time out it was Eric Smidinger who prevailed from a field of 7,188 entries to scoop first place, a WSOP gold bracelet, and the small matter of $694,909 in prize money.

Day 1a begins at 10 a.m. and players will start with 20,000 chips. Levels are 60 minutes in duration and there will be 20-minute breaks after every two levels, plus an extended dinner break of 75 minutes after Level 8 (approximately 7 p.m.). In total there will be 11 levels of play today.

Late registration and one optional re-entry per flight will be available until the end of the dinner break at about 8:15 p.m.

A second starting flight following the exact same schedule, Day 1b, will take place tomorrow, Thursday, June 22, at 10 a.m. and as always, the last starting flight will be the biggest, so plan ahead!

Stay tuned to PokerNews for full coverage of the Seniors and all other events at the 2023 World Series of Poker.
