Nível 31 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Billy Baxter

There was no doubt about the big story on Day 3 of Event #48: $1,000 Seniors Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker.

Seven-time bracelet winner and Hall of Famer Billy Baxter quietly worked his way through the field and is firmly in contention with 29 players remaining in the tournament. Baxter will be keenly eyeing the $765,731 for first place, although he and all the other remaining players have $24,390 locked up already at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Gordon Eng currently leads the pack, with 15,975,000 in chips, closely followed by Lonnie Hallett (15,300,000) with David Stearns (10,575,000) rounding out the top three. Former Seniors champion Dan Heimiller (3,625,000) is also still in the hunt.

Leonard Clementi began the day as the chip leader with 217 players remaining. He fought gamely but did not quite manage to see the day out, ultimately falling in 58th place when Baxter hit a two-outer to end his tournament.

Baxter is by far the biggest name left in the event, with many notable players dropping out as the day progressed. Among those who didn’t make it through were Victor Ramdin, JJ Liu, Men Nguyen, and Waheed Ashraf.

The 29 players who bagged up at the day’s end will return for Day 4 on Sunday, June 25 at 12 p.m. local time (not 10 a.m. as previously advertised). They return to Level 32, meaning blinds are 125,000/250,000 with a 250,000 big blind ante.

Action will be streamed on PokerGO once the tournament reaches its final three tables. Levels will be 60 minutes in length, with a 15-minute break at the end of every two levels.

Baxter Sends Clementi to the Rail

Nível 29 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Billy Baxter
Billy Baxter

Action folded to day 2 chip leader Leonard Clementi in middle position who went all in for 650,000. It folded to seven time bracelet winner Billy Baxter in the small blind who also jammed. The big blind folded and the cards hit their backs.

Leonard Clementi: KQ
Billy Baxter: 1010

The 8J2 flop was clean for Baxter but the Q turn left him drawing to two outs. Right on time the 10 hit on the river and Baxter would send Clementi to the rail after an impressive showing.

James Clarke
James Clarke

James Clarke raised under the gun to 250,000, David Stearns called from middle position, as did Gunnar Wedde in the cutoff, and Shawn Stuart in the small blind.

The flop came 1095. Stuart started proceedings by open jamming for 1,525,000. Clarke flat called the bet as did Stearns who called off for his last 1,100,000.

Gunnar Wedde then re-jammed over the top for 4,850,000. The action was back on Clarke who got several counts before finally deciding to call.

David Stearns: 99
Gunnar Wedde: KJ
Shawn Stuart: K10
James Clarke: AA

With this massive four-way all in, the dust settled with a 6 turn and a 4 river. A triple up for Stearns, a huge side pot for Clarke and both Wedde and Stuart hit the rail.

As ten-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey competes in Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), another Poker Hall of Famer was looking for his eleventh piece of WSOP gold with a deep run in Event #41: $1,500 Big O.

Johnny Chan entered the third and final day of the Omaha event toward the bottom of the counts with 18 players remaining as the 1987 and 1988 Main Event champion hoped to finally break the three-way tie between himself, Ivey and the late Doyle Brunson in second place on the all-time bracelet list.

Sadly for poker fans sweating the $1,500 buy-in event, "The Master" was eliminated 14th place for $13,982 after a confrontation with Scott Abrams.

After taking a massive dent to their stack in the previous hand, Mojtaba Khorsandi moved all in from middle position for 600,000.

James Clarke on the button weighed up all the possible decisions and opted to make the call.

The flop of 322 was more helpful to Khorsandi, but the K turn gave Clarke the lead. The 7 was a brick that sent Khorsandi to the exit and Clarke is amassing a stack to challenge for the bracelet.
