Welcome to Day 1 of Event #7: $1,500 Dealer’s Choice

Scott Clements
Scott Clements

Hot on the heels of the $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. final table, the second multi-game mixed event of the 2021 World Series of Poker kicks off today with Event #7: $1,500 Dealer’s Choice.

Mixed game players will be put to the test of potentially 20 different games, running the gamut from No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, H.O.R.S.E., and 8-game rotation games, to more exotic games like Big O, Badeucey, Badacey, Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo Regular, Pot-Limit Triple Draw, and more.

Players will begin the day with 25,000 chips and play 15 40-minute levels. There will be 15-minute breaks after every three levels, and registration will be open until the end of level nine (approximately 9:45 pm local time). Players who bust before then will have the option of one re-entry.

The 2019 event saw 470 entrants take a shot at mixed game glory, with Scott Clements coming out on top to claim $144,957 and the coveted gold bracelet.

Clements outlasted a star-studded field that included Benny Glaser (6th, $18,996), who comes in off a runner-up finish in the $25,000 H.O.R.S.E.

Other notables that made deep runs in 2019 included Tim McDermott (2nd, $89,567), Mike Ross (3rd, $58,718),Mike Watson (7th, $13,681), 2019 WSOP Player of the Year Robert Campbell (8th, $13,681), Josh Arieh (10th, $10,101), and 2014 champion in this event, Robert Mizrachi (11th, $7,652).

Cards are scheduled to be in the air at 3 pm local time at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, and the PokerNews team will have you covered will all the mixed-game action!

Badacey

The event's 2015 champion Carol Fuchs' stack had dwindled below starting size but was boosted by a recent Badacey pot.

After the first draw, she led into her three opponents and received calls from all.

After drawing one and her opponents all drawing two, she bet again, this time getting two folds.

Fuchs again requested one card on the final draw then bet again, receiving another call.

She opened {8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} to scoop both halves of the pot.

A-5 Triple Draw

A player in early position limp-called a raise from Daniel Negreanu, and they went heads-up to the first draw.

Both players drew one card, with Negreanu's opponent check-calling a bet after the draw.

After they each drew one card again, Negreanu's opponent led into him on the first big bet round.

Negreanu laughed and exclaimed, "You screwed up! I would have bet for you!"

"Kid Poker" contemplated his next move, then eventually folded, claiming he made an 8 low.

Despite the loss, Negreanu still has 12,000 chips in front of him at table 507, and a healthy stack in the online event.

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

William Lahti passed along his description of taking a large pot from Allen Kessler in No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw.

Kessler opened for 1,100, a late position player called, and Lahti shoved for his last 6,400.

Kessler re-shoved, forcing out the late position player, then drew one, but he was drawing dead against Lahti's pat {8-}{7-}{x-}{x-}{x-}

Kessler was left short and then busted shortly after.
