Abrams Leads Final 27, Negreanu in the Mix for WSOP Omaha Glory

Scott Abrams
Scott Abrams

Scott Abrams will try to go wire-to-wire in Event #21: $1,500 Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better as he attempts to lay claim to his first WSOP bracelet, but other Omaha and mixed game wizards including Daniel Negreanu, Dylan Linde and Ari Engel will all be out to stop him.

Abrams (1,675,000) took the chip lead into Day 2, and while sitting in the upper tier of the chip counts most of the day, it wasn’t until a rush in the late levels that he regained the chip lead for good to enter Day 3.

Negreanu was right among the chip leaders near the end of the day until a massive pot in the final half-hour saw Jordan Spurlin (1,370,000) cut into Negreanu’s stack. The six-time WSOP bracelet winner will take a slightly below-average stack (535,000) into play, but after a rollercoaster Day 2 that saw him spin up a short stack a couple of times, Negreanu must still like his chances for bracelet number seven.

Linde (470,000) and Engel (305,000) will enter play Tuesday on the lower half of the leaderboard, but both players are more than qualified to run their stacks up. As is Ryan Laplante, but with just 119,000 in his stack after also being on the wrong end of Spurlin’s huge pot, the two-time bracelet winner will need to do some work quickly to get back into contention.

Hernan Salazar (1,230,000), Ryan Roeder (1,005,000), and Charles Coultas (985,000) round out the top five chip counts entering play, and besides Negreanu, Team GG Poker will also be represented by well-known streamer Patrick “Egption” Tardif (410,000) who remains in the mix.

The final 27 will play down to a winner beginning at 2:00 p.m. local time, with the top spot laying claim to $170,269 and the WSOP gold bracelet.

Dylan Linde
Dylan Linde

Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Dylan Linde has just laid his claim to the top of the leaderboard after winning a 1,000,000+ chip pot against Kosei Ichinose.

On the turn, the board read {4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, and Ichinose check-called a 150,000 chip bet from Linde.

On the {a-Diamonds} river, ichinose checked again, and this time Linde cut out a bet of 500,000.

Ichinose gave it some thought before calling, only to see Linde turn over {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a rivered full house.

Ichinose mucked and was left with just 200,00 chips, while Linde vaults to near two million.

Big O

With {8-Spades}{a-Spades}{k-Hearts} on the board, David Matsumoto got it in for around 500,000. Jordan Spurlin was the lone caller.

David Matsumoto: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}
Jordan Spurlin: {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}

The turn was {10-Spades} and the river was {8-Hearts}. Matsumoto's aces full of eights were good enough for a big double early in Day 3.

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

With his stack dwindlng, Kosei Ichinose raised in early position and was three-bet by Charles Coultas in late position. Ichinose called.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, and Ichinose check-called a bet from Coultas.

Ichinose also check-called a bet on the {6-Diamonds}, leaving himself less than one big bet behind.

The river {9-Spades} went check-check, and Coultas showed {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, which was good enough to win the pot with a pair of jacks and leave Ichinose on the short stack, which he lost shortly after, eliminating him from the tournament.

Negreanu on Fumes Thanks to Salazar

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Daniel Negreanu's tournament life is hanging by a thread after a pot with Hernan Salazar.

Salazar raised from the button into Negreanu's big blind, and Negreanu defended.

With just over 200,000 left, Negreanu led out on the {9-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} board, and Salazar called.

Negreanu bet again on the {a-Diamonds} turn, leaving himself 70,000 behind. Salazar called again.

Negreanu then checked the {q-Diamonds} on the river, and Salazar put out a bet that would put Negreanu all-in if he called.

After a bit of thought, Negreanu frustratedly tossed his cards into the muck saying, "Just no queen or no diamond. Shit."
