Back from a four-year hiatus, the highly anticipated Event #78: Big One for One Drop - $1,000,000 No-Limit Hold'em has finally arrived and will get underway at 11:00 a.m. local time inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. This year, the Big One for One Drop is the final event on the 2018 World Series of Poker schedule, starting just hours after John Cynn won $8.8 million in the Main Event.

This is the first time the $1,000,000 buy-in returns to the WSOP in Las Vegas since 2014, with a Big One for One Drop Extravaganza held in Monte Carlo in 2016 during WSOP Europe. With the Main Event and other storylines from the summer now fully wrapped up, the attention will turn towards the most pricey tournament of the summer. Needless to say, the seven-figure price tag will attract the top pros in the poker world who will all be looking to add an elusive eight-figure score to their already prestigious resumes.

The announcement came from Leon Tsoukernik during the 2017 WSOP Europe campaign that the $1,000,000 buy-in event would return to Las Vegas this summer. Tsoukernik was also the first one to confirm that he would be entering the field at the time of his announcement. As of late Saturday night, there were 32 players confirmed in the field with the cap being set at 48 players. Some of those that have already registered include Fedor Holz, Daniel Negreanu, Dominik Nitsche, Steffen Sontheimer, Sam Greenwood and the satellite winner, William Barth.

What makes this tournament so special to many of those at the WSOP, is that 8% of each buy-in goes directly to One Drop, the charitable organization to help supply clean water to places all around the world. The remaining $920,000 goes towards the prize pool. To learn more about One Drop, you can visit the link here.

Jack Effel Announces Shuffle Up and Deal in Big One for One Drop

Jack Effel

"This is a very special event," said Effel. "We're partners with the One Drop foundation and the reason why is because we feel very strongly about the fact that there is not enough clean drinking water around the world.

"When Antonion [Esfandiari] won in 2012, he visited El Salvador and I also went and visited the projects, so we know that the money goes directly to the projects and I know that the money helps a lot of people.

"I see the effects that the money has and it actually goes to the communities. I love to see the players have the opportunity to give something back.

"Everyone who participates is a very special person and we thank them for that."

Effel also announced that $525,000 had already been raised from the $1,111 Little One for One Drop. Every entry in the Big One will see $80,000 go directly to One Drop.

"These guys aren’t just playing for millions of dollars but they’re also playing for some neat jewellery," said Effel showing off the One Drop bracelet. "That's what it's all about. WSOP bracelets. Life-changing money. Life-changing opportunities, that’s what One Drop and this event is all about.

"Best of luck to these players; shuffle up and deal!"

Shakerchi Wins a Big One Early

Nível 1 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Talal Shakerchi and David Einhorn wasted no time getting right into the action as they decided to play a big pot in the early going. The completed board read {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and the pot already had around 2,600,000 in the middle.

Einhorn checked from the small blind and Shakerchi tossed in a casual bet of 1,725,000. Einhorn quickly threw in one of his time extensions and used up one more before a decision would be made. He eventually slid his cards to the muck and Shakerchi raked in a healthy pot to begin the day.
