Adam Owen Leads 152 Players Into Day 2; Fuchs, Israelashvili, and Kassela Among Leaders

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Chip Leader Adam Owen
Chip Leader Adam Owen

Day 1 of the Event #76: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. has come to a conclusion with the UK's Adam Owen bagging the chip lead over the remaining 152 players.

With the Main Event Final table taking center stage in the Amazon Room, one final mixed game tournament was being played out over in the corner of the Amazon Room where 354 players took to the felt to create a $955,800 prize pool that would see the final 54 players in-the-money while the $233,202 first prize would await whoever could climb to the top.

Due to the late scheduling of this event, numbers were expected to be considerably down, but a great field was set with many mixed game tournament regulars all looking to make this tournament a potential summer saver. WSOP bracelet winners Perry Friedman, Ron Ware, Kirk Morrison, Fabrice Soulier, Jean Gaspard, Gary Benson, Andre Akkari, Calvin Anderson, David Benyamine, David "ODB" Baker, Scott Bohlman, Steve Sung, Jen Harman, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Main Event Final Table bubble boy Yueqi Zhu all took a seat, but failed in their bid to survive into Day 2.

For Negreanu and Hellmuth, they would both be part of the late arrival crew, and although they flirted with getting something going, they would inevitably end up on the rail late in the day. For Negreanu, his end would come at the hands of Owen when his pair held against Negreanu's overcards, straight draw, and then turned diamond draw.

The Brit was already motoring up the counts before the elimination of Negreanu, and although he eclipsed the six-figure mark, Owen would eventually end the night as the overall chip leader with 99,700. Sitting right behind Owen was Kristan Lord (95,100) with Carol Fuchs (85,600), and Roland Israelashvili (84,900) close behind. Also blessed with a decent chip stack heading into Day 2 are Andrew Brown (79,700), Frank Kassela (76,900), Dan Heimiller (72,600), Greg Mueller (72,400), and Christine Hill (70,700).

Day 2 is set to be played in the Miranda Room at 2 pm (PDT) on Friday, July 13, with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team providing continuous live updates of all the Event #76 action. So stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com for every wheel draw, split pair, and capped pot live from Day of Event #76, and the 2018 WSOP.

Hold'em

Daniel Negreanu raised to 2,000 from early position and Adam Owen defended his big blind.

The flop landed {Q-}{10-}{6-} with one diamond and Owen checked to Negreanu who bet out. Owen check-raised, and Negreanu eventually got his last 3,400 into the middle against Owen.

Owen: {7-}{6-}
Negreanu: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

Negreanu held two overcards and a gutshot, and after turning a diamond draw with the {Q-Diamonds}, Negreanu also picked up outs to counterfeit Owen with any ten. Negreanu however, bricked the river and made an exit to the rail.

With that pot, Owen surges into the six-figure club and sits with just under 104,000 in chips.

Gaspard tabled his {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for the second nut low and ace-high. The cutoff revealed his {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} for the nut low.

Morrison tabled his {A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for the nut low also, but a pair of threes to win three-quarters.

"Wow. Give me three-quarters!" stated Morrison in excitement.

"Why didn't you raise? You had three-quarters!" asked Andrew Kelsall jokingly.

"I raise now!" Morrison exclaimed.
