Paul Volpe Eliminated

Nível 21 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

We missed the preflop action and arrived as small blind Luis Velador and big blind Paul Volpe were in the process of getting their chips in the middle on a {Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop.

Paul Volpe: {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Luis Velador: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}

The {A-Clubs} on the turn improved Velador and the {K-Hearts} on the river kept him in front. Volpe was eliminated, and Velador moved up to 1.3 million.

Capitan's Aces Hold Up

Nível 21 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Bogdan Capitan
Bogdan Capitan

Ben Yu opened with a pot-sized bet of 150,000 in the cutoff and Bogdan Capitan re-potted to 345,000 in the small blind. Yu shoved all in and Capitan called off his remaining stack.

Bogdan Capitan: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Ben Yu: {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Capitan's pair of aces was still way out front. The {9-Spades} on the turn gave Yu a pair and Capitan had a sweat on his hands. The river landed the {10-Hearts} and Yu whiffed on all his two pair draws as Capitan scored a double up.

Kalb and Graham Depart

Nível 21 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Jacob Kalb
Jacob Kalb

The second casualty of the day was Jacob Kalb after he min-raised and picked up a call by George Wolff in the big blind. On the flop of {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, the stacks of both collided and Kalb was the player at risk with the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{X-}. Wolff had the {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for the middle set and a gutshot, and the board completed with the {6-Clubs} turn and the {4-Clubs} river, which ended Kalb's run in 34th place.

Right after that, Jarred Graham departed when he ended up flopping top pair only for Mike Leah to turn a set of eights, leaving Graham drawing dead.

Steely Chips Up

Nível 21 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

Christopher Santora doubled in the first hand and then faced a raise to 70,000 by Sam Soverel from under the gun. Santora called in the small blind, as did Chase Steely in the big blind. The flop came {J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Santora checked, Steely moved all in for 75,000. Soverel folded with some consideration and Santora also let it go.

Steely flashed three cards — {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts} — before claiming the pot.

Mercier Eliminates Karmazinas on the First Hand

Nível 21 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

Jason Mercier raised to 75,000 from the cutoff and Dominykas Karmazinas shoved all in for 120,000 on the button. The action folded back to Mercier who made the call to put Karmazinas at risk.

Jason Mercier: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Dominykas Karmazinas: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{2-Spades}

The flop came {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Mercier picked up three pair while Karmazinas had top pair and a straight draw. The turn was the {q-Hearts} giving Karmazinas the straight but Mercier picked up a ton of outs with four pair and a flush draw. The river brought the {8-Hearts} and Mercier completed his flush to eliminate Karmazinas.

The Race to the Final Table on Day 3 of Event #42: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed High Roller

Jason Koon continues his great year with a cash in this event
Jason Koon continues his great year with a cash in this event

After an excruciating money bubble last night, the total field of 230 entries in Event #42: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed High Roller has been whittled down all the way to just 35 hopefuls, all guaranteed a portion of the massive $5,462,500 prize pool. A min-cash of $37,500 is locked up for all those that bagged up chips in the early morning hours, while the eventual champion on Saturday can look forward to a payday of $1,402,683 and the coveted gold bracelet.

In prime position to earn that prize is two-time WSOP bracelet winner Ben Yu, who ran very hot after the dinner break on Day 2 to bag 3,695,000.

The remaining top five stacks all belong to big names in Jason Koon (2,540,000), Ryan Tosoc (2,220,000), Shaun Deeb (2,120,000) and Scotty Nguyen (2,010,000). Koon may not have a bracelet to his name yet, but he is enjoying an excellent year thus far. The High Roller regular has earned six six-figure and three seven-figure scores already to boost his total cashes on the live circuit to more than $20 million.

Other notables still in contention in a field filled with some of the biggest names on the international poker circuit include the WSOP bracelet winners Jason Mercier (1,905,000), Luis Velador (1,045,000), David Prociak (1,020,000), Robert Mizrachi (1,005,000), Erik Seidel (725,000), defending champion James Calderaro (705,000), Mike Leah (660,000), Craig Varnell (625,000), Christopher Frank (565,000), David Benyamine (425,000), Sam Soverel (380,000), Paul Volpe (370,000), and Jarred Graham (300,000)..

A total of 10 levels of 60 minutes each are scheduled for the penultimate day of the tournament with a break every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level. The action is expected to shift into high gear right from the bat as several players have been left extremely short stacked by the prolonged bubble phase, Level 21 will resume with blinds of 15,000/30,000.

As always, the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to provide live updates on all of the action, and when three tables remain, the action will be live streamed on PokerGO.
