Michael Mizrachi and Phil Ivey Lead Final 42 Players in Poker Players Championship

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for Day 3 of the Event #33: $50,000 Poker Players Championship!

Two days ago this tournament began with 87 players taking a seat in what some say is the most prestigious poker tournament a high stakes poker player can win. Capturing the Poker Players Championship doesn't just insure them of a million-dollar first prize, a WSOP bracelet, and the David "Chip" Reese Memorial Trophy, but it also validates them as one of the best all-round poker players in the world today.

Previous winners Matthew Ashton and David Bach all exited the tournament on Day 2, but it would be two-time winner Michael Mizrachi ascending to the top of the leaderboard to bag the chip lead with 1,274,000. Mizrachi won the Poker Players Championship back in 2010 and 2012, and just last year he was one of the chip leaders heading into Day 3 as well. Right behind Mizrachi is ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey. Ivey was the first man to cross the million-chip mark on Day 2 when he eliminated Jake Abdalla, and between him and Mizrachi, they remained one and two throughout the last levels of the day. Ivey ended the day with 1,131,000; the only other player in the seven-figure club.

Shaun Deeb (933,000), Eli Elezra (917,000), Dan Smith (901,500), and Chris Vitch (843,500) are all among the chip leaders while defending champion Elior Sion (344,000), and previous champions Mike Gorodinsky (519,000), Brian Rast (304,500), and John Hennigan (289,000), are also still in contention.

Play is set to resume at 2pm (PDT) on Sunday the 17th June, with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team providing continuous live updates of all the Poker Players Championship action. So stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com for all the Event #33 updates, along with all the continued coverage from the 2018 World Series of Poker.
