Welcome to Day 1 of Event #27: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship

David Bach was last year's victor
David Bach was last year's victor

Welcome to the first day's coverage of Event #27: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship from the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

Today, at 3 p.m., the players will start their three-day run for the gold bracelet as they look to emulate the achievement of last year's winner, David Bach, who came through a 150-player field to win $383,208. The entrants last year included Daniel Negreanu, Brian Rast, Stephen Chidwick, Phil Hellmuth, and Jason Mercier, who won this event in 2016, so the field is likely to be strong once again.

Five different game types will be played during this tournament and change every orbit: limit hold'em, Omaha hi-lo, razz, seven-card stud, and seven-card stud hi-lo. Each player will receive 50,000 starting chips with ten 60-minute levels being played out. There will be 15-minute breaks every two levels, and late registration is open until the start of Day 2.

Hold'em and Omaha will begin with blinds of 300/500 and limits of 500/1,000, while the three stud games will start with a 100 ante, a 200 bring-in, and the same 500/1,000 limits.

Suchanek Chops with Shack-Harris

Brandon Shack-Harris: {X-} {X-} / {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs} / {X-}

Picking up the action on fourth street, Brandon Shack-Harris bet and Jan Suchanek called before doing so again on fifth street and sixth street. Both then elected to check seventh and Shack-Harris rolled over the {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for a low and a pair of deuces. Suchanek revealed {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a pair of nines and took the high pot.

Suchanek is third on New Zealand's all-time money list and a mixed-game aficionado, who can be seen regularly seen during the Aussie Millions at the start of the year and in Las Vegas during the WSOP.

The early chip leader on the very same table appears to be Robert Campbell.

Ryynanen Fights Back

Limit Hold'em

Brock Parker raised in the hijack and short stack Sampo Ryynanen made it three bets on the button, which Parker called. On the {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop, Parker checked and folded to a bet.

Soon after, Adam Friedman raised and John Esposito three-bet, Friedman called. The flop came {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Friedman checked, Esposito bet, Friedman check-raised and then folded to a reraise. Esposito flashed the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}.

Parker limped in and Ryynanen raised, Friedman called and Parker came along. On the {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop, action checked to Ryynanen and his bet was called by Parker only. The {6-Diamonds} turn brought a check by Parker, a bet by Ryynanen and a fold.

Vitch Keeps Winning

Nível 6
Chris Vitch
Chris Vitch

Limit Hold'em

Christopher Vitch has just won two pots on the river after putting the pressure on his opponents.

In the first hand, he called a raise from Eric Kurtzman while in the big blind and saw a flop of {9-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}, before his check-raise was called and the turn was revealed to be the {10-Hearts}. Kurtzman called Vitch's bet, but when the river came the {5-Diamonds}, Vitch's pressure worked as he got his opponent to fold with a bet.

And it was to be a similar situation just a couple of hands later. Vitch raised from the button and was three-bet by George Alexander. Vitch made the call and stuck around on the {k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop to see the {7-Clubs} turn. Alexander continued, Vitche called and the former checked on the {9-Diamonds} river. Vitch decided to put Alexander to the test with a bet and after a minutes thought, the latter folded.

Omaha Hi-Lo

Richard Ashby raised from under the gun and was called three ways by Perry Friedman in the cutoff, Andrew Kelsall in the small blind and Yuebin Guo in the big blind. The flop of {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} was checked to Ashby and he bet, Friedman raised and Kelsall folded, Guo called and Ashby came along.

The {K-Hearts} on the turn was checked through and Guo bet the {8-Clubs} river, forcing a fold from Ashby. Friedman called, but mucked when Guo turned over his {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for aces and eights, as well as the nut low.

Limit Holdem

Justin Bonomo joined the action half-way through Day 1 but hasn't been able to capitalize on his late registration just yet as he is down to 15,000.

Bonomo, Michael Gathy, and Michael McKenna were in the hand as the flop read {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and all three players went to the turn of the {a-Hearts}. Bonomo, who was under the gun, checked and Gathy bet which both his opponents called.

On the {2-Clubs} river, Gathy once again bet after being checked to, and only Bonomo made the call. Gathy tabled {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for the nut flush, and Heads-up Championship winner Bonomo mucked.

Zhukov Eliminated in Three-Way All-In

Seven Card Stud

Randy Ohel: {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Richard Bai: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

On fourth street, Viacheslav Zhukov and Richard Bai were all in against big stack Randy Ohel. Zhukov had a massive draw with four clubs, however, he would run out blank with the {5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds} as remaining cards. Bai picked up the {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for aces and tens, and Ohel's {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Spades} could not send two players to the rail.

Bai scooped the main pot to boost his stack, while Zhukov joined the rail.
