Queens Help Heinz

Nível 30 : 60,000/120,000, 15,000 ante

Another big preflop, all-in confrontation, this one on the outer tables.

Andrew Hinrichsen raised to 260,000 from middle position, and it folded back to Pius Heinz who reraised to 635,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded, Hinrichsen four-bet all in, and Heinz called for 3.95 million total.

Heinz tabled {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, Hinrichsen {A-Spades}{K-Spades}, and the race was on. The board ran out {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts}, and Heinz doubled to about 8.1 million. Hinrichsen now has about 2.4 million.

Check-Calling With Quads

Kenny Shih - Nearing 10 million chips
Kenny Shih - Nearing 10 million chips

Kenny Shih opened from middle position, JP Kelly three-bet to 680,000 from the cutoff, and Shih called. The flop fell {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, and Shih checked to Kelly who continued for 525,000. Shih called.

The turn was the {4-Hearts}, and Kelly fired a second bullet worth 900,000. Shih tanked for a minute or so, then slid out enough green T25,000 chips to make the call.

The {3-Hearts} completed the board, and Shih knuckled a third time. Kelly emptied the chamber, sliding out over 3 million in lavender T100,000 chips. Shih hesitated for perhaps a millisecond before calling, but waited for Kelly to open his hand first. Kelly sheepishly tabled {k-Hearts}{9-Spades} for king-high, prompting Shih to roll over {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for quad queens!

Shih did a lap around the table, breathing heavily and yelling to his rail. Meanwhile, a tournament director counted down Shih's stack and found that it was around 2.8 million - less than the bet. A great deal of damage had been done to Kelly's stack regardless, and here's how the two look now:

Brecher Gone in 31st Place

Steve Brecher Busted
Steve Brecher Busted

Action folded to Steve Brecher on the button and he raised to 275,000. Khoa Nguyen was next to act in the small blind and he three-bet to 760,000. The big blind got out of the way and action was back on Brecher. He leaned back in his chair, took a swig of his water, and then announced that he was all in for 3.78 million more. Nguyen snap-called and Brecher knew he was in trouble.

Showdown
Brecher: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Nguyen: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Whether it was an ill-timed move or bad read, it didn't change the fact that Brecher was in a tough spot. The {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop gave him some added out as any three would make him a wheel, but neither the {K-Diamonds} turn nor {J-Spades} river gave him enough to win the hand.

Brecher was eliminated from the tournament in 31st place while Nguyen chipped up to 16.5 million.

Staszko and Sands All In with Sevens

From the cutoff seat, Martin Staszko stayed on the preflop gas pedal with a raise to 260,000. In the small blind, David "Doc" Sands reraised all in for 1.72 million in chips. Staszko tanked for a little bit when action got back to him, but he eventually made the call.

Once again, Staszko called an all in holding pocket sevens -- {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} -- trying to eliminate one half of the Sands/Moutniho couple. Sands held the same pair with the {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}. The board ran out {10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and the two chopped up the pot.

Staszko Takes Some Back from Moutinho

Action folded to Martin Staszko on the button and he raised to 260,000. Erika Moutinho made the call from the small blind and these two would be at it again. Last time they faced off was merely minutes ago when Staszko doubled up Moutinho.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Moutinho checked. Staszko fired 260,000 and Moutinho made the call.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and brought in a possible flush draw. Moutinho checked again and Staszko fired a bigger 550,000. Moutinho thought for a little bit and then folded, allowing Staszko to win this one.

Konstantinos Mamaliadis
Konstantinos Mamaliadis

Pius Heinz raised to 250,000 from middle position, Konstantinos Mamaliadis reraised to 460,000 from the hijack seat, and it folded back to Heinz who called.

The flop came all hearts -- {9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts} -- and Heinz checked. Mamaliadis took the opening to set out chips for a bet of 675,000. Heinz considered Mamaliadis' action for a moment, then let his hand go.

Heinz has 4.1 million at the moment, while Mamaliadis has 7.55 million.

No Gruissem Beats Here

Philipp Gruissem gives the thumbs up to his rail.
Philipp Gruissem gives the thumbs up to his rail.

Action folded to Philipp Gruissem on the button and he raised to 235,000. Samuel Holden was next to act in the small blind and he three-bet to 3,000,000, enough to put Gruissem all in if he elected to call, which is exactly what he did when he pushed forward his last 2.33 million.

Showdown
Holden: {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Gruissem: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop provided Holden with a gut-shot straight draw, but neither the {4-Diamonds} turn nor {q-Diamonds} river completed it. Gruissem's kings held and he doubled to 4.98 million; meanwhile, Holden took a hit down to 2.1 million.

Moutinho Doubles Through Staszko

Erika Moutinho gets a fist pump from boyfriend David Sands after she doubled up.
Erika Moutinho gets a fist pump from boyfriend David Sands after she doubled up.

From early position, Martin Staszko raised to 260,000. In the hijack seat, Erika Moutinho reraised all in for 1.775 million in chips. Play folded back to Staszko and he tanked for a bit before eventually making the call with the {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}. Moutinho had the better pair with the {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

The flop came down {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Staszko was still behind. The turn brought the {A-Hearts} and now Moutinho needed to dodge just one more card in order to double up. The river completed the board with the {Q-Hearts} and Moutinho was able to fade her all-in situation and earn the double. She's back over 3.8 million while Staszko slipped to just over five million.

After the hand, her boyfriend and neighbor at the main feature table David "Doc" Sands gave her a nice, emphatic fist bump in celebration. The couple is still alive.

Hinrichsen Doubles Through Kaplan

Nível 30 : 60,000/120,000, 15,000 ante

Andrew Hinrichsen opened from under the gun with a raise to 250,000, and it folded to Gregory Kaplan in the hijack seat who made it 430,000 to go. It folded back around to Hinrichsen who reraised all in for 2.725 more (more than 3.1 million total), and Kaplan called.

Kaplan showed {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} and Hinrichsen {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. The flop came {6-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, putting Hinrichsen in front. The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and river the {9-Clubs}, and Hinrichsen doubled to 6.625 million. Kaplan slips to 8.9 million.
