SHRB Final Table Set With Negreanu as Headliner

Nível 19 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

The 2018 Super High Roller Bowl is down to its final six runners in contention for the monstrous $5 million top prize, and none other than poker icon Daniel Negreanu remains in contention among the leaders.

It's essentially a three-way tie at the top with high roller superstar Mikita Badziakouski holding a slight lead toting 4,205,000 into the final day. Negreanu trails with 4 million and the player with a big lead on the 2018 money list, Justin Bonomo — $8,907,138 already — has 3,965,000.

Shorter stacks looking to overtake the leaders will be Jason Koon (1,185,000), Nick Petrangelo (600,000) and Christoph Vogelsang (445,000). Vogelsang advanced to his second straight SHRB final table after claiming victory last year for $6 million in a slightly larger field.

It's certainly an intimidating field, with nearly $120 million in combined tournament cashes. Going into deep-stacked play — nearly 40 minutes remain at 10,000/25,000/25,000 — with the likes of Bonomo and Badziakouski represents a challenge for even the most battle-hardened player. However, it's a moment for which Negreanu has spent months preparing.

"The structure being as deep as it is...I didn't work on short-stack play the entire three months of training," Negreanu told PokerNews. "All I worked on was 100 big blinds. I feel very confident that the preparation is going to pay off."

"Kid Poker" said he's experienced surprisingly smooth sailing considering the ultra-elite nature of the field.

"I really feel great about this tournament. I got off to a big chip lead early. I was able to hang on to those chips without having any real big adversity."

A few huge hands helped. Negreanu made at least two sets, hit trips and got lucky with a straight in select key pots. However, he also made a big calldown in a tough spot against Petrangelo in one of the more memorable hands of the day.

Petrangelo limped and called a big raise, flopping an open-ender and backdoor flush draw against Negreanu's top pair of aces with a backdoor flush draw and ten kicker. Petrangelo check-raised, barreled turn and then barreled river when a third spade hit the board.

Holding the ten of spades as his kicker and a blocker, Negreanu called the last barrel of 580,000.

"It's an interesting situation," he said. "It's a call where in 2004, if you would have said you called because you had the ten of spades, people would have said what kind of stupid logic is that?

"It was before the game evolved to where combinations of cards mattered in that people understood them. I basically had the best bluffcatcher I could, so if I fold that, what the hell am I doing?"

Badziakouski looked like he might bag a huge lead after a midday heater saw him far outdistance his competitors. He got lucky and flopped top set with eights against Bonomo's kings in a three-bet pot and earned a full double despite an ace appearing on the turn.

Mikita Badziakouski
Badziakouski had a Day 3 filled with sets.

Then, he flopped top set again in a four-bet pot with aces against Chidwick, who flopped a combo draw and jammed the turn and bricked.

Badziakouski then had his own savage moment as he bluffed Chidwick off kings on the bubble after missing a straight draw and three-barreling off with third pair.

Chidwick did manage to sneak into the money as he busted seventh for $600,000, but that'll likely be small comfort to him after he had a massive stack early in Day 3. Seth Davies also got a little money, but only $90,000 in forfeited deposits for an eight-place finish. Steffen Sontheimer was the final player to bust and leave empty-handed.

As for Bonomo, he had a swingy day that included a massive sweat on the big bubble for the $600,000 payout. He got it in with ace-ten shoving over a Badziakouski open only to have Vogelsang wake up with kings. Bonomo flopped a ten and hit an ace on the river to survive, running his stack up again from there.

The tournament resumes at noon with a delayed stream to follow on PokerGO and updates synched with the stream here on PokerNews.

Stephen Chidwick Eliminated in 7th Place ($600,000)

Nível 19 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Down to crumbs, Stephen Chidwick posted the mandatory big blind ante along with his big blind.

When action folded around to Jason Koon in the small blind, he put Chidwick all-in for 235,000 effectively. Chidwick found a great hand to call with, the {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Koon's {9-Spades}{8-Hearts} were, however, very much live cards.

And it proved already in the window as a nine popped up, with the flop reading {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. The {3-Hearts} turn meant Chidwick was hoping for one of the three aces in the deck to stay afloat.

The dealer rolled over the {5-Clubs} river, officially ending Chidwick tournament run. The US Poker Open leaderboard winner took home $600,000 for his efforts.

With the official final table set, the action was halted for the day end the final six players bagged their belongings.

Seth Davies Eliminated in 8th Place ($90,000)

Nível 19 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Seth Davies

PokerGO INSIDERS hero Seth Davies soft-bubbled the Super High Roller 2018.

Davies was grinding a short stack for a while, hoping to find a double. Some of his recent shoves got through but he would eventually finish eighth, earning $90,000 coming from the forfeited deposits.

His run came to an end when he found {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} in the small blind, moving all-in over Daniel Negreanu's button-raise. Unfortunately for Davies, Jason Koon woke up with {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} in the big blind and reshoved. Negreanu laid down his queen-jack.

The board ran {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, eliminating Davies in eighth place. All remaining players reached the official six-handed final table, having locked up $600,000.

Bonomo Back On Top

Nível 18 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Justin Bonomo opened the button to 45,000 and Mikita Badziakouski three-bet the big blind to 250,000.

Bonomo called, and when the flop landed {5-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, Badziakouski bet out 425,000 and Bonomo called.

The turn fell the repeating {5-Diamonds} and Badziakouski led out for 425,000 again.

Bonomo went into the tank and eventually used a time extension chip. As the additional minute he received was about to expire, Bonomo announced he was all in for 1,760,000.

Immediately Badziakouski looked pained, and after about 15 seconds, he flung his cards to the muck.

Mikita Badziakouski Shoves on Stephen Chidwick
Mikita Badziakouski Shoves on Stephen Chidwick

Mikita Badziakouski maneuvers the biggest stack in the tournament room and there was no doubt he'd put it to a good use on the bubble.

Badziakouski raised the button to 55,000 and Stephen Chidwick matched the price from the small blind.

The flop came {J-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Chidwick let Badziakouski continue for 125,000. He called.

The {5-Hearts} turn saw Chidwick check again and Badziakouski kept firing. He slid forward 350,000 but Chidwick wasn't ready to give up just yet. He paid up again.

So they went to the {8-Clubs} river with over 1 million in the pot. Chidwick checked for the final time and Badziakouski used a time extension before making his move. He announced he was all-in, putting Chidwick to a test for his remaining 1,300,000 or so.

Chidwick didn't need as much time, he briefly scanned his chip-stack and then released his cards, folding.

Petrangelo Eliminates Sontheimer

Steffen Sontheimer

In a hand from the stream, Steffen Sontheimer raised to 38,000 on the button with {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Nick Petrangelo shoved in the big blind with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. Sontheimer took a deep breath, thought briefly, and called.

The {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop pulled Sontheimer into the lead, and the {3-Clubs} kept him there. An {a-Clubs} river spelled doom for the German, though, and he bowed out before the small payout in eighth.

Stephen Chidwick raised from the button and called off when big blind Kahle Burns moved all-in for around 20 big blinds.

The cards were turned up and Burns saw that his hand was dominated.

Stephen Chidwick: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

The {7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{A-Hearts} flop hit Chidwick's ace and Burns was now drawing for a Broadway. He'd already hit a gutter today to stay in contention but he couldn't get there this time. The {5-Hearts} turn and {7-Clubs} river sealed his fate as he bowed out in 10th place.

Badziakouski's Aces Hold in Massive Hand Against Chidwick

Nível 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Mikita Badziakouski
Mikita Badziakouski

Mikita Badziakouski first doubled through Justin Bonomo and now he bit into the other big stack as he clashed against Stephen Chidwick in a massive pot, the biggest of the tournament so far.

Badziakouski was on the button and he open-raised, provoking a three-bet to 160,000 from Chidwick who was in small blind. Badziakouski, however, fired back, four-betting to 425,000. Chidwick called within his allotted 30 seconds, sparing all timebanks he had left.

The action halted on the {10-Clubs}{A-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop where Badziakouski checked back but the intensity exploded on the {4-Spades} turn.

Chidwick checked to Badziakouski again and he cut out a small 250,000-bet. Chidwick announced a raise to 1.5 million and Badziakouski counted his stack, looking whether Chidwick's raise effectively covers him or not. Then he made the call for all his chips, knowing he wouldn't have to technically move all-in. Chidwick nodded, understanding the situation as he allowed the showdown without verifying the exact amounts.

Stephen Chidwick: {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}
Mikita Badziakouski: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

It became evident that the river card would be the most important card so far dealt in the Super High Roller 2018. The {5-Spades} stood with Badziakouski whose aces held against Chidwick's combo draw.

Badziakouski took over the pole position, catapulting his stack to 3.5 million. Chidwick, however, is still one of the bigger stacks in the room despite this deep wound.

Mikita Badziakouski Doubles

From the button, Mikita Badziakouski opened to 37,000 before Justin Bonomo three-bet the big blind to 140,000.

Badziakouski called, and the dealer spread a {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop.

Bonomo bet out 225,000 and Badziakouski called as the turn landed the {A-Hearts}.

Bonomo announced he was all in, and slid forward a stack of white 100,000-denomination chips. Badziakouski immediately made the call for his remaining 682,000 and the cards were revealed.

Badziakouski: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Bonomo: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

Badziakouski had struck gold on the flop by hitting his set, and when the river landed the {J-Hearts}, he was ensured of a double up to over 2.1 million while Bonomo sunk under 1.7 million.
