Brian Rast Leads $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl Final Table

Nível 17 : 30,000/60,000, 5,000 ante

The inaugural $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl started with 43 entrants, who created a prize pool of $21.5 million, but after two full days of play the field is down to the final seven. Each of the remaining players has locked up a minimum $860,000 payday, but each of them have their eyes firmly fixed on the $7.525 million first-place prize.

The man best positioned to make a run at the top prize is Brian Rast, who leads the final table with 7.98 million.

"I have a lot of chips, and I'm in a really good situation right now," Rast said at the end of the night. "My seat's not too bad, but there are a lot of good players. There are no amateurs. Hopefully I'll have some good luck and things will go well. Maybe I can take this big stack and win the tournament."

Rast is looking for the fourth seven-figure score of his career. His first came in 2011 when he won the World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players' Championship for $1,720,328, and then a year later he took sixth in the inaugural Big One for ONE DROP for $1,621,333. More recently, he took home $1,083,500 for winning the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic High Roller in December 2013.

Things heated up on Day 2 straight out of the gate when Igor Kurganov, the short stack at the start of play, got his stack all in holding the {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and was up against the {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} of Scott Seiver. The board ran out {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} and just like that Kurganov was flushed away.

As the day wore on, Kurganov, who went on to be a guest on the latest edition of the PokerNews Podcast, received company on the rail including Bobby Baldwin, Phil Galfond, Andrew Lichtenberger, Sam Trickett, Ben Sulsky, Daniel Colman, Jason Koon, David "Doc" Sands, Daniel Negreanu, and Andrew Robl, who finished as the bubble boy.

Robl's demise came in Level 17 (30,000/60,000/5,000) when action folded to him on the button and he raised to 160,000. Rast pushed back with a big three-bet to 445,000 from the small blind, and Robl announced that he was all in for right around 2.35 million. Rast snap-called.

Rast: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Robl: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

It was a classic race, but Robl was the one that needed to improve. The {j-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop actually have Rast a set, but all hope was not lost for Robl, who picked up a gutshot Broadway draw. The {K-Hearts} turn was no help to Robl, and neither was the {9-Hearts} river.

Robl fell in eighth place as the bubble boy, while the final seven players, bagged and tagged for the night.

"It's a little bittersweet because Andrew is a friend of mine," Rast said after the hand. "It's always tough busting a good friend when you know it's painful for them. It comes along with what we do. My heart goes out to my friend Andrew on that one, but we're all playing poker, and that's what happens."

Lamb Led to the Slaughter

Nível 16 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Scott Seiver opened for 125,000 from middle position only to have Ben Lamb three-bet shove for 595,000 from the hijack. Timofey Kuznetsov then four-bet all in over the top from the small blind for about 1.1 million, Seiver folded, and Lamb discovered the bad news.

Kuznetsov: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Lamb: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Lamb was in dire straits, and he'd received no help as the board ran out a clean {a-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}.

"Good game, guys," Lamb offered before taking his leave in ninth place.

Altergott Loses the Max; Busts in 10th Place

Nível 15 : 20,000/40,000, 4,000 ante
Max Altergott
Max Altergott

From the hijack seat, Tom Marchese made it 90,000 to go. Max Altergott was on the button and moved all in for about 820,000. After the blinds folded, Marchese made the call with the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. Altergott showed the same hand with the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}.

The {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} flop gave Marchese a flush draw and allowed him to freeroll the hand against Altergott, who was at risk for his tournament life.

Needing a spade to win the pot, Marchese got it when the {8-Spades} hit fourth street. Despite Marchese hitting the flush not he turn, Altergott wasn't drawing dead just yet, as he could chop if the nine of spades or four of spades put a straight flush on the board. It didn't when the {9-Hearts} hit, and Altergott was eliminated.

With that, the field has been cut down to the final nine players. Those nine will now redraw for the unofficial final table. A seat draw and updated chip counts will be posted shortly.

Brutal River Sends Baron to the Rail

Nível 14 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Isaac Baron
Isaac Baron

David Peters raised to 70,000 from the cutoff and Isaac Baron defended his big blind. The {q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop saw Baron check, and then call when Peters bet 83,000.

When the {3-Hearts} appeared on the turn, Baron checked and Peters bet 136,000. Baron sprung to life with an all-in check-raise to roughly 750,000, and Peters called.

Peters: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Baron: {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Baron had flopped top two, and he was primed to double. In fact, all he needed to do was dodge an ace on the river. Unfortunately for him, that proved easier said than done as the {a-Hearts} spiked to send Baron out the door in 13th place.

Huge Clash Lands Brian Rast a Pot of 3.8 Million

Nível 14 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Brian Rast (Day 1)
Brian Rast (Day 1)

Wow, wow, wow!

Up on the main feature table, Brian Rast and Tom Marchese just clashed in a huge pot worth over 3.8 million in chips. The result? Rast is now the chip leader of this event with 13 players left.

Scott Seiver started things off with a raise to 75,000 from the hijack seat. Play then folded over to Rast in the small blind, and he reraised to 225,000. Marchese was in the big blind and reraised to 540,000. After Seiver folded, Rast thought for a little bit before he moved all in for 1.855 million. Marchese checked back at his hand and called, creating the massive pot that would see one of these two take the chip lead.

Rast turned up the second best starting hand in poker, with the {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Marchese had a good starting hand of his own, but the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} he held was a bit dominated by Rast's hand.

The flop fell {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}, and Rast's kings stayed in front. The {10-Hearts} on the turn didn't change much, and Marchese was still in need of an ace on the river.

The dealer burned and turned the {3-Hearts} for the river card, and that was not what Marchese had hoped for. He counted out the amount he owed from his stack and was left with about 375,000 in chips. Rast, on the other hand, boomed to over 3.8 million.

Bye-Bye Buddiga

Pratyush Buddiga
Pratyush Buddiga

Andrew Robl opened for 65,000 from the cutoff and was immediately met by an all-in three-bet for roughly 350,000 by Pratyush Buddiga on the button. The blinds both folded, and Robl made the call.

Buddiga: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Robl: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Buddiga had some kicker issues, and he failed to resolve them as the board ran out a clean {4-Spades}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. With that, Buddiga was felled in 14th place.

Daniel Negreanu Eliminated

Nível 13 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Tom Marchese raised from the button to 56,000, and Daniel Negreanu called out of the big blind to see the {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop. After Negreanu checked, Marchese bet 75,000. Negreanu check-raised all in for what looked to be 500,000-600,000, and Marchese made the call.

Negreanu tabled top pair with the {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Marchese had the {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a flush draw.

The turn wasn't a diamond, but it did improve Marchese when the {A-Spades} fell to give him a better pair. The river was the {6-Clubs}, and that was the end of the road for Negreanu.

Colman Loses Flip for His Tournament Life

Nível 11 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Dan Colman
Dan Colman

Action folded to Dan Colman in the cutoff and he raised to 38,000. Isaac Baron, who was in the small blind, responded by three-betting to 83,000, which inspired Colman to shove all in for roughly 290,000. Baron made the call and it was off to the races.

Colman: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Baron: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop kept Colman in the lead, but then disaster struck when the dealer burned and turned the {A-Hearts}. Baron vaulted into the lead, and Colman needed a ten on the river to stay alive. That didn't happen though as the {J-Spades} blanked. Colman exited in 19th place.
