Muhovic Leads Final 14 Players in WCOOP-33-H: $5,200 NLHE [8-Max, High Roller]

WCOOP-33-H Day 2 Players
WCOOP-33-H Day 2 Players

After winning his first SCOOP title back in May for $201,606, Mirza "zazano" Muhovic has narrowly claimed the chip lead on Day 1 of the WCOOP-33-H: $5,200 NLHE [8-Max, High Roller] after eliminating "despedespi33" in the final hand of the night. PokerStars had placed a guaranteee of $750,000 on the tournament but with 89 unique players flocking to the tournament and reentering 66 times, 155 entries were collected to create a prize pool of $775,000 in total.

A few months ago, Muhovic had to overcome a star-studded final table which included players like Joel "Odonkor1" Nordkvist, Jon "apestyles" Van Fleet, Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle, and Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis but none of those players are left in the final 14 players who have made it through to Day 2. Muhovic narrowly pipped Ole "wizowizo" Schemion to the chip lead as he bagged 4,328,322 to the 4,325,650 the German will bring back tomorrow.

Completing the top five are Luke "Bit2Easy" Reeves (4,160,732), Matthias "iambest2" Eibinger (4,086,295), and David "EzPaTuLa" Cabrera with 3,728,351 but Joao "Naza114" Vieira (3,233,139) and Sergei "Futti18" Koliakov (3,210,596) have also bagged an above average stack.

Today's Action

By the time the late registration period closed, there were 60 players left to battle it out for a spot in the top 17 as that's how many would get paid. As players couldn't reenter anymore, the eliminations started coming in quickly. Viktor "papan9_p$" Ustimov, /usa, Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos, Patrick "pads1161" Leonard, Daris "DEX888" Pedes, Andras "probirs" Nemeth, and Sergi "srxakgirona" Reixach all used four bullets and all missed their targets.

Giorgios "Geokarak" Karakousis was eliminated by Muhovic when the tournament was down to the final three tables. Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen fell to Alexandru "steakaddict." Papazian and "vendes" and "Wildace_hun" followed shortly after. Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin then busted to Simon "simon1471" Higgins to get the field two away from the money. It would take 20 minutes before Daniel "Oxota" Dvoress called Vieira's four-bet shove with ace-king and couldn't beat the nines of the latter.

Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer bubbled

The actual bubble would end up lasting forty minutes. Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer shoved his last eight big blinds in with ace-queen and was looked up by Conor "1_conor_b_1" Beresford who held aces. No danger on the flop for Beresford as he burst the bubble while the remaining players had all secured at least $12,447.

Aliaksei "ale6ka" Boika had the shortest stack after the bubble had popped and was also the first to cash when Mike "SirWatts" Watson took him out. Kahle "ROFLshove" Burns then busted to Eibinger when his nines couldn't beat the ace-jack of the latter as he flopped top pair, turned two pair, and rivered a full house. With a minute left in the day, "despedespi33" then lost his last chips to Muhovic.

Plan for Day 2

The players last played Level 20 and should be restarting at 7:05 p.m. CEST on Wednesday, September 9 with Level 21 which features a small blind of 25,000, a big blind of 50,000, and a running ante of 6,000. The level duration will increase to 25 minutes each at one point and the PokerStars Twitch stream will be bringing you cards-up coverage of this tournament with a 30-minute security delay.

Martin “Marksman_M” Thien Wu Casually Streams Huge WCOOP Win to Three Twitch Viewers

Nível 19 : 17,500/35,000, 4,500 ante
WCOOP Marksman_M
WCOOP Marksman_M

Imagine this. You’re winding down your poker session, playing the last game of the night, casually streaming to a handful of Twitch viewers.

Then you win a WCOOP title.

That’s exactly what happened to Martin “Marksman_M” Thien Wu, winner of the WCOOP 05-M: $55, 8-Max PKO.

I caught up with Martin for a chat about his time at the tables that fateful evening.

One of the stories that really stood out was how he started playing poker in the first place (more on that later). The fact that he streamed the win live on Twitch makes Martin’s journey even better. Only a few lucky witnesses were there to see it live as Martin claimed his place in history, not only as a WCOOP champion, but as a streamer too.

WCOOP 2020: A Bountiful $10K Sunday Slam for Dimitar Danchev

Dimitar Danchev
Dimitar Danchev

Helping kick off the 2020 World Championship of Online Poker was one of many marquee events that will play out this series, the two-day $10,300 buy-in Sunday Slam.

As a progressive knockout tournament, finding ways to stack as many opponents as possible was crucial. In the end 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champion Dimitar “KuuL” Danchev punched out the most of them to earn the title and just over $400,000 including bounties.

When speaking on the PokerStars WCOOP 2020 live stream about his win, Danchev acknowledged how important collecting those knockouts really was.

“My tournament went pretty good with winning a lot of bounties,” he says. “But it’s very important actually if you win a lot of bounties in such format to win the heads-up, so you keep all the bounties for yourself!”

This Time? Some of the Top Talents Who Have (Inexplicably) Never Won During WCOOP

WCOOP Players

Just before the 2018 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) got under way, we took a look at five players who were overdue a victory in poker’s premiere tournament series. There was simply no rational explanation for how come all of Niklas “Lena900” Astedt, Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson, Luke “lb6121” Schwartz, Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi and Tobias “kuhns89” Hausen had not, to that point, won a WCOOP tournament.

Two years on, only Astedt has put it right. He won the $530 PLO 6-Max in 2018 to get the monkey off his back.

Today we’re taking a look at another list of brilliant talents who have not yet won a title during WCOOP. But remember as you read the list of nearly men below that Mattsson, Schwartz, Shakerchi and Hausen are still looking for that WCOOP title too. Perhaps there’s no real shame in all of this.
