Three More Events Remain at the Poker Masters; Time for Some No-Limit Hold'em

Friday saw the kick-off of the 2018 Poker Masters live from the PokerGO Studio and Event #1 would see David Peters emerge victorious over the 69-player field to capture the $193,200 first prize. Event #2 took place on Saturday, and Brandon Adams defeated the 50-player field to take home the $400,000 first prize. Sunday saw the game change to Pot-Limit Omaha, and it would be Keith Lehr defeating the 37-player field to capture the $333,000 first prize.

Monday saw the game switch again with Event #4: $10,000 Short Deck Poker taking center stage. The newest craze to hit the poker world saw a popular turnout of 55 players that ensured the final eight players a guaranteed payday. Justin Young would be eliminated on the bubble before Jason Koon (8th), and Jonathan Depa (7th) fell short of the final table. Dominik Nitsche would hold the slightest of chip leads over Andrew Robl, while Ryan Tosoc, Isaac Haxton, Maurice Hawkins, and Cary Katz rounded out the remainder of the final table. Day 2 final table action will be live streamed on PokerGO, while updates will be provided right here on PokerNews once play begins at 12 p.m. (PDT).

Koon Busted After "Picking Off" Value-Bluff

Nível 2 : 500/1,000, 1,500 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Jason Koon bet 6,000 from the button on {k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and Brandon Adams made it 23,000, the original size of the pot, from the cutoff. Koon called and they saw a {10-Diamonds} turn, which checked through. On the {3-Clubs} river, Adams used a time extension then shoved all in for 46,500. Koon called instantly and Adams moved to exit, turning over {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

"You're good," Koon said, showing {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

Koon was left with 6,000 and busted the next hand, immediately reentering upon losing his crumbs.

Marchese Doubles Through Hernandez

Nível 4 : 1,000/1,500, 2,000 ante
Tom Marchese
Tom Marchese

Cary Katz opened under the gun to 4,000 and Laz Hernandez three-bet the cutoff to 12,000. From the small blind, Tom Marchese cold four-bet to 35,000 and Katz quickly folded.

Hernandez asked to see Marchese's chips, and after that he slid out a stack of chips amounting to a five-bet of 117,000. Marchese shoved for 210,000, and Hernandez called.

Hernandez: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Marchese: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The dealer spread a {K-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} board, and Marchese held on for the double.

Haxton Doubles Through Greenberg

Nível 6 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Ike Haxton
Ike Haxton

Fresh off his short-deck win, Isaac Haxton hopped into the $25K and got a double in the first big pot we saw him play. He got in a raising war with Larry Greenberg and wound up all in with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} against {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. The {10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop meant a queen was no longer good for Greenberg, and he was the one who needed help after the {k-Diamonds} turned. A {q-Clubs} river gave Haxton the nuts, and Greenberg shipped over 164,000.

Hernandez Eliminated by Negreanu

Laz Hernandez
Laz Hernandez

Laz Hernandez shoved his last 17,000 in from middle position and John Hennigan called in the cutoff. Tom Marchese called on the button, as did Daniel Negreanu and Ali Imsirovic in the blinds.

The flop landed {7-Spades}{A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and action checked to Hennigan who bet 40,000. Marchese folded, but Negreanu moved all in for 70,000 and Imsirovic folded as Hennigan called.

Hernandez: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Hennigan: {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Negreanu: {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The turn and river landed the {10-Hearts} and {7-Hearts}, and Negreanu more then doubled while simultaneously sending Hernandez to the rail.

Kenney Shows One

Brynn Kenney
Brynn Kenney

Two players checked to Bryn Kenney on {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and he bet 23,000 into about 50,000 from under the gun. Big blind Dan Smith called. Smith check-called 34,000 more on the {5-Diamonds} turn, bringing a {j-Spades} river. Smith checked and Kenny fired 83,000.

Smith tanked, using his last time extension, but decided to give it up.

"Do me a favor, Bryn," he said, flicking {q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. "If you got me with a bluff, just shove it right in my face."

Kenney looked at first one card, then the other.

"You can pick one," he said.

Smith reached over and turned up the {8-Clubs}.

Smith Eliminates Davies

Nível 12 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Seth Davies
Seth Davies

Seth Davies was all in from the cutoff for about 120,000 when we got to his table, having been put at risk by Dan Smith in the small blind.

Davis: {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Smith: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} improved both players but Smith's kings led. The {5-Diamonds} and {6-Clubs} were bricks.

"Gee gee," Smith said.
