Time to Kick It Up at the 2018 Poker Masters with Event #2: $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em

Welcome to the ARIA Resort & Casino, and the 2018 Poker Masters for Event 2: $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em.

Friday saw the kick-off of the 2018 Poker Masters live from the PokerGO Studio as 69 players took part in Event #1 to create a prize pool of $690,000 that awarded payouts to the top ten players. A monster hand on the bubble saw a short stacked Tom Marchese eliminated in 11th, while Matthias Eibinger's queens would be outdrawn by Brandon Adams' tens when the majority of the money entered the turn on a final board of {8-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. As Eibinger exited in 10th for $20,700, Adams was catapulted into the overwhelming chip lead.

Cary Katz (9th), Ali Imsirovic (8th), and David Eldridge (7th) all were sent to the rail before play finished for the night with just six players remaining in Event #1. Adams continued to hold onto the chip lead although Germany's Rainer Kempe would close the gap to trail by just five big blinds. David Peters and Cord Garcia with around average in chips, while Brian Green and Isaac Haxton round out the bottom two chip counts. Day 2 final table action will be live streamed on PokerGO, while updates will be provided right here on PokerNews once play begins at 12 p.m. (PDT).

Unlike the inaugural running of the Poker Masters where the Purple Jacket was decided using total earnings, the 2018 Poker Masters will use the High Roller of the Year scoring system to award the coveted Poker Masters Purple Jacket. Here is the breakdown of the points:

Event #2: $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em is a two-day event that will play down to a final table of six players on Day 1 and will begin at 2 p.m. (PDT). Players will begin with 125,000 in chips and levels will last 30 minutes with a 10-minute break every three levels. Kurganov Busted First Again

Nível 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

Igor Kurganov was the first player to go bust in Event #1, and he followed suit in Event #2.

This time, he bet 11,500 into 17,500 on the river from the big blind. The board read {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Brian Rast moved all in, covering Kurganov's 65,000 or so. Kurganov used a time extension then dropped in calling chips.

Rast showed {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for the flopped flush and Kurganov flung his cards into the muck.

"Ace-ten," he said. "Guess I can catch a flight now."

Four Bets on the Flop for Imsirovic

Nível 3 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Ali Imsirovic
Ali Imsirovic

From the button, Rainer Kempe raised to 5,000 and Ali Imsirovic called in the big blind.

The flop landed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Imsirovic checked to Kempe who bet 3,500. Imsirovic responded with a check-raise to 9,500, and Kempe made it 19,500 to go.

Imsirovic wasn't done there as he made it four bets to go and 30,000.

Kempe opted for a fold, and Imsirovic collected the pot and then showed the {3-Hearts}.

A Question to Ponder

Action is a bit slow on Table 3 at the moment, but the conversation is pretty lively. A prop is being discussed the likes of which we've never heard, but that's apparently been put in action a few times recently in cash games.

We didn't catch the entire discussion, but from the sound of things, the question is thus: what's the smallest denomination of chips you would put into your mouth if you got to keep all of the chips at the end of 30 seconds?

Daniel Negreanu doesn't have to worry much about his bankroll considering he's one of the top all-time money earners in poker, so it's no surprise he said his cutoff would be $5,000 or $1,000. Apparently, some have done it quite a bit cheaper, though. Jared Jaffee said he's seen it done with $10 chips, and the word is some individuals have managed to cram upwards of 30.

Negreanu Eliminated by Rast

From the cutoff, Daniel Negreanu opened to 6,500 and both Rainer Kempe and Brandon Adams called from the button and small blind.

Brian Rast was in the big blind, and he three-bet to 25,000 before Negreanu quickly announced he was all in for 103,500. Kempe and Adams folded, and Rast deliberated and was forced to use a time extension chip before he called.

Negreanu: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Rast: {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}

The dealer spread a {J-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} board, and Negreanu was eliminated just shy of the break.

Bonomo Orders a Double-Double With Cheese

Nível 11 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Justin Bonomo shoved all in for 51,000 in the cutoff. Big blind Jared Jaffee peeked at his cards and flicked in a chip.

Bonomo: {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Jaffee: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Bonomo was dominated but hit the four-card flush as {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts} hit the felt.

The next hand, Bonomo opened for 12,000 and Michael Dyer made it 34,000 in the next seat. Bonomo slid in calling chips. The {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop prompted him to shove all in and Dyer quickly called.

Dyer: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Bonomo: {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Bonomo was drawing but had live outs to pairs. He hit both of those as the {8-Diamonds} turn was followed by a {7-Clubs} river. He collected 77,000 from Dyer.
