Nikolay Komcharokov leads field into Day 3
Nikolay Komcharokov leads field into Day 3

When play resumed at noon, the 60 hopefuls who advanced after Day 1 were joined by another six entrants to boost the overall field of the record-breaking PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour Deauville €10,300 High Roller event to 128 entries. After 10 one-hour levels, only 12 would remain, however four of them have less than four big blinds for Day 3 after what was a crazy last four hands.

Leading the field was Nikolay Komcharokov with 1,145,000 in chips, and the Russian is the only player above a million, which Robin Ylitalo (998,000) missed by one ante. Ivan Luca was in third place with 944,000 after cracking the pocket jacks of Tobias Peters with pocket fours to leave the Dutchman with less than two antes for Day 3.

Jean-Noel Thorel (912,000) received a huge double up through Garret Gruener (16,000) just before the last three hands of the day were announced, and the American will return with less than one big blind. The penultimate hand on Table 18 then saw a three-way all-in clash that ended in the triple up of Joao Ribeiro (866,000), reducing Josip Simunic (73,000) and Davidi Kitai (65,000) to less than four big blinds for the final.

Among the early casualties to join the rail before the money were Team PokerStars Pro's Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Eugene Katchalov, Team PokerStars Pro Online's Vicente Delgado, and current EPT player of the year contender Joao Vieira. Former PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champion Dimitar Danchev, EPT Vienna champion Oleksii Khoroshenin, Ivan Soshnikov, Sergio Aido, and Adrian Mateos also left empty-handed, and then Dominik Nitsche was sent to the rail two spots shy of the money. The bubble burst in Level 17 when Jesper Feddersen could not improve with ace-ten versus ace-queen.

Five players busted within the money: Jonathan Little (17th), Fabio Sperling (16th), Vladimir Troyanovskiy (15th), Artur Koren (14th), and Roman Korenev (13th) all received a portion of the €1,228,800 prize pool. The remaining 12 players are guaranteed at least €22,110 but all eyes are set on the €309,170 first-place payout. In addition to the title and cash prize, the winner of the EPT Deauville High Roller will receive an exclusive watch worth more than €5,000 from luxury Swiss brand SLYDE.

Play resumes at 12 p.m. local time in Level 21 at blinds of 10,000/20,000 with an ante of 3,000. Four players are under four big blinds, and a fifth is less than 11 big blinds. That means plenty of action is guaranteed, so make sure to tune back into PokerNews for the conclusion of this grand event.

Joao Ribeiro - Davidi Kitai

In the second last hand of play on table 18, Josip Simunic raised to 35,000 and Joao Ribeiro moved all in for 292,000 out of the small blind. Davidi Kitai reshoved out of the big blind for 367,000 and the action was back on Simunic, who had around the same stack as Kitai. He tanked for several minutes and even apologized to his opponents for taking as long: "I am not slow-rolling."

Eventually Simunic grabbed a stack of chips and put it forward.

Simunic: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
Kitai: {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}
Ribeiro: {A-Spades} {10-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {10-Hearts} to give the Portuguese a massive triple up and leave both Kitai and Simunic very short.

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Roman Korenev - 13th Place
Roman Korenev - 13th Place

Action folded round to Roman Korenev and he shoved for his last 120,000. He just had to get through Josip Simunic in the big blind but he liked his cards enough to call and put Korenev at risk of elimination.

Korenev had {k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and Simunic the baby pair {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}.

A run out of {2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{q-Spades} saw the fives hold to bust Korenev who had been cruising along until just before the break and was now suddenly on the rail towards the end of Day 2’s play.

Robin Ylitalo - One Million Chips

Robin Ylitalo opend for 22,000 and Garret Gruener made the call in the small blind. Roman Korenev made it 38,000 from the big blind and the decision was back on Ylitalo who raised him back to 100,000. Gruener made the fold.

Korenev cut out some more chips and five-bet to 168,000 and Ylitalo’s response was to move all in. Korenev wasn’t loving life but felt he couldn’t fold now he had come this far and called it off.

Ylitalo showed {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} with Korenev tabling {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}.

The cards fell {3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

Korenev was almost felted while Ylitalo breached the one million chip mark.

Artur Koren

In the last hand of the level, Artur Koren three-bet shoved with his short stack and got called by Fady Kamar with {K-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. Koren had the slightly superior {A-Clubs} {7-Clubs} but couldn't fade the board of {J-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {9-Spades} {7-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}, giving his opponent a straight. For his efforts, the German receives €20,280.

Vladimir Troyanovskiy raised to 26,000 and Eric Sfez moved all in out of the blinds and with the superior stack. The Russian called off for what appeared to be around 180,000 chips with {A-Spades} {8-Diamonds} and had a kicker problem against the {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} of Sfez.

The board ran out safely for the Frenchman in {9-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {4-Spades} {10-Hearts} and Troyanovskiy was sent to the rail in 15th place for €20,280.

The Davidi Show

Nível 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Davidi Kitai
Davidi Kitai

Roman Korenev opened for 20,000 and Jean-Noel Thorel called before Davidi Kitai also tossed in the chips for a call. Garret Gruener then made it 50,000 from the small blind and Korenev called. Thorel put out the calling chips and Kitai did the same.

The flop was {j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades} and it was checked to Kitai who bet a small 30,000. Gruener was the only player as the other two players folded.

The {7-Diamonds} turn saw no action and on the river card {3-Hearts} Gruener checked and again Kitai bet 30,000.

Gruener shrugged and put out the chips to call. Kitai turned over his {j-Spades}{10-Spades} with confidence and it was good as Gruener mucked.

The table was suitably impressed. “Weird hand” Tobias Peters said.

“Why would you ever value bet that river?” Robin Ylitalo

“You doubled up without putting your stack at risk." Josip Simunic marveled.

Nikolay Komcharokov raised to 25,000 and Eric Sfez three-bet to 64,000 from the button. From one seat over, Fabio Sperling four-bet shoved for a total of 235,000 and the action folded back to initial raiser Komcharokov. He asked for the three-bet amount and the all in once again, quietly sat there and then announced all in himself. Sfez took some time before mucking the cards and they flipped them over.

Sperling: {K-Clubs} {K-Spades}
Komcharokov: {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}

The {7-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} flop gave the Russian additional outs with the flush draw while nothing changed on the {7-Spades} turn. The {5-Hearts} river completed the flush for Komcharokov and Sperling headed to the payout desk to collect €19,290 for his efforts.

Jesper Feddersen moved all in from the cut-off at this short-handed table and Nikolay Komcharokov made the call from the button. The blinds folded and it was Feddersen who was the player at risk.

Action was halted while the tournament director could come to announce the action as the crowd waited for the cards to be turned over.

Feddersen: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Komcharokov: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The cards ran out {5-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

Both players hit the flop but the superior hand of Komcharokov held up to eliminate Feddersen on the bubble.

The remaining players are all now guaranteed €19,290.
