Chin Wei Lim Leads EPT Barcelona €25,000 6+ Hold'em High Roller

Nível 10
Chin Wei Lim
Chin Wei Lim

The first-ever €25,000 6+ Hold'em High Roller at the 2019 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona attracted a total of 23 entries generating a prize pool of over €550,000. Expect that number to increase further still, with late registration and unlimited re-entry here in Barcelona open until the start of Day 2.

From the starting field, just 12 players remain in with a shot of being crowned the inaugural champion tomorrow, with Chin Wei Lim in pole position.

He bagged 903,000 to be well clear of Yake Wu (680,000) in second place. Then comes Sam Greenwood (389,000) and Mike Watson (268,000).

Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Dario Sammartino is the only previous winner of a 6+ Hold'em event on the European Poker Tour, but his start to the €25,000 High Roller was far from ideal, busting all three of his bullets and having to re-enter in around 30 minutes.

However, his second bullet went a lot better and he bagged 221,000

Mikhail Rudoy needed three bullets before eventually bagging up 153,000, with Daniel Dvoress (132,000), Cary Katz (162,000), Borys Turista (100,000) and Isaac Haxton (186,000) all firing twice before making it through.

Players who failed to bag on Day 1 included Sam Higgs, Seth Davies and Ahadpur Khangah but they may still opt to jump back in before play resumes on 26th August at 12 p.m.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for continued coverage of the EPT Barcelona Festival including the Main Event which gets underway tomorrow!

There was a three-way all in between Jochanan Flink, Isaac Haxton and Michael Soyza.

Jochanan Flink: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Isaac Haxton: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Michael Soyza: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

"OK," said Flink, seeing he was ahead.

"What do you mean OK?" said Daniel Dvoress. "You're fucked!"

The flop came {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} giving Soyza the lead. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and although the river was the {9-Clubs}, ensuring Flink the side pot, Haxton had rivered a straight to triple up.

Lim Eliminates Higgs; Flink Triples Up

Nível 8
Jochanan Flink
Jochanan Flink

On a {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop there were three players in the hand and 35,000 in the pot. Sam Higgs checked to Jochanan Flink who moved all inf or 46,000. Chin Wei Lim was the table big stack and moved all in over the top.

Higgs tanked and used a time extension before calling.

Sam Higgs: {j-Spades}{k-Spades}
Jochanan Flink: {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Chin Wei Lim: {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Flink was ahead and in line for a triple up, with Higgs needing a spade or a ten to double through Lim. The {8-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} runout was a brick for Higgs handing Flink a triple up and the rest of his stack headed to Lim.

Sammartino Doubles Through Turista

Nível 7
Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Dario Sammartino held {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and was hoping to hold against the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} of Borys Turista.

There was a jack on the {j-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop but it also gave Sammartino an open-ended straight draw. The {7-Diamonds} completed his straight draw and the river was the {6-Clubs} handing the Italian a double up.

Mike Watson has also re-entered with just over 90 minutes left in the day.

Who is Ready for the €25,000 6+ Hold'em High Roller?

Casino Barcelona
Casino Barcelona

It's been four months since the first-ever 6+ Hold'em event, better known as Short Deck, debuted on the PokerStars European Poker Tour. A €2,150 event at EPT Monte Carlo attracted a total of 35 entries and was won by Italian Dario Sammartino for €23,100.

Tonight, the high rollers get a chance at the format for the very first time here at the Casino Barcelona, with the €25,000 6+ Hold'em High Roller getting underway at 7 p.m.

Just like most other short deck tournaments around the world, this tournament comes with a Triple Chance, where players may start with either 50,000/100,000 or 150,000 chips from the start of the tournament. All chips must be claimed before the close of registration which is at the start of Level 11 at the start of Day 2.

For those new to the game, there are some changes to the format in 6+ Hold'em. Each player will post an ante, and only the button posts a blind. The left of the button will be first to act. All of the 2 to 5's are removed to make a total deck just 36 cards. A flush beats a full house, and just like in regular Hold'em an Ace can play high or lower, meaning that while the highest straight is still T-J-Q-K-A, the lowest straight is now: A-6-7-8-9.

Here is the format for Day 1:
