Dietrich Fast Grabs Overall Chip Lead After Day 1b of the PCA Main Event

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Dietrich Fast

The 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure resumed on Friday with Day 1b of the Main Event. A total of 587 players took to the felt and after eight levels of play, 368 of them bagged up and will join the 139 Day 1a survivors to play on Day 2. Leading the way is Dietrich Fast with 208,200

Late in the day, Fast and Curt Kohlberg collided in a pot that saw Fast nearly reach the 200K chip mark. The chips went in after the river of a board reading {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Kohlberg showed {A-}{K-Diamonds} for a pair of aces. Fast, however, tabled pocket sixes for sixes full of tens to soar to the top of the chip counts en route to bagging up the chip lead.

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu also bagged a solid stack of 85,400. He added a chunk of chips towards the end of the night after flopping a set with {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} on a {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} board. Atanas Kavrikov was unable to get away from {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and Negreanu held up to score the elimination. Other notables who will be returning on Day 2 include Stephen Chidwick (101,000), Pratyush Buddiga (84,300), Shawn Buchanan (82,600), Dylan Linde (79,200), Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari (76,400), Mike Leah (68,300), Aaron Massey (61,900) and Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand Grospellier (32,300).

The day did not go as well for many other notable players. 2012 PCA Main Event runner-up Kyle Julius got his chips in with {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} against David Robinson's {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and despite making a set, Julius was eliminated when the board ran out {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Spades}, giving Robinson an ace-high straight. Others who were sent to the rail today include MMA fighter Tito Ortiz, Darren Elias, Calvin Anderson, Carlos Mortensen, Bill Perkins, Eddy Sabat, Jason Koon and Paul Newey.

Play resumes with Day 2 at noon local time Saturday. Registration remains open until the start of play and shortly after that, we will have the prize pool and payouts to share. Until then, get caught up with the full story behind Steve O'Dwyer's Super High Roller victory, as Donnie Peters and Remko Rinkema analyze his huge score.

"Who Cares About That Math S***?"

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Daniel Negreanu got lucky on the flop.
Daniel Negreanu got lucky on the flop.

"Goin' for the big blue ones, huh?" Daniel Negreanu asked his opponent, who was reaching into his stack.

Negreanu had checked from the small blind in a 16,000 pot against his big blind opponent, Atanas Kavrikov, who bet 9,000 on the {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Negreanu pushed all in, putting his opponent at risk for what looked to be around 20,000 more.

"Are you running that good?" Kavrikov asked, placing his stack in the middle and showing {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}.

Negreanu revealed he was indeed, as he he'd flopped a set with {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. The board ran out clean for Negreanu with the {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

"I don't like folding pairs, man," Negreanu said with a smile. "Because you can always flop trips."

A player pointed out that Negreanu may have been getting the right odds.

"Nooo," Negreanu said. "But who cares about that math s***?"

On the {j-Diamonds} river, Rabinowitz checked once more and saw Buddiga set him all in for about 20,000. Rabinowitz called immediately, and Buddiga showed him {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flopped straight. Rabinowitz revealed that he'd flopped top set with {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

After a {6-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, Philip Sousa bet 5,600 from the big blind and got raised to 16,500 by Dan Shak. A third player folded, an Sousa shoved in for about 25,000. Shak called.

Shak: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Sousa: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The board paired on the {6-Diamonds} turn, missing Shak, and a {j-Clubs} wasn't enough on the river.

Benjamin Pollak just grabbed a seat at another table.

We found Mike Dentale, who had checked a board of {3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, considering a bet of 12,500 from Daniel Negreanu, who had just sat down on Dentale's left. The two talkative players exchanged some words.

"So sick," Dentale said.

Negreanu cackled in response.

"I'm gonna lay down a monster."

Dentale flicked {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} into the pot for a set. Negreanu slapped down the {7-Clubs} and mucked his other card.

"How do I get coolered like that?" Dentale wondered aloud. "First hand he sits down, I get set up."

The Summer of George is Over

Nível 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Jason Alexander
Jason Alexander

Jason Alexander, actor famous for portraying George Costanza on the hit 1990's sitcom Seinfeld, has been eliminated from play early in the third level of the day.

On Alexander's final hand, he and Gregor Waltermann looked down at a completed board of {J-Clubs}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. With 2,550 already in the middle, Waltermann led out for a pot-sized bet of 2,500. Alexander came over the top with a raise to 6,000 and Waltermann thought for a moment. In the end, Waltermann came over the top with a three-bet to 16,000. Alexander responded by shoving all in and Waltermann instantly called.

Alexander triumphantly rolled over {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for a full house of jacks full of sevens. Unfortunately for Alexander, Waltermann had that beat with {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for quad sevens.

"That's beautiful!" said a stunned Alexander. "Now I've got a story to tell!"

Alexander took his leave from the tournament area while Waltermann increased his stack to about 49,000.
