2023 WSOP Europe Main Event Sets New Attendance Record; Kabir Tops 191 Survivors on Day 2

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

It was a busy day in Europe's biggest poker arena at the King's Resort in Rozvadov and the sixth edition of the series on Czech soil resulted in yet another attendance record. The marquee 2023 WSOP Europe €10,350 Main Event attracted a field of 817 entries and generated a staggering prize pool of €7,761,500.

One year ago, a new record had been set at the very same venue with 763 entries, a figure that was easily surpassed. It follows into the footsteps of a successful summer series in Las Vegas, which culminated in 10,043 entries for the 2023 WSOP Main Event. The European edition continues the successful path of the World Series of Poker in the current year, which has been made possible thanks to nearly 400 qualifiers throughout major live events and satellites in Rozvadov.

"We sincerely thank each and every one of you for choosing to be a part of WSOPE Europe at King's Resort. Your game and emotions were the highlight of this wonderful festival. Special thanks also to our great staff and WSOP team for their invaluable contribution and hard work. We wish all the players in the main event the best of luck and look forward to seeing the new champion of the year, as well as looking forward to more festivals and records together in the future," Federico Brunato, Director of Poker at King's Resort told PokerNews after the new record attendance was officially confirmed.

Seven levels were played on Day 2 and the late registration and single reentry option was available for the first five 90-minute levels, during which another 140 new entries emerged to sail past the previous record. When all chips were bagged up, Keneshka Kabir (1,600,000) and Andrea Radicchi (1,502,000) led the way ahead of the 2021 WSOPE Main Event third place finisher Alexander Tkatschew (1,277,000).

Among the big stacks for Day 3 are also Leon Sturm (1,030,000) and Kasparas Klezys (970,000), both of which can be found in the overnight top ten.

Defending champion Omar Eljach (663,000) and last year's runner-up Jonathan Pastore (600,000) advanced with above-average stacks, which also applies for Maria Lampropulos (888,000), Viktor Blom (700,000), Dario Sammartino (681,000), the 2020 WSOP Online Main Event champion Stoyan Madanzhiev (672,000) and Anson Tsang (548,000) to name all but a few big names with plenty of chips at their disposal.

With 191 survivors after fourteen levels of play, the marquee tournament of the 2023 WSOPE is still quite far away from the money bubble. Nearly two-thirds of the remaining contenders will earn at least €16,500 for their efforts if they finish inside the top 123 spots.

A whole slate of WSOP bracelet winners saw their hopes of a repeat victory end prematurely such as Hossein Ensan, Alexandre Reard, Martin Kabrhel, Ilija Savevski, Alexandru Papazian, Besim Hot, Sokratis Linaras, Jerry Odeen, Jan-Peter Jachtmann, Jessica Teusl, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier to name all but a few. Ensan first ran into pocket queens before he then came up second-best with king-jack against the ace-nine of Nils Pudel.

Hossein Ensan was among the many Day 2 casualties

Many other notables of the international poker scene bowed out throughout the day with more than fifty percent of the field joining the rail. They have one more chance to take a shot at the coveted WSOP gold bracelet as the final starting day of Event #15: €550 NLH Closer awaits of 3 p.m. local time the following day.

The money bubble in the 2023 WSOPE Main Event is expected to burst mid-way through Day 3, which is slated to play a total of seven and a half levels of 90 minutes each as of noon local time on Monday, November 13, 2023. Recommencing blinds will be 4,000-8,000 with a big blind ante of 8,000 and there will be a break every level. Below are the full payouts at a glance:

Rezaei Wakes Up With Jacks

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Armin Rezaei
Armin Rezaei

Andrea Radicchi raised to 12,000 under the gun and Hal Rotholz called in the hijack. Agostino Scozzari then moved all in for 450,000 on the button as action folded to Armin Rezaei in the big blind. He also shoved for 390,000 and Radicchi folded, while Rotholz laid down what he later claimed was ace-king.

Armin Rezaei: JJ
Agostino Scozzari: A10

Rezaei was ahead with his jacks as the board ran out K52Q7, keeping him in the lead and earning last year's finalist a double up with just a few minutes remaining in the night. Rotholz could only laugh after the hand about missing an opportunity to bust both players.

Gallo Eliminated by Lampropulos

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Gianluca Gallo raised to 13,000 and received three callers in total, which led to the 822 flop. It checked to Faramarz Safari who bet 28,000 and Maria Lampropulos called, Paulius Vaitiekunas folded. Gallo then check-raised to 60,000 and Safari folded, while Lampropulos called.

Gallo jammed the 8 turn for 108,000 and Lampropulos snap-called.

Gianluca Gallo: AA
Maria Lampropulos: A8

Gallo tossed his chips into the middle of the table in disgust and quickly exited once the K river officially ended his run in the tournament just shy of making Day 3.

Blom Plays the Waiting Game

Viktor Blom
Viktor Blom

Christian Dressler raised to 12,000 from the button and Viktor Blom three-bet to 53,000 from the big blind. Dressler then four-bet jammed for 215,000 and Blom called quicker than lightning with the covering stack.

Christian Dressler: 1010
Viktor Blom: AA

Blom had Dressler drawing dead on the turn on 478A2, and he added some fresh chips to his stack.

"This is how I play, I just wait for aces," explained the admittedly infamously passive "Isildur1" as he was stacking up.

Brewer Moves In Last Blind

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer

Chris Brewer was left with just 6,000, enough to cover the big blind, and put in his last chips under the gun. Agostino Scozzari called, while Jun Beum Chun raised to 30,000 in middle position. The rest of the table folded, but Scozzari then reshoved and Chun got out of the way.

Chris Brewer: 54
Agostino Scozzari: AK

Scozzari made two pair on the QKQ flop and Brewer was already out of his seat and headed for the exit by the time the dealer flipped over the K turn and 2 river.

Tsang Busts Zaskodny With Queen-High

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Anson Tsang
Anson Tsang

Lukas Zaskodny, Anson Tsang, and Bruno Desimoni went to the flop of 3108 when Zaskodny bet 20,000 in the cutoff.

Tsang then raised to 53,000 in the big blind and Desimoni folded. Zaskodny, though, moved all in for around 150,000 and Tsang called.

Lukas Zaskodny: J9
Anson Tsang: Q2

Both players had draws, Zaskodny with a straight draw and Tsang chasing a flush. The A turn and 3 river didn't improve either player and Tsang won the pot with queen-high to send Zaskodny to the rail.

Amsellem Puts Lampropulos to the Test

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Jacob Amsellem
Jacob Amsellem

Paulius Vaitiekunas opened to 12,000 from under the gun. Jacob Amsellem called from one seat over and Renat Bohdanov did the same from the cutoff. Maria Lampropulos three-bet to 65,000 from the button and only Amsellem called.

Amsellem checked-raised to 80,000 on the K64 flop after Lampropulos bet 28,000. The latter called.

Amsellem then emptied the clip and jammed for 352,000 and Lampropulos went deep into the tank for over five moments. In the end she returned her cards to the dealer and conceded the pot.

"Show the bluff," cried the other players at the table.

Amsellem offered a card to Lampropulos and she turned over the 3 which drew some "oooo's."

Amsellem then showed the 3 to show he had taken the ambitious line with just a pair of threes.

Christian Dressler opened to 13,000 from the hijack. Adrian Mateos and Viktor Blom called him from the cutoff and button. Christian Rudolph also came along from the big blind.

Action checked to Mateos on the Q74 flop. He bet 15,000 and only Rudolph called.

Rudolph then led out for 55,000 on the 3 turn and Mateos decided to stick around.

Rudolph then check-folded to a bet 123,000 on the 8 river.

Anastasakis Wakes Up With Aces

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Matas Cimbolas raised to 14,000 under the gun and Ioannis Angelou-Konstas called in middle position. Dmitrijs Prohorovs then moved all in for 165,000 on the button.

[Removed:435] in the big blind asked for a count before calling. Cimbolas also gave it some thought before mucking, while Angelou-Konstas quickly got out of the way.

Dmitrijs Prohorovs: 1010
[Removed:435]: AA

Prohorovs had shoved right into Anastasakis' aces and watched helplessly as the K2529 board didn't provide him any help.

This table, which also included Leon Sturm, Vivian Saliba, and Alex Peffly, broke immediately following this hand.

Rudolph Scores a Double Knockout

Nível 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Roman Hrabec got his last 100,000 in the middle from early position, Antoine Vranken pushed for around 50,000 in the cutoff, and button Christian Rudolph had them both covered and at risk.

Antoine Vranken: K8
Roman Hrabec: AK
Christian Rudolph: 99

The Q54210 board didn't help either Vranken or Hrabec and Rudolph's nines remained in front to send both opponents to the rail.
