Star-Studded Field Advances in Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix; Madsen, Blom, Elezra Top Day 1

The first of two days of Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix at the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe — the first-ever eight-game mix bracelet event since the WSOPE moved to King's Resort — delivered a 71-player field with the elite of the poker world present to shoot for WSOP glory. 26 of them made their way to the second day, which will resume at 3 p.m. local time on Friday, October 18.

Four-time bracelet winner Jeff Madsen headlines a star-studded field with 336,500 in chips. None other than online legend "Isildur1", Viktor Blom, is hot on Madsen's coattails with 302,000. Another four-time bracelet winner, Eli Elezra, rounds out the top three with 252,000. Phil Hellmuth (145,000), Daniel Negreanu (84,500), and Jeff Lisandro (44,500) also made their way through to the final day. Robert Campbell, who's leading the hotly-contested WSOP Player of the Year race, also advanced to Day 2 with a stack of 45,500.

With 71 players, the event fell short of the €250,000 guarantee, providing a sweet overlay for those that showed up for this event. With unlimited re-entries allowed for the duration of nine levels, plenty of players fired multiple shells in order to spin up a stack, but the likes of Shaun Deeb, Chris Ferguson, Alex Livingston, Anthony Zinno, Benny Glaser, and Phil Hui all saw one or more attempts come up short.

The 26 remaining players will be back in King's Resort at 3 p.m. local time and play down until a winner is crowned. Levels remain 40 minutes throughout the tournament and PokerNews will be right back on the floor to cover the who's who of the poker world in their quest for WSOP gold. Joao Vieira, who won his first WSOP bracelet this summer in Event #70: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, is making a strong bid for a second piece of hardware. The Portuguese pro moved up over the 300k mark after knocking out Ismael Bojang in Pot-Limit Omaha.

Already at showdown with the board reading , Vieira had in front of him for a set of sevens. Bojang had for two pair and was eliminated.

Hellmuth Knocks Out Hui

Before the hand, Phil Hui was already on a dangerously low stack. After the second draw, Phil Hellmuth had a bet of 4,000 in front of him and Hui, with 3,900 behind, considered his options. He eventually opted to draw two with while Hellmuth stood pat.

Hui caught the first and already made his way out before the came along. Hellmuth's hand of was briefly revealed but easily strong enough to take the 2019 WSOP $50K PPC champion out. Hellmuth is now among the top stacks in the room.

On fourth street, Pidun caught an open pair of kings. He bet, Weng quickly folded, and Blom called. Pidun bet fifth street and Blom called.

On sixth street, Blom had four to a flush showing. Pidun, first to act, opted to check. Blom bet and Pidun called.

On the river, Pidun checked and Blom checked as well. It wasn't the latter but the former who ended up with the goods, as Pidun rolled over for a king-high flush and the only qualifying low.

Mixed Game Enthusiasts, Attention! Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix Kicks Off at 4 p.m.

After popular demand, mixed games aficionados around the poker world rejoiced when the WSOP and King's Resort expanded on the initial 2019 World Series of Poker Europe offering by adding two mixed games events to the schedule. It's the first time an eight-game mixed event graces the WSOPE schedule since finding a permanent home in King's.

While the big one, the €25,500 Mixed Games Championship will begin on October 21, the more affordably priced Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix starts today for those apt at different poker games.

Event #5 is a two-day event with a €250,000 guarantee and follows traditional WSOP rules for 8-game mixed events. This means the following eight games will be in the rotation.

There are 14 levels of 40 minutes each on tap for Day 1, with 15-minute breaks after every three levels. Late registration will be open for the first 9 levels (~10:45 p.m. local time). The event is played in a six-handed format and features unlimited reentries. Games will rotate every six hands and players will receive 50,000 in chips to work with.

Plenty of notable players have journeyed to Rozvadov and, with a smaller field than regular NL Hold'em events, will no doubt have circled this one in their agenda as a fantastic shot at a bracelet. Allen Kessler is among those confirmed to join today, but stars such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Shaun Deeb, Julien Martini, Roland Israelashvili, and Anthony Zinno, all present at King's Resort, are all expected to jump into this event as well.
