Matt Berkey Brings a Big Lead Into Day 4

Matt Berkey
Matt Berkey

They are going to overtime in the Little One for One Drop as 12 players are returning for an unscheduled fourth day to find out who will be winning the final WSOP bracelet event of the summer. The big chip leader is also the biggest name left in the field: Matt Berkey. Berkey was near the top of the counts for most of yesterday, but hit a late surge in the last two levels that saw him bag a massive stack of 12 million. His next-closest competitor, Giuseppe Pantaleo, has less than half of that with 5.175 million.

The other big story in the field today is Dejuante Alexander. He came oh so close to his first WSOP bracelet earlier this summer when he finished runner-up in the Millionaire Maker to Pablo Mariz. Alexander took a tough beat heads up when his aces were cracked by the pocket threes of Mariz. He will be looking for redemption here today, but he has some work to do with a below-average stack.

Below you will see the seating chart for the remaining 12 players today. The action will be picking up at 2 p.m. and Pokernews will be doing updates until a winner is decided. Once they get down to the final nine players, hand-for-hand updates will be provided, so make sure you come back then for all of the action!

Dejuante Alexander moved all in for his final 1.7 million from the button, and Alexander Papadopoulos tanked for a bit before folding. However, Samuel Vonkennel was in the big blind, and he snap-called as soon as he saw his cards.

Alexander: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Vonkennel: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The board came down {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}, and the kings held to send one of the most accomplished players left to the rail.

On the first hand of the unofficial final table, Alexander Haber moved all in for his final 900,000 with {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Samuel Vonkennel called to put him at risk with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}. Vonkennel yelled for paint throughout the {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop and {6-Hearts} turn, and he got his wish with the {Q-Clubs} river.

Vonkennel clapped his hands at the site of the river lady, as he jumped his stack up to 5.2 million.

Hand #16: Alexandros Papadopoulos was on the button and shoved all in for about 2,500,000. Matt Berkey thought for a second and then folded. Martin Lesjoe was in the big blind and quickly called with {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. Papadopoulos had {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Lesjoe won the hand, eliminating Papadopoulos.

Hand #27: Matt Berkey opened to 400,000 and Samuel Vonkennel called on the button. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Berkey checked. Vonkennel shoved all in and Berkey snap-called. Berkey showed {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and was ahead of the {8-}{8-} of Vonkennel.

The turn was the {4-Clubs} and the river was the {2-Spades} and Vonkennel was eliminated.

Berkey is now holding almost 20 million of the 45 million chips in play.

Hands #56-59: Lesjoe Doubles Through Berkey Into the Lead

Nível 33 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante
Martin Lesjoe
Martin Lesjoe

Hand #56: Richard Dixon shoved all in, taking the blinds and antes.

Hand #57: Dixon shoved all in, taking the blinds and antes.

Hand #58: Martin Lesjoe raised to 425,000, and he took the blinds and antes.

Hand #59: Lesjoe raised to 425,000 from under the gun, and it folded to Matt Berkey, who called from the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, and Berkey check-called a bet of 425,000 from Lesjoe. Both players checked the {2-Hearts} turn, and the river brought the {Q-Clubs}. Berkey fired out 1.4 million, and Lesjoe thought for a bit before shoving all in.

Berkley asked for an exact count (6.135 million), and he went deep, deep into the tank. After a couple of minutes, he started talking softly to himself. Another two minutes went by before he said, "This might be the biggest laydown I've ever made. I just don't know if I have the heart to do it, though." Another minute went by, and Berkey said, "It would have been so much easier if a heart came." Finally, after about six minutes in the tank, he slapped a stack of chips down for the call.

Lesjoe rolled over {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} for a full house, and Berkey said, "Nice shove," before showing {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

The chips were counted down, and for the first time all day, Berkey was knocked from the top spot.

Ricardo Ramos Eliminated in 7th Place ($76,871)

Nível 34 : 120,000/240,000, 40,000 ante
Ricardo Ramos
Ricardo Ramos

Hand #66: Ricardo Ramos moved all in for his final 1.76 million, and Matt Berkey tanked for a bit in the big blind before he called.

Ramos: {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Berkey: {J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

The flop promised plenty of sweats, coming {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn gave Berkey a straight, but Ramos could still win with a heart or chop with an eight. Sure enough, the {8-Clubs} came on the river, and the rollercoaster hand ended in a chop.

Hand #67: In between these two hands, Giuseppe Pantaleo asked for the first deck scramble of the final table. Ramos moved all in first to act, and Pantaleo moved all in right behind him. Everyone else folded, and the cards were on their backs.

Pantaleo: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Ramos: {K-Spades}{10-Spades}

Despite having a big lead and not being at risk, Pantaleo was the one pacing with his hands on his head, likely having flashbacks to a monster pot he lost last night with aces to a runner-runner flush.

The {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop gave Ramos a pair and more reason for Pantaleo to sweat. However, the {Q-Diamonds} was a great card for him, as Ramos now needed a king and a king only. The river brought the {A-Clubs}, filling Pantaleo up and sending the Brazilian to the rail.

The board ran out {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, and Pantaleo was eliminated in sixth place.

Richard Dixon Eliminated in 5th Place ($133,868)

Richard Dixon

Hand #104: Richard Dixon raised to 700,000, and Adrian Moreno called.

The flop came {k-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}, and both players checked. The turn was the {4-Clubs}, and Moreno checked. Dixon bet 1,700,000, and as Dixon was betting, Moreno was already moving all in. Dixon called and showed {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}, but was behind the {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} of Moreno.

The river was a blank, and Dixon was left with 475,000 after doubling Moreno up.

Hand #105: Dixon went all in for 425,000 and Moreno called from the small blind, while Jimmy Guerrero called from the big.

Both players with chips remaining checked the board down as it ran out {q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and Moreno won the hand with {9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for a straight. Dixon was eliminated.
