14 Years On, Can Ferguson Win Bracelet #6?

Chris Ferguson
Chris Ferguson

Fourteen years ago, Chris Ferguson, having already won the $2,000 Omaha Hi-Lo event, took down the $2,000 Limit Hold'em/Seven Card Stud event at the 2003 World Series of Poker to become what was then one of only a dozen or so players to have won five WSOP bracelets.

Now, Ferguson has a chance to join the six-time winners club, alongside the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Jeff Lissandro, Tedd Forrest, and T. J. Cloutier.

There is added motivation for the 2000 Main Event Champion to finish atop the pile, as he also finds himself in contention for the annual Player of the Year title, currently sitting in fourth place behind John Monnette, John Racener, and Ryan Hughes.

As well as Ferguson, there are a multitude of storylines yet on the final day of Event 72: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship.

In what is promising to be one of the most exciting final tables of the World Series so far, and set against the backdrop of the second flight of the $10,000 Main Event, just seven players will return all in with a shot of taking down the tournament, the bracelet, and $245,451 in prize money.

Leading the way is Perry Friedman who, with a six-figure cash today, will move up over the $1M in lifetime earnings mark. More importantly for him perhaps, it will be his second WSOP bracelet and his first in over 15 years since he took down the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo event at the 33rd annual World Series of Poker back in 2002.

John Monnette, third in the WSOP POY standings, is seeking his second bracelet of the 2017 WSOP, after winning Event #22: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Championship. Also looking for his second bracelet of 2017 is Bryce Yockey after he took down Event #51: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Championship.

Rounding out the final seven players are Sean Mirrasouli, Mike Wattel, and Shaun Deeb. Deeb already has one runner-up finish this series so far, finishing runner-up to Monnette in Event #22, but comes into Day 3 with just one big bet.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the updates as we crown one of the last bracelet winners before the Main Event!

Mike Wattel Leads, Looking for WSOP Bracelet Number Two

Nível 22 : 60,000/120,000, 15,000 ante
Mike Wattel
Mike Wattel

Mike Wattel is currently leading the $10,000 Seven Card Stud final table and is heads-up against five-time WSOP bracelet winner Chris Ferguson.

Wattel won his first bracelet in 1999 in the $1,500 Omaha Eight or Better tournament. Since then, he has four second-place finihes and a third.

Earlier, Perry Friedman asked what the longest is that anyone has gone between winning bracelets? Friedman finished in third and won his first and only bracelet in 2002, so Wattel has waited three years longer. Wattel has over $2 million in WSOP earnings to date, with another $500,000 in winnings elsewhere.

Ferguson's last bracelet came in 2003 when he won a mixed Limit Hold'em/Seven Card Stud event.
