Welcome to Day 3 coverage of Event #6: High Roller for One Drop - $111,111 No-Limit Hold'em.
A total of 130 entries took to the felt, and 23 players remain entering Day 3. A total of $505,555 was generated for One Drop, and the tournament prize pool is $13,722,150. The top 20 places will be paid, with a min-cash set at $166,666. However, each remaining player is looking to capture the first-place prize of $3,686,865 and a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet.
On top of the chip counts entering Day 3 is Bertrand Grospellier with 7,040,000. A late surge on Day 2 catapulted Grospellier to the top of the counts. The man known as "ElkY" got the better of 14-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth in a hand that generated a lot of buzz, helping Grospellier cement his status as chip leader beginning Day 3.
The field is stacked with some of poker's biggest names, two of which have had One Drop success before. Antonio Esfandiari and Dan Colman have each won the Big One for One Drop and remain in the hunt to capture another One Drop title. Also among the remaining field are the aforementioned Hellmuth, 2014 Main Event champion Martin Jacobson, Doug Polk, Scott Seiver, and 2017 bracelet-winner Igor Kurganov.
Cards will be in the air at 2 p.m. and the plan for the day is to play until only nine players remain.
From the hijack, Moritz Dietrich open-shoved for his last 520,000. The cutoff, button, and small blind all folded, but the prize was too good for big blind Scott Seiver to let it go.
Moritz Dietrich:
Scott Seiver:
Dietrich wished Seiver good luck, and that was what he would get. The board ran out and Dietrich exited the tournament area.
The tournament is own to 22 players — two to the money.
Down to just 140,000, Dan Shak shoved from the cutoff once action had folded to him. Phil Hellmuth called from the small blind and big blind Seiver squeezed to 440,000. Hellmuth folded and rolled his eyes as soon as he saw Seiver's hand.
Dan Shak:
Scott Seiver:
The flop came , doing not much for anyone yet. The on the turn, however, did. Shak turned top pair but Seiver had a gutshot to the wheel.
"Shak needs to dodge a deuce to double up," the speaker said.
"Not the deuce...," Shak said.
But it was a deuce that hit. The completed the board and the crowd was in awe. Seiver started collecting the chips while Shak stood there in disbelief. He exited through the side exit. The tournament is now in the money. The remaining 20 players are guaranteed $166,666 from here on out.
The action folded around to Connor Drinan in the small blind who moved all in for 590,000. Dario Sammartino was in the big blind and looked down at his cards, then called.
Sammartino:
Drinan:
Drinan was in trouble and couldn't improve on the board, seeing him leave the tournament in 20th place.
Bertrand Grospellier moved from the feature table to one of the outer tables, to the great joy of Phil Hellmuth who was seeking revenge for some hands late last night.
Having just sat down, Grospellier opened the hijack to 215,000. Small blind Igor Kurganov shoved for 895,000 total and big blind Hellmuth folded after some Hollywooding. Grospellier instantly called.
Igor Kurganov:
Bertrand Grospellier:
While Liv Boeree on the rail asked for an ace like only Davidi Kitai's girlfriend had done before ("Ace! Ace! Ace!), it was to no avail. The board ran out and Kurganov said his goodbyes.
The action folded around to Simon Lam in the small blind who moved all in for 1,120,000. Byron Kaverman was in the big blind and went into the tank for over a minute. He eventually called having Lam barely covered by 35,000.
Kaverman:
Lam:
The board ran out , improving Kaverman to a full house and sending Lam home in 17th place for $166,666.
The remaining 16 players will now redraw for the final two tables.
Dan Colman moved all in for 1,090,000 from the cutoff. As the decision folded around to Chris Moore in the big blind, he asked for a count, then called.
Moore:
Colman:
Colman had the lead with the pocket pair until the board ran out . Moore spiked a jack on the flop to take down the pot, sending the 2014 One Drop champion to the rail in 16th place.
