Matheson's Raises Stump Amirov
Royce Matheson has put a puzzled look on his opponent's face after winning back-to-back pots against Ilkin Amirov. The board was with four players still in the hand and the action was checked around to Amirov on the button. Amirov bet 135,000 and Matheson elected to raise to 505,000. The other two players folded and Amirov asked for a count. He tanked for a minute or so and then tossed his cards away in disbelief.
In the very next hand, Matheson opened with a raise to 52,000 from the cutoff and Amirov three-bet to 150,000 from the big blind. Matheson called and the two players saw the flop. Amirov bet 132,000 and Matheson didn't waste any time moving all in for 1,300,000, putting his opponent at risk.
Amirov thought about what to do for nearly five minutes, scratching his head and asking Matheson all sorts of question trying to get some more information. "Why so much?", "Why don't you just raise a little bit?", "Did you start the hand with a pair?", were all question coming from Amirov.
The only response Matheson could muster was, "That's the puzzle, you need solve it." Amirov would eventually lay his hand down still with a confused look on his face.
