Peter Eichhardt triumphed in this event last year

Already nearly a week in, the 2017 World Series of Poker is in full swing and today Event #12: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em is next up on the schedule.

In 2016, this event attracted 2,016 entrants and generated a prize pool of $2,721,600. Peter Echhardt won this event last year to take home his first WSOP gold bracelet and $438,417. Eichhardt Hails from Stockholm, Sweden and has six WSOP cashes to his name totaling $490,917.

The tournament starts at 11 a.m. local time and players will play ten 60-minute levels before bagging for Day 2. This is a three-day event and there will be a 20-minute break every two levels. Players will start with 7,500 in chips and late registration is open until the end of the dinner break, which is after Level 6 (around 7:10 p.m).

Hawkins Wins the Easy Way

Nível 3 : 75/150, 25 ante
Maurice Hawkins (as seen in previous 2017 event)
Maurice Hawkins (as seen in previous 2017 event)

Maurice Hawkins was in the small blind and limped in. The big blind raised to 450 and Hawkins three-bet to 1,100. The big blind then moved all in for what appeared to be roughly 4,500 and Hawkins snap-called.

Hawkins tabled {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and the big blind showed {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Hawkins eliminated his opponent and continued to chip up.

After the hand, Hawkins exclaimed, "I don't have to do anything, these guys are just giving me chips. I just have to say call and hold." He was referencing how easy the chips came to him while referring to another player on the table who has played a lot of hands and has had to make plays postflop in order to get his chips.

Some Updated Counts and Two More Big Names Enter the Fray

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Allen Kessler (as seen in previous event 2017)
Allen Kessler (as seen in previous event 2017)

First off, Allen Kessler was noted as being down to roughly 1,000 in chips and at last check had upped his stack to 15,200. He had apparently gotten it in with {a-}{k-} versus pocket kings and flopped a straight, then in the latest of his double-ups, he got it in with {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} versus {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} after making a two pair and rivering a full house. "The Chainsaw" is out in full force.

Meanwhile two giant names in the poker world have taken their seats. Jason Mercier and JC Tran have seven WSOP Bracelets between them and both are recognized as two of the toughest tournament players on the planet. Keep an eye out for them throughout the day.

Phil Hellmuth (as seen in previous 2017 event)
Phil Hellmuth (as seen in previous 2017 event)

You might think that we are about to write about multiple players joining in, with a combined 14 WSOP bracelets, but you would be wrong. I am speaking of the one and only Phil Hellmuth. The winningest no-limit hold'em player in WSOP history is here to battle it out and try to add bracelet number 15 to his collection.

We are one level away from the dinner break and, when Level 7 starts, late registration will be over. With roughly 1,680 entrants thus far and approximately 815 players remaining, the action is really starting to pick up. The dinner break will be for 90 minutes which means anyone looking to get in has less than two and a half hours to late register.

A New Sheriff in Town

Dave Shober
Dave Shober

Though it's not always easy to tell in a room with over 1,000 players still looming, it would appear at the moment that the new chip leader is Dave Shober.

As we approached the table, Shober's stack already stood out among his tablemates but he was active in a hand as well.

There looked to be about 10,000 already in the pot of a {7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} board and Shober had bet 5,750 on the river. His opponent had a decision and eventually made the call. Shober tabled {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a set of tens and his opponent nodded in submission, mucking his cards.

Hellmuth is On a Roller Coaster Ride

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth just had quite an orbit.

First, Hellmuth was all in with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} versus Scott Zhakim's {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}. The board had already been killed, and the two got it in preflop for roughly 23,000 apiece. Zhakim got a full double-up, and Hellmuth was left with 650 chips.

Hellmuth folded the following hand, then was all-in for 500 in the big blind when this hand occurred: A player in middle position raised to 1,400. The small blind called, and Hellmuth was in for the main pot, while the other two players had built an 1,800-chip side pot. The flop was {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, and the small blind check-folded after the original raiser bet 1,700.

Hellmuth tabled {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, and his opponent showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The board spiked the gutshot for Hellmuth on the turn when the {7-Clubs} hit, and the river bricked off a {6-Diamonds}. Hellmuth was still alive.

Hellmuth folded his small blind the following hand.

In the next hand, the player under the gun raised to 1,400. Hellmuth moved all in on the button for 1,725 and was called by Zhakim in the small blind and Matt Milsna in the big blind. The original raiser also called.

The flop was {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and Zhakim checked. Milsna moved all in for 12,375, and the under-the-gun player went all in covering him. Zhakim folded, and the hands were tabled.

Hellmuth {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Milsna {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Under the gun {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The {q-Hearts} hit the turn, and the {a-Diamonds} landed on the river, giving Hellmuth the nut flush, Milsna the king-high flush, and two pair for the player under the gun.

Hellmuth won the blinds and antes on the next hand and was close to 10,000 in chips again.

"I Don't Want to Limp Into the Money"

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips

With about 11,000 in the pot and the board reading {j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} {5-Spades}, action was on Michael Wasserman, and he checked. Dennis Phillips was on the button and bet 4,000. Wasserman didn't waste any time moving all in, sending Phillips into the tank.

After analyzing things for a few minutes, Phillips figured, "I'm ahead at least 25 percent of the time if you have the flush draw," and then thought a bit more and added, "I don't want to limp into the money." He called, with Wasserman covering his all in of roughly 30,000.

Wasserman tabled {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, and Phillips showed {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, exclaiming, "I'm way ahead, yes!" He gave a little fist pump just before the river brought the {8-Clubs}, giving both players the straight and chopping the pot.

Leah Heroes River

Mike Leah
Mike Leah

With roughly 25,000 in the pot and the board reading {5-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} {j-Hearts} {a-Diamonds} Mike Leah was in the tank after his opponent put him all in on the river for an effective stack of 18,300. After about five minutes Leah made his decision and called.

His opponent tabled {4-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a pair of fours and Leah showed {a-Spades}{3-Hearts} for top pair with no kicker! Leah was visibly relieved that his read was right and wasn't even sure how long he had tanked for.
