When Big Stacks Collide

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Four players were eliminated quickly after coming back from the break, and the field was reduced to the last 145 players. Meanwhile, Georgios Zisimopoulos and Kiryl Radzivonau got into a substantial pot.

On the {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} turn, Zisimopoulos check-called a bet worth 4,500 by Radzivonau and checked again the {7-Spades} on the river. Radzivonau bet 16,000, and Zisimopoulos called, then mucked {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds} after Radzivonau flipped over {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} for a better two pair.

Mizrachi Doubles

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Down to just 7,700, Michael Mizrachi faced an open-raise to 1,800 and moved all in from two seats over. The initial raiser asked to pull in his raise and eventually called the 5,900 more with {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. Mizrachi showed {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and virtually locked up the double on the {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} turn. His opponent was drawing to a chop only if another ace or nine showed on the river; instead, it was the {2-Clubs} that changed nothing.

Levi No More

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

David Levi was among the big stacks not long ago, but suddenly that has vanished, and Levi was sent to a short stack. He then three-bet shoved out of the big blind, and initial raiser Terry Grimes called on the button with {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Levi had ace-queen and saw the board run out {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{K-Spades} to give Grimes the better hand on the river.

The Money Bubble Is Looming

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

There are just 133 players, or rather, teams left in contention, and the tournament staff has instructed the dealers to announce when they lose a player. Only the top 127 spots will get paid.

Among those to bump up their stacks were Natalie Bromley and Jamie Kerstetter, A.K.A. Team Crouton. Ricardo Alvarado got through with a three-bet shove as Georgios Zisimopoulos open-folded {A-Spades}{6-Spades}, and Randy Gonzales remains with an average stack on Kerstetter's table.

Michael Lech just three-bet all in for around 18,000, and the small blind re-shoved to get a third player out of the way. Lech showed {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, and his opponent turned over {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. The board came {10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, and they chopped it up.

Jesse Sylvia Loses Huge Chunk to Deepinder Singh in Massive Cooler

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jesse Sylvia
Jesse Sylvia

Jesse Sylvia was sitting on a very promising stack until a few moments ago when the following hand occurred.

There were four players in the pot for 2,000 apiece, with Jesse Sylvia in the latest position. The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}, and the first two players checked. Deepinder Singh, directly to Sylvia's right, bet 6,200. Sylvia was the only player to call.

Then, the {K-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, and the action continued. Singh cut out a bet of 12,000 and slid it forward. Sylvia asked his opponent to lift his left arm up so that he could see how much he had left behind. It was around 30,000. Sylvia took nearly three minutes to determine a plan.

The dealer considered it was time to call the floor person, and the new clock-calling rule was applied. Sylvia received 30 seconds and would have an additional 10-second vocal countdown should he need it. He called before reaching that point.

The river was a meaningless {3-Hearts} at first sight. Now it was Singh who didn't hurry. However, he announced an all in after about 90 seconds or so. This prompted a usual request from Sylvia: "Can I get the count?" It was 30,200 to call. Sylvia had more than that, but it was certainly a tough decision for the former November Niner. However, Sylvia moved a pile of his chips towards the middle, and Singh turned over {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} for a flopped set.

Sylvia showed {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} for top two and a missed flush draw. He's down to 7,100, while Singh's stack soared up to 115,000.

John Hulett, the captain of Singh's two-men team, must be happy about his sidekick's performance.

Down to 129 Players

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Hank Sitton
Hank Sitton

The big blind defended and check-shoved a flop of {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Hank Sitton, the initial raiser in the cutoff, called with {A-Spades}{4-Spades} for top two pair and faced the {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs} of his opponent for almost even stacks. The {3-Hearts} turn and {7-Hearts} river were both blanks, and the stacks were counted. Sitton had 14,200, and his opponent was covered by 1,000 to hit the rail.

At the same time, a short stack shoved for 4,600 in the cutoff, and Brian Pinkus called on the button. Barry Shulman reluctantly folded in the small blind and saw the player at risk turn over {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}. Pinkus was ahead with {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and flopped a set on the {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop. It was all over for the short stack on the {3-Spades} turn, making the {K-Spades} river a formality, and the field was reduced to just 129 hopefuls.

Klatt Can't Dodge an Ace on the River but Still Doubles

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

An ace on the river is usually a classic killer to win a coin flip, or spike a three-outer, or what have you.

An ace also hit the river when Andreas Klatt was all in with {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} against {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for his last 7,900. It confused half of the table, as the players (and the dealer) thought that that was it for the German and his team. Klatt stayed calm, however, because he knew better.

The board ran {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{A-Hearts}, and Klatt indicated he made flush by moving the Jack of Hearts closer to the community cards. What actually happened was soon clear to everyone, and Klatt could fully enjoy his double.

A Miracle for Duthie

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

John Duthie shoved the button for his last 8,300 and Jamie Kerstetter quickly called in the big blind.

John Duthie: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Jamie Kerstetter: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

The {J-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop was a disaster for Duthie, as he needed running aces or queens to avoid an elimination just shy of the money. Sure enough, the {A-Spades} turn and {A-Hearts} river completed the board and Duthie completed in spectacular fashion.
