Fagg Leads the Final Nine in Event #81: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold'em

Peyton Ethridge

Day 3 of Event #81: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold'em begins at 1 p.m. local time Friday, July 14, at the 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The remaining nine players have already made the final table and will be looking to secure the top prize of $401,250 and a coveted WSOP gold bracelet.

Leading the field to start the day is John Fagg, bagging an impressive 91,000,000. Fagg’s previous career-best cash of $156,041 comes from a circuit event win in 2022 where he successfully navigated through another massive field of over 2,000 entrants. A top three finish will be required for Fagg to top his previous career-best score.

Hot on his heels is Peyton Ethridge who managed to bag 70,000,000 to start the day, worth 35 big blinds. Ethridge, who is entering his first WSOP final table, has already surpassed his previous career best score of $8,069 from earlier this year when he cashed in Event #53: $1,500 Millionaire Maker, but his sights will undoubtedly be set on the top prize in this event.

Rounding out the top three is South Korean player Min Sung Lee, who bagged 59,000,000 chips at the end of Day 2. Lee shot up the chip counts late in the day and he secured the last elimination of the day when he sent Shane Rose to the rail with king-queen in a preflop confrontation.

Action folded around to Lucas Tae who moved all in for his last 21,600,000 from the button. Logan Moon folded in the small blind and Denny Lee said "Let's go buddy" before sticking in the call from the big blind to put Tae at risk.

Lucas Tae: J10
Denny Lee: AQ

Both players caught a piece of the QJ4 flop. Lee caught the better of it with top pair and held on the 7 turn and A river to send Tae to the rail and take the chip lead.

Min Sung Lee

Min Sung Lee went all in and was called by Joseph Roh, the chip leader.

Min Sung Lee: A9
Joseph Roh: 22

The flop scrolled across 925, a real tease for Lee as he had top pair but Roh was already up out of his seat and clapping his hands as he made a set of deuces.

The turn dashed Lee's hopes with the K and the 9 on the river was just a further needle when Roh made a full house.

William Fisher went all in for 41,200,000 and was isolated by Joseph Roh, who has been on quite the heater.

William Fisher: AJ
Joseph Roh: KK

The flop diminished Fisher's outs when it fanned out 2108, as Roh picked up a flush draw with his pair of kings. The turn bricked the 5 and the Q was of no help to Fisher on the river.

Peyton Ethridge: 55

Roh is Fearless; Fagg With No Traction

Joseph Roh
Joseph Roh

Joseph Roh raised to 16,500,000 and Denny Lee made the call. The wheel spun and the dealer presented the 8106. Both players checked and when the 8 fell, Roh went all in for quite a bit more than the pot. Lee shook his head and folded.

John Fagg has gotten one all in shove through in the past level but outside of that it seems he's been unable to find an opportunity to double, as he's been grinding a short stack for the majoirty of the day.

Aces Cracked as Fagg Finds a Double

John Fagg
John Fagg

Denny Lee moved all in from the small blind with a covering stack and John Fagg called off for his last 34,000,000 to put himself at risk.

John Fagg: K10
Denny Lee: AA

Fagg was well behind Lee's aces but picked up some flush outs on the 85A flop while Lee flopped a set. The flush came in on the 4 turn and Lee failed to improve to a full house or quads on the 10 river, resulting in Fagg receiving a much-needed double up.
