Winner to Be Crowned in Event #71: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller

Jesse Lonis
Jesse Lonis

The Main Event is almost here as the 2023 World Series of Poker is gearing up for the flagship tournament of the summer at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. However, several other events will award the coveted gold bracelet in the coming days and weeks, one of which will find a new owner today in Event #71: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller.

An incredible field of 200 entries - more than the two inaugural editions of the high-stakes contest combined - has been whittled down to the last 11 contenders within 24 levels of 40 minutes each. All of the finalists are aiming to claim as big a portion as possible of the huge $9,550,000 prize pool when the action resumes at 1 p.m. local time on the feature tables of the Horseshoe Event Center.

Four WSOP champions are in contention to increase their tally and Tyler Smith leads the way with 14,000,000. Fellow bracelet winners Isaac Haxton (2,500,000) and Ian Matakis (2,150,000) can be found at the bottom of the leaderboard but they are just one double-up away from reaching the middle of the pack.

Jesse Lonis is second on the leaderboard with a stack of 8,650,000 and already has a tenth and ninth place finish in Freezeout Events on his resume for the 2023 WSOP. Lonis has an online bracelet from the US domestic series in 2022 to his name and will aim to increase that tally today. Elias Harala follows in third place with 6,575,000 with Danny Hannawa (6,125,000) and Kabeelan Rajamurthy (5,400,000) hot on his heels.

The PLO specialists James Park, Adam Hendrix and Jonas Kronwitter also have chips at their disposal when the action resumes in level 25, which features blinds of 125,000-250,000 and a big blind ante of 250,000.

The high stakes event continues with a level duration of 40 minutes throughout and a 30-second shot clock format. Once the field combines to a single table, all contestants will receive an additional eight time bank extensions for the grand finale.

So far, everyone has locked up at least $157,963 for the efforts but the top three finishers will walk away with a seven-figure score for their poker resume. The winner can look forward to the gargantuan $2,303,017 top prize and the WSOP gold bracelet.

Stay tuned for the conclusion right here on PokerNews, as the most expensive four-card event of the summer will be crowning a winner today.
