Wilson Leads Final 31 After Day 2 in Tournament of Champions; Somerville Still in the Mix

Day 2 of Event #4: Tournament of Champions is in the books at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, with only 31 players remaining of the 747 total entries. After a 12-hour day, it was America's Scott Wilson bagging an impressive chip lead with a total of 2,885,000 in chips.

After being chip leader multiple times throughout the day, it was Brent Gregory who bagged the second-largest stack with a total of 2,000,040. Dakota Britton is trailing in third with 1,400,000.

Vincent Moscati (1,120,000) and Katelin Koper (990,000) round out the top five on the leaderboard. Moscati almost busted during Level 14 when he found himself all-in with pocket tens against the superior jacks in the hand of Sergio Benso. However, a ten on the flop gifted Moscati a set, which held to keep his WSOP bracelet dreams alive.

Of the chasing pack, only Jason Somerville has won a WSOP bracelet before. Somerville triumphed in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event back in 2011. Some may say that bracelet number two is long overdue; Somerville will likely agree with those sentiments. The popular streamer returns to the action in this event with a 405,000 stack, placing him 24th at the restart.

The returning players have each locked in at least $5,400 for their efforts, with the next pay jump happening when 26 players remain. Reaching the final table increases their take-home pay to $16,000, with the eventual champion clinching a $200,000 prize plus the all-important gold bracelet.

Day 3 begins at 12:00 p.m. on June 2, with play resuming at Level 21, where the blinds are 10,000/20,000 plus a 20,000 big blind ante. Play will continue until a champion is crowned. Who will that champion be? Stay tuned to PokerNews to find out!

No Slowing Down for Somerville

Jason Somerville raised to 22,000 under the gun and Christopher Lawrence called next to act.

The dealer fanned a flop of K♥Q♠7♥ and Somerville continued for 25,000. Lawrence tossed in a call.

The 6♠ landed on the turn and Somerville continued with aggression, stacking up a bet of 75,000. Lawrence took a few moments and made the call.

The Q♥ river paired the board and brought in the flush but that didn't slow Somerville down as after about five seconds he announced all-in for roughly 189,000. Lawrence, who had him covered, went into the tank for about 30 seconds before letting it go.

Lin Shows She is not Afraid to Bubble

With about 120,000 in the middle, the flop read 3♥3♦2♣. Dakota Britton tossed out a bet of 55,000, forcing Zachary Zaret to quickly fold and the action was now on Jennifer Lin.

Lin looked at the clock as she seemingly had a decision and eventually pushed her entire stack of roughly 150,000 across the line. Britton instantly tossed his cards into the muck as the dealer shipped the pot to Lin on the bubble.

Moscati Spikes a Ten to Stay Alive

Vincent Moscati limped in the cutoff before Sergio Benso raised to 24,000 on the button. The blinds quickly folded and the action was back on Moscati who announced all-in. Benso went into the tank and for a count after about a minute. The dealer let him know it was 117,000 and he pushed a stack of 5,000 chips across the line to make the call.

Moscati looked to be in disgust as the hands were revealed, however, the 10♦7♠2♠ flop changed his mood, giving him top set. He was able to fade the two outs of his opponent as the board completed with the 4♦ on the turn and the 2♣ on the river.

Petit Smashes Flush for the Double

Welcome to Day 2 of the Tournament of Champions at the 2023 World Series of Poker

Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions $1,000,000 Freeroll will begin at 12 p.m. local time with 224 returning players. The initial Day 1 field of 727 entries is expected to grow as late registration will stay open until the start of Day 2.

Roger Franco in the chip leader and Brandon Hamlet is second. Richard Fowlkes and Dakota Britton round out the top four, with bracelet winner Julien Perouse also making an appearance in the top ten.

The tournament grew in size over last year’s field of 575 entries to a total, so far, of 727. Entry to the unique tournament is restricted to bracelet winners and those that won rings on the WSOP Circuit (both live and online).

Players will return to The Horseshoe Event Center Gold section at Level 11, with blinds of 1,000/2,000 and a 2,000 big blind ante. The schedule for Day 2 includes ten levels of play with a 60-minute dinner break after Level 16.
