Double Elimination for Taylor

Nível 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Esther Taylor
Esther Taylor

Calvin Anderson raised in early position before Jonathan Hutson three-bet to 17,500. Esther Taylor was in the big blind and called as did Anderson.

As soon as the flop came KJ8, Taylor pushed her entire stack of 44,500 across the line. Anderson called off his remaining 38,000 and Hutson called for 44,000.

Calvin Anderson: AK54
Esther Taylor: KJ109
Jonathan Hutson: A1097

All three players connected with the board as Hutson flopped a wrap, Anderson flopped top pair nut flush draw and Taylor flopped two pair, open-ended and a smaller flush draw.

The 5 turn and 2 river were bricks as Taylor's two pair held to scoop the pot and eliminate both opponents.

Altomonte Eliminated as Caldas Gambles to Triple

Nível 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Joseph Altomonte
Joseph Altomonte

The under-the-gun player raised to 2,600 before the player next to act dropped a stack of 5,000 chips across the line for a raise to 9,600. Joseph Altomonte was on the button and moved in for his 18,000 before Carlos Caldas announced "gamble city," and called off his 10,800.

The original raiser folded and the three-bettor instantly called.

Carlos Caldas: QJ104
Joseph Altomonte: KKJ8
Third Player: AAK8

The board ran out Q6348, for Caldas to make two pair and triple up, while the 2023 $600 Pot-Limit Omaha champion Altomonte was eliminated.

Kamikaze Triple Up

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

There was a raise from Farhad Jamas in early position that Allen Kessler just called on the button. Sean "Death Mission" Shah then squeezed all-in with his short stack and both Jamas and Kessler got it in as well. Jamas was the covering player and Kessler only had a smidge more than Shah, who was at risk.

At this point Kessler waved PokerNews over, preemptively bemoaning an upcoming bad beat. "This death wish guy is just trying to dust it off!"

Cards were on their backs.

Sean Shah: A7109
Allen Kessler: KKJ6
Farhad Jamas: KK43

The board ran out, 1073 and this only fueled Kessler's tirade as he said, "Of course he gets there, I knew you were trying to give it away." To this Shah responded, "It's a $1k, Allen, what do you want from me?! I didn't say it was good."

The turn was the 5 and gave Kessler a worse flush draw than Shah. The river bricked a J and Allen continued, "I had a perfect read on him, that's why I just called the button because I knew this guy couldn't control himself!"

"No, I can't control myself...", said Shah as he stacked the pot.

Kessler remained agitated as he was left with only two big blinds. The rest of the table was rather amused by the situation and continued on jovially.

Taylor's Pair Holds

Nível 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Thomas Taylor
Thomas Taylor

Four players saw a flop of 853 and one player checked before there was a pot-sized bet of 5,700. Thomas Taylor dropped five red chips across the line for a raise to 22,800 and it quickly folded back to the original bettor who struggled his shoulders as he called off his stack of 22,000.

All-In Player: A542
Thomas Taylor: K864

Taylor had flopped a pair and an open-ended straight draw and was able to dodge his opponent's wrap straight draw as the board completed with the Q turn and 10 river.

Brown Chips Up Big; Negreanu Joins The Field

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Tyler Brown
Tyler Brown

A raise to 1,200 in late position was called by the small blind and Tyler Brown in the big blind. The flop spread, 824, the small blind checked and Brown bet 2,200. The preflop raiser then raised it to 6,000, the small blind folded, and Brown announced a pot sized raise to 22,100.

The late position player then went all in and Brown got the rest of the chips in.

Tyler Brown: 3558
Late Positon: 4586

Both players had plenty of the board they were interacting with but the 6x on the turn gave Brown a straight and the J on the river proved to be a brick.

During the hand, Daniel Negreanu showed up to the table directly to Brown's left, having just registered. Negreanu was high energy and quickly questioned Brown if he was who he thought he was. The newly shaved head of Brown left Negreanu unsure if it was the Mystery Bounty champion. Mysterious, indeed.

Soon enough, Negreanu was camera in hand, interviewing Brown officially for his daily YouTube Vlog.

Josephy Drives The Action

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Cliff Josephy
Cliff Josephy

Cliff Josephy raised to 1,200 under the gun, was called by a player in late position, the button and the big blind. The flop spread, A44 and all players checked.

The turn brought the 2 and this time Josephy bet 5,300 and all three opponents folded in succession. Josephy flashed the table AxKxQxXx but the dealer wasted no time scooping it up and moving onto the next hand.

Alex Livingston was just felted on one of the outer tables but expressed he'd be hopping right back in. Ari Engel was seen waiting in line to enter the with a fresh stack.

Four players put in 1,800 each to see the Q104 flop and the action checked around to the cutoff who tossed in two pink chips for a pot-sized bet and Maurice Hawkins shoved his 8,000 across the line. Leonid Yanovski was in the blind and quickly got out of the way as did the hijack.

Notables Seeking First Bracelet

Nível 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Fernando Habegger
Fernando Habegger

Fernando "Jnandez" Habegger, started off the series with a bang, getting runner-up in the $5,000 NLH/PLO mix for $330,344. PokerNews got the opportunity to chat with Habegger earlier this week. Habegger mentioned that his intention will be to play as many of the PLO events he can, but will not be playing more NLH events as it's not his game of choice.

Chino Rheem, who final tabled this event in 2021, is seated directly to Habegger's right. Rheem has two runner ups in bracelet events, but the hardware has eluded him.

Michael Holmes, who is also fresh off a second place finish in the $600 PLO Deepstack was also seen in the field. According to a friend of his, he was never much interested in playing WSOP events but the tenacity of a fellow Omaha player convinced him it was worth taking a shot. It worked out well for him, considering he turned his one bullet of $600 into $134,171.

Jefferson Guerrero spoke with PokerNews just before returning to heads up play in the $600 NLH Deepstack and said his game is more Omaha and he was looking forward to playing as many PLO events as he can. Ultimately, Guerrero fell in second place in the Deepstack for $216,941. He assured PokerNews that we'll be seeing a lot of him this summer.

Andrew Neeme, one of YouTube's earliest poker vloggers, was also seen in the field. Neeme has spent more time the last couple years studying PLO.

Early Notables in the Field

Nível 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh

Josh Arieh was seen taking his seat right on time. Arieh won player of the year in 2021 and has said that despite his lack of study in the game, he's felt he's had a knack at the Omaha variants for quite some time. In 2021 he won both the $1,500 PLO as well as the $10,000 PLO8 Championship.

Tyler Brown, recent winner of the $1,000 Mystery Bounty, was seen here sporting a new look. Before winning that event for a whopping $1,000,000, he was fresh off the final table of the $5,000 NLH/PLO Mix. Upon further inspection, it appeared that Brown's specialty may be in the Omaha variants. Brown logged three cashes in the PGT Omaha Series, including a runner up for $146,000.

Dylan Weisman was also seen in the field. Weisman is a dedicated PLO coach and won this very event in 2021 for $166,461. His most recent Omaha win was in the $25,000 PLO Championship at the PGT PLO series for a whopping, $416,500.
