Seiver, Le In Top Ten Entering Day 2 of $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship

Scott Siever
Scott Siever

The largest Pot-Limit Omaha Championship event in World Series of Poker history continues Sunday with an already record-setting field set to grow even more before registration ends at the start of play.

Event #69: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship (8-handed) has already seen 641 players take their shot at WSOP PLO glory, with 264 of them returning for Day 2, led by amongst others, WSOP Player of the Year contender Scott Seiver (425,000) and defending champion Tommy Le (400,000) who start the day among the biggest stacks in the room.

With registration open until cards are in the air at 2 p.m. PDT in the Paris Ballroom, several other notables could potentially enter the field with 24 big blinds, such as Phil Hellmuth, who was denied bracelet number 17 heads-up Saturday in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout.

Others we might see hop in at the last minute could be PLO guru Phil Galfond, and three and four-time bracelet winners respectively, Nick Schulman and Ben Yu, who are known to be fond of late-registering events.

Ten more levels of play are scheduled, with a dinner break after level 16 at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time.

While last year’s Day 2 field went deep into the money and was whittled down to just 18 players by the end of play, expect that number to be notably higher with nearly double the field size this year as last year’s 344 entries, though the money will likely be reached midway to late in the day.

PokerNews will have all the action and details of the massive prize pool once announced, so keep it right here for your information as arguably the most prestigious Pot-Limit Omaha tournament in the world continues its march toward a champion here at the 53rd World Series of Poker in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.

Mizrachi and Hui Among Early Casualties

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Jake Schwartz took on Michael Mizrachi in a preflop contest with the latter turning over the {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. He was up against the {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Clubs} of Schwartz and made two pair on the {k-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts} turn only for the {q-Clubs} river to improve Schwartz to a straight.

Soheb Porbandarwala then knocked out Naor Slobodskoy when he turned a flush to crack the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts} of Slobodskoy on a {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts} board.

Shortly after, the table lost a third player in quick succession with the elimination of Phillip Hui.

The cards were already on their backs with the board showing {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Spades} and Isaac Baron had an all-in paid off for 49,500. His {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} made the nut flush and Dimitrii Perfilev only represented the second nut flush with the {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

"Good start," Baron said with a smile on the face after he turned his Day 2 entry into more than three times the starting stack so far.

Anson Tsang four-bet and was called by Scott Baumstein as they headed to the {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop. The two-time WSOP bracelet winner from Hong Kong double-checked his stack for a few seconds and then jammed for 80,000 with Baumstein quickly calling.

Anson Tsang: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Scott Baumstein: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The {4-Diamonds} turn and the {3-Hearts} river brought no help for Tsang and he quickly headed out of the tournament area.

Calvo Shuts Down Shak

Nível 14 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Dan Shak
Dan Shak

On a five-way turn with the board reading {j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and a little over 60,000 in the pot, Dan Shak fired a bet of 55,000 from the cutoff.

Luis Calvo came over top with an all-in check-raise from the small blind. The rest of the table folded back to Shak who called for about 50,000 more to put his tournament life at risk.

Dan Shak: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}
Luis Calvo: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

Calvo's set of sevens was ahead, but Shak had a pair of flush draws to work with.

The {k-Clubs} on the river brought neither of Shak's draws in and he was sent to the rail.

Salazar Approaches A Million in Chips

Nível 14 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Aden Salazar
Aden Salazar

On the tail end of a larger pot to the {a-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts} river with around 150,000 in the middle, Aden Salazar bet 135,000 on the button. The action had checked to him by Christoph Csik, who eventually opted to call all-in.

Salazar rolled over the {k-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for the nuts and Csik briefly showed his cards before tossing them into the muck and heading out of the tournament area.

It appears that Salazar is near the top of the leaderboard and just a few further small pots away from reaching a seven-figure stack.

Sadou Ends Teliani's Day in Huge Pot

Nível 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Nohad Teliani
Nohad Teliani

After Nohad Teliani raised to 15,000 in the hijack, she was three-bet to 60,000 by Firas Sadou in the cutoff.

Teliani called to see a flop of {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{a-Spades} and the fireworks began.

Teliani led out for 80,000 and after a brief pause, Sadou moved all in for approximately 120,000 more. Teliani snap-called and a huge pot, as well as Teliani's tournament life was at stake.

Nohad Teliani: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}
Firas Sadou: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Sadou had top set of aces, but Teliani had a world of outs with straight and flush draws.

The turn brought Teliani one of those outs with the {8-Diamonds} to give her the straight, but the board-pairing {8-Clubs} on the river crushed Teliani's hopes, and after approaching 500,000 chips not long ago, her day is now done.

Yuval Bronshtein

On the {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} turn, Yuval Bronshtein got his shorter stack in against Aden Salazar and the following cards were revealed.

Yuval Bronshtein: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Aden Salazar: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

Bronshtein was ahead with two pair but needed to several cards including hearts and aces. Unfortunately, he was unable to do so when the {a-Clubs} struck on the river as Salazar improved to superior two pair.

"I am coming for those now," Salazar joked towards Jeff Madsen and pointed towards his green T-25,000 chips.
